Hi,
Past couple of months I’ve been hitting the low end of reps for squat.
Mondays workout I hit the numbers listed below (this is the 5’s week)
- The template I use is the 2 day, Week 1 squats, Week 2 deads (BBB deadlift on squat day,BBB squats on deadlift)
PR set 6
JK set 1 -3
JK set 2 -2
JK set 3 -1
FSL -10
Do you guys think these are too low for a 5 week and time to lower the TM or is this fine?
Thank you
As long as you get the minimum prescribed reps, there is no problem. Especially if you are still able to hit jokers at or around your TM.
This seems to be a subject of much debate. I’ve been running the program for three years now and always continued progressing until I could only achieve one additional rep above the min for that week. Even after a reset I might be lucky to hit nine on week 1, six on week 2, etc. It wasn’t until I started following this forum that I realized a lot of people run 5/3/1 with much higher rep ranges…
Because I now prefer some additional volume I’ve since backed off the TM a bit, hoping to hit Jim’s prescribed 10, 8, 5 “cap”, and then adding a few jokers and one FSL, on an auto-regulation basis. My body seems to be responding well to this and my progression has been solid, though this change also coincides with me switching to Plazma/MAG-10 for per-workout nutrition, so that may be partially responsible…
In any event, I agree with I-Bomb and others that as long as you started light and are still meeting the minimum reps, you’re following the program as intended. Beyond that is just personal preference.
Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.
