Tiny Freak Goes Ninja

Meant to post the video of the banded box squats @ 55 lbs. for general critique and merriment.

I think those look very good! But, then again squat form is not at all my specialty. Nice short shorts!

You or me, either way works. Okay well you works better for me.

those looked really good!

Glad to hear you think you are making progress with the rehab!!

Great work…and AWESOME shoulders. I want.

Knees look good but you’re still losing your lumbar curve at the bottom.

Thou hast made me merry with those, looks good, depth and form with both butt and knees pushing out look very good, I agree with above point with lumbar and I think part of it is the bar looks a little loose on the shoulders, like maybe you are concentating so hard on the lower body you are letting the tightness up top slack. If you sure that up, I’m guessing your lower back will hold better.

*edit: after looking again you can see your left elbow shifting as the set goes on, find a tight spot, but one that you can hold consistantly for however long a set you do.

Nadia, those shorts are the same ones as in the picture at the beginning of this log. Just reversed to all black, and yup they ride up.

Joe, your answer isn’t shocking to me.

Thanks Frenchie and Betty! Betty, I want your tiny waist but I know that is not in the cards.

Cal, I saw that butt wink too.

lagaprop, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the suggestion and I know for a fact that I slack on upper back tightness. So much to think about!

Finally a run win to report. When last we saw our heroine, she was fighting side stitches and barely holding her own. Today I got up, ate a banana and drank a nice glass of water, and then waited for two hours. No tea, no more food. When I headed out for the run, I paid careful attention to posture and running tall with my chest out. This worked well. Not perfect, as I could still feel an ache in my right side, but nothing worse than a minor annoyance. Also, I concentrated on breathing out when striking with my left foot, and that also seemed to help.

2 min strides/1 min walk x 10, which is running for 20 whole minutes and the longest run I’ve been on in months. 2.86 miles, in 29:51 for a pace of 10:26/mile. I’m somewhat heartened by these numbers, as prior to my knee issues I was (at best) only running a 10:00/mile pace with no walking. Knee is OK (knocks on wood).

Hi Kimba, little food for thought from ‘The Glute Guy’ regarding the box squat.

Enjoy.

The band squats looked pretty good. Yeah there was a little butt wink but given your particular goals I’m not sure its an issue.

Glad you had a good run! You asked me about food and running in my log, and I forgot to respond. I think that running fasted for up to an hour is not a big deal because you should have enough glycogen stored. But, this is only true if you have a diet that is relatively high in carbs (like me). If you do not eat a lot of carbs, you may need to fuel up before you run. Either way, the more you run, the better your body will become at managing its fuel. This is good in the sense that you can run longer more easily. This is bad if you are trying to burn calories. Basically, a new runner’s engine/ body will run like a oversized SUV, an experienced runner will burn fuel like a hybrid. That’s my unscientific experiential take on it anyway.

Those squats look really smooth to me. And the little shorts are a WIN. Nice legs.

I was always a morning runner, usually on an empty stomach. I wasn’t concerned with keeping on muscle, just running for the love of it, and to help keep my weight where I wanted it to be. I will say that when I first started trying to gain muscle, I was still running but I added frozen mango before I ran, and that one change seemed to help.

way to rock the banded squats kimba! better than I ever could.

Finally caught up in your not so new log, whew, tighter band seems to be working for you, good!
Love the prehab, rehab routine and the idea that it should never go by the wayside…I need to remember that for my shoulders too.

those are some short shorts

and those where some good squats.
your elbows stayed tight nice work.

your lines are very long meaning even though you are quite petite
your limbs go on and on

Just popping in to say hi. Knees looked good on those band squats.

Your outfits are always so darn cute in those videos. I’m jealous of your shorts not riding up on squats. Mine would be a thong by the end of the set.

x2 on the knees

BUT

with as low as she’s going, and the way her knees are tracking forward, she’d have to lose the little bit of curve she is, unless she’d spent time in cirque de solei.

SIT BACK LIKE YOU WANT IT!!

Yes, I understand that. Were it me, I’d add another riser. But then I’ve had low back pain from squatting so I don’t take any chances.

skye and bear – the words for the week are SIT THE FUCK BACK! Thanks for youse guys’ help.

Joe and George, thanks for stopping by with encouragement.

Nadia and Puffy, I am Not Good with an empty stomach. I don’t know if “low blood sugar” is a real thing or not, but I need small, regular injections of food or else my mood and concentration go to hell.

lil power, I am finally ready to hear the truth: at forty-something there is no such thing as just doing the fun stuff without the stuff that is a real drag.

kmc, I love the way you put things…I don’t feel long in real life, but I’m happy to play long on TV.

BG, my shorts TOTALLY were riding up in that video, but they stop at a certain point (i.e. before it becomes scandalous) so I call it a win.

Cal, I’m gonna try to work the sitting back drill in skye’s video and see if that helps butt wink. I’d rather do that that give up on low.

Today’s training was easy volume squats in sets of 10 up to 90 lbs., some marginal bench press work and an unexceptional plank. Nothing I could write would make that very exciting, so I’ll stop there.

I’ve got at least 28 more years of training to go.
