Time to Get My.. UPDATED 06.09.09

I dont see your legs growin much at all in the near future eating like an anorexic 14yr old girl.

Im very shocked that you are able to even retain the muscle mass you have eating like that.

There are many great articles on here which will help to explain to you how to diet down properlly without starving yourself of the nutrients that you need on a day to day basis.
I do actually have quite a bit of knowledge regarding dieting, although you may not think that my current diet reflects that.
I’ve read all of Berardi’s stuff, Dan Duchaine, Lyle McDonald, Gary Taubes, Rob Faigin, John Ivy, Anthony Colpo, Barry Sears etc.
I did a “normal” diet, going from 225lbs to 190lbs.

Now, however, I’ve changed it up, and by God It’s working. My legs may not be big, but I’ve not lost any leg size after starting my 1200kcal/day diet. I did lose some leg size while I was on JB’s get shredded diet however.

After The Get Shredded diet, I used Dan Duchaine’s Body Opus for a few weeks. The carb-up days are really the hardest on Body Opus. Dan got pretty anal with that stuff. These days I just eat whatever I want on weekends.

A couple of back shots:

One more:

So if I;m not mistaken, you are willing to ramp up your cals all the way to 5000-6000 when you bulk up if needed, and ramp down as much as 1200 cals when you shred?

I see what youre doing here, and it has some sense to it, but 1200 is a little TOO low. You can stay oveer 1800 and get the same results imo (with reducing and timing carbs even more, increasing EFA supplementation, using supplements to improve your insulin sensitivity).

I agree that muscle loss during dieting is an overblown issue (since lost muscle returns very quickly when cals are raised if lifting is maintained) but your lifting intensity and mental health will be affected at such a low intake.

But good results either way.

My eating philosophy har changed a bit over the years, so I’ve tried a few approaches. At the moment I’m sticking to the 12 eggs /day thing. I’ll eat some chicken and veggies too.
Got my HOT-ROX and TRIBEX yesterday Just popped one HOT-ROX capsule, and I feel like I’m flying. Time to study for my exams  Let’s hope I don’t crash mentally when the effects wear off.

Just want to jump in here and say that what the OP is doing is obviously working.

Personally, I’d rather not believe that I’d have to go to a 1200kcal/day near-starvation diet to get that cut, so part of me wants to jump on the bandwagon and say “Eat more!”

But bodybuilding is, in part, about taking things to the limit and seeing what happens. The OP did that: he took his diet to the extreme and got extreme results.

He probably knows that feeling like he’s going to pass out all the time is a pretty good indicator that his diet is pretty tough on his body health-wise, and is therefore probably not sustainable. Even Stallone gains a few pounds when he’s between movies.

But then again, since when is bodybuilding synonomous with “health”?

Overall–congrats to the OP for achieving this level of conditioning. Get some good photos taken, spend some time preening at the beach, and then go eat a cheeseburger, willya?

Thanks.
Physically, I don’t feel too bad at the moment. Like I said, the body adapts.
I’ll eat a few cheeseburgers this summer. I promise

MODOK (a member here) is trying something similar with his diet.

Cool. Hope he gets great results.
Just wanted to say that yesterday was my first day on HOT-ROX, and the effects were very good. I didn’t crash when the effects wore off either. The hardest thing is remembering to eat.

Just saw your updated pics…

Nice work man; well done indeed.

Looking good. I personally don’t see the need for men to get their body fat down to extremely low levels unless they’re competing. I think men look better at a low to medium body fat level.

That being said I still feel you look terrific and gave you a 7. I would have rated you higher if your legs were thicker and as defined as your upper body.
Great work.

Thanks a lot! I’ll post new pics in a few weeks.

I’ll get my legs better and post more pics.
Thanks

Great upper body bro, the wheels arent nearly as bad as you said they would be. Your back kind of surprised me though… but all in all its good (in fact alot further along than I am) … Our bodies are ongoing projects, therefore we all know that it wont be done overnight…

Good job, I want mucscle bellies like yours… i need mass! oh well im just gonna keep shredding myself and doing what I have to do

The damn back is a weak point. True that. I’ll get serious again with my training this summer. Just need to get my exams over and done with first. One down, two to go.

Great job & way to work hard! Can’t wait to see your back match your arms.

whoami, you said you “pig out like an idiot on the weekends” (first post of thread)- what do you mean? It sounds like you are going really low during the week only…which makes your dieting plan more “sensible”. please elaborate.

Im pretty sure at this point that the influx of skinny-minnies and “I dont want to be huge” guys has become, ridiculous.

Your basically on a starvation diet. Stop.

Ok. I do want to be big. I know I’ll never be huge and ripped unless I do drugs, which I won’t do. I’m sure I can be 200lbs, ripped and natural, and I’m shooting for that. Not at the moment though. When september comes I’ll start gaining weight slowly.

I know I look like shit when I’m fat, so I refuse to be fat. For Gods sake, I’m not anorexic. I know that I need to be on a crazy low-kcal diet to get ripped, so that’s what I’m doing. If someone thinks I’m scrawny, that’s fine.

I have a goal of getting ripped, and I’m sure you can all relate to having a goal that’s frowned upon by the general public. My goal for the next three years is to look something like Vince Gironda, Frank Zane or Steeve Reeves. I have a totally different frame, so I know I won’t look otherworldly like Reeves or Zane, but that’s my idea of an ideal physique.
I realize that a 1000-1200kcal diet is very very low, but believe it or not, it’s working as far as losing fat goes. Who’d have thunk it? I’m not losing much muscle, and I think that the whole ‘losing muscle’ thing is grossly blown out of proportion. Alwyn Cosgrove has posted studies showing that people on an 800kcal diet did not lose lean mass.

So. I appreciate all the feedback. Just wanted to let you know what my goals are, and that I’m not mentally ill or anything. I’ve been on 6000kcal diets, and now I’m on a 1200kcal diet. As far as I’m concerned, they’re both crazy. It all depends on where you’re coming from.
Don’t worry about what some dumbass thinks about what you’re doing. His/her physique is probably shit compared to yours. There’s something about not seeing the person you’re fighting with that makes every pussy=boy out there act like a dick.

By posting this, I’m not saying I know alot, because I don’t. But I also don’t drop advice unless I know what I’m talking about. And I certainly don’t bash people in between jerking off to all of the half-naked guys on T-Nation.

Took this pic yesterday after working chest and back. 6’1", 180lbs.

To the guy who asked me about my weekend binges:
I usually eat whatever I want on weekends, both to keep my metabolism up and to keep my sanity. This includes pizza, McDonalds, desserts, ice cream, sodas and enormous amounts of wonder bread.
Lately I’ve been trying not to eat so much crap on weekends. I’d like to get my bodyfat a little lower, and I think this is the way to go.
