Has anybody here suffered a tibia fracture and has been treated with a intramedullary rod? If so, how was your recovery?

My dad had that done 45 years ago and still says it sucked. I’m sure they have come a long way since then but it still can’t be a cakewalk. You would think there would be something new or a better way. It’s so invasive to start with and then after all is healed, they pull it out!
