Tiny Freak Goes Ninja

nice work all around!

good job on that pull
I think you have 2 plates easily.

great job

PP & KMC and all youse guys, I really, really appreciate the support. When I feel like mailing it in, I can always summon up the mental image of one of you to keep me on the right path.

Today was a lovely, sunny spring day. Perfect for an outdoor TRX workout. Topped off with a 3 min plank.

After hearing about Maschy’s knee, I was thankful for the opportunity to have an average, run-of-the-mill training. “Someday I will not be able to do this, TODAY is not that day.”

Yes.

I’m going to have to remember the leg hug thing for the side stitch and I hear you on the off day thing. Even so, you are lifting a lot of weight for someone your size.

Spider, thanks for the flower. Keep on, keepin’ on!

ironcross, thanks for stopping by with a kind word.

Run day today and ANOTHER DAMNED SIDE STITCH! I was initially SO disappointed to be cheated out of a pleasant run by this problem two times in a row. This time I remembered Cal’s stitch fix. Although it helped some, it wasn’t a total cure. After a couple of false starts, I did run through it and once again the pain eased up over time (never to zero, but tolerable). 2 min strides/2 min walk x 5, plus a couple more 2 min. runs while I was moaning about the side stitch. Went a total of 5k again.

The good news was that the knee was fine. I’ll try 2 min strides/1 min walk x 7 or 8 next time. Moving slowly towards all run/no walk.

Just popping in to check out the Freak Show.

As always, great work ethic and highly pleasing to the eye.

I hear you on the weather. Puts a smile in my brain that reaches my hips

Kimba: Btw the knee and the sideaches, a lesser person would conclude that the universe was trying to keep them from running. I love how you persevere. I suspect the up tick in side aches is because of the extreme tempo variation you’re doing. Keep after it. Eventually your body is going to get on board with the running. I know it!

Yup, Nadia’s right - the stitches will disappear as you progress. And just keep rolling your ITBs. It feels sucky but it keeps the knees in good shape.

Git, always a pleasure to see that tasty avi pop up in this log.

Frenchie, I hope this weekend weather is hitting you right. Broiling down here, and I’m lovin’ it.

Nadia & Cal, despite all evidence to the contrary I still firmly believe that my body is really going to be OK with the running. I’m still stretching, and rehabbing and foam rolling to beat the band. Thanks so much for your encouragement!

Friday night training felt good.

BW= 111 lb.

Sumo deadlifts
From floor:

belt on:
175# 1 x 1
185# 1 x 1 <–felt heavy, decided to move on to rack pulls

That last one went up a bit hard.

57# 1 x 5 <–money set, rep PR +1

Today’s training so far was a good run that I guess was fasted cardio since I ran right after getting up and before breakfast. 2 min strides/1 min walk x 8. I read something yesterday about how poor posture while running could cause side stitches. Knowing that I tend to slump my shoulders, I kept special attention on pulling my shoulder blades together and standing up tall. I felt a stretch in my right side muscles (the ones that cramp) when I did this. And although the side wasn’t 100%, it was entirely ignorable and didn’t impact my enjoyment of the run.

So it was either the posture change or the no food. I’ll eat something before my next run to experiment. I hope it wasn’t the empty stomach because I do better with some fuel in me.

Now off for the bike ride portion of the day!

Nice! i especially like the look in the camera in the end.

You are definitely bad-ass Kimba !!

nice PRs and hardly any back rounding on those deads. Good work Kimba!

Very nice deadlifting and rack-pulls, Kimba!

UpScale, Frenchie, spider, thanks for the kind words.

After this morning’s run, got on the bike and rode about three hours. With a stop for chicken and waffles. Deee-licious.

Whoa, 2 PRs. Awesome Kim and I’m glad that you may have found the reason why you have that pain in the side.
I do know the dangers of running slumped over though. Which is why I tell runners that running and lifting weights can go hand in band because a stronger upper body can save you when running.

How did I KNOW that you were going to have some amazing breakfast. I’m still waiting to try the chicken and waffles where I work because I hear that they’re very good. The other ‘famous’ chicken and waffle place is in Cali so I hope that I won’t have to travel abroad for food lol

Your deltoids are sick, lady.
Good going on the PRs.

I do hope you go sleeveless all summer. Seriously, are you accosted all the time by women asking you what you to do to get those arms?

Just wanted to drop in and say ‘Wut up?!’ Lookin good as usual Kimba.

Second reason I am here & more importantly (lol) is to tell you to pick up the latest Haynes vinyl. It is the perfect sound for summer, cool drinks, & water. I think you’ll like it very much, if you haven’t heard anything off of it yet?

Look at you and all the PR’s, rack pulls are treating you right.

Its so sunny now that its just about time to go shirtless for the summer.

Nikki, the chicken and waffles was actually a late lunch. But HIGHLY delicious at the hole-in-the-wall soul food place we rode to.

Cal, I love my delts…thanks for the kind words.

Nadia, no one accosts me (I don’t live in the friendliest of places) and yes I enjoy the sleeveless whenever I can.

print, thanks for the music rec…I’m off to find it.

Joe, are you suggesting that I should go shirtless or is that what you are up to?

Sunday morning training was a workmanlike average day.

Box squats with band around the knees (3 risers/step)
Bar 1 x 10
50# 1 x 5
55# 1 x 5

I did OK with keeping my knees out with just the bar, so decided to add a little tiny bit of weight.

Squats (to 3 risers/step for a depth check)
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 3
95# 1 x 2 <–felt heavy and knee cave started so I stopped here

Bench Press (5s week)
Bar 1 x 5
64# 1 x 5
73.5# 1 x 5
83# 1 x 5 <–butt off bench on last 2 reps

First time at 83#, but I did 5 reps at 82 lbs. last month, so I’m calling this a PR. I think the BBB is really helping me.

BBB 66# 5 x 10

These were hard, but I managed to get all the reps in even though I thought for a nanosecond about giving up.

Cable hip ad/abductions
7.5# 3 x 12

I don’t log my rehab, but I’m continuing with monster walks, clams, foam rolling etc. I think I’m making a bit of progress with my hip strength.
