I usually wait about 60 seconds between sets, but what about between 2 different exercises? Should I still wait 60 seconds or longer? (ex 60 seconds between each bench press set, but 120 seconds between 3rd bench press and 1st incline bench set?)
You should probably stick with whatever rest interval protocol you have decided on for in between moves also , just out of curiosity, what is your logic behind the rest time you have chosen? (your overall goals)
Firstly, GDWarrior don’t listen to that fuck head. If you are super setting two exercises thats the point you only take the time that you need to set up for the next exersice off. I like short rest periods becasue I feel like my intensity doens’t waver. I also read there’s hormonal advantages to short rest periods. I read that in Weider publication.
It really depends on what type of workout you’re doing. I’ve done workouts where there is 30 seconds between two different super setted exercises (fat lose), and workouts where there is several minutes (strength training). Different amounts of rest do different things, and it really does depend on what your goals are. Look around at some of the workouts posted on the site, and you’ll get a feel for what will work best for your current workout.
First things first. Is this question regarding supersetting or not?
If not, then Monstermatt is right.
If yes, then Growing_Boy is right.
I prefer to keep my rest periods to a min of 60 seconds, but a max of 90 seconds. Not really into supersettings, drop sets, negatives whateva.
i usually prefer to have longer rest intervals between heavy sets with low reps… and shorter rest intervals between light sets with high reps… i do this because when taking shorter breaks on the light sets, the muscle is forced to work harder and get a good pump
my goals are strength and size, no supersets
For strength work, you generally want close to full recovery between sets of the same exercise. Take a look at the workouts in http://www.T-Nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1807367
and http://www.T-Nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1676278
to get an idea of how different rest periods are used depending on what type of set/rep scheme and loading you are using. And then experiment a little. As you can see from the replies, everyone has a slightly different rest time that they prefer, and you’ll have to see what works best for you.

I agree with park.
This is what I do. I feel that when lifting heavy weight that you need the rest to be able to lift the heavy weight set after set. With lighter weight you can rest less and focus on just banging out reps instead of focusing on going heavy. Focus more on the burn and pump here. This is all my opinion some like to do the opposite but it is all preference.
