Throwing Heavy Stuff Far

3/24

Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 95/2, 105/1, 110/1, 115/1, 120/1, 125/.5
Squats: 110/2, 120/2, 130/1, 140/1

Didn’t even try the jerk at 125, but the clean was decent. Was hoping to get 2 at 140 in the squats, and then maybe 142.5/2 and 145/2, but it wasn’t there.

At those weights and reps, I’m not surprised you didn’t get past 140 on squats. Nice work!

3/26

Snatch: 60/2, 70/2, 80/2, 90/1, 95/1, 100/0, 90/1, 95/1, 100/1, 102.5/1, 105/1, 107.5/0
Bench: 72.5/3, 82.5/3, 92.5/3, 97.5/2, 102.5/2, 107.5/1 another new pr.
Snatch High Pulls: (117.5/3)3
Split Squats: (100lbs/6)2

Good day, but not as good as I hoped. The 102.5 snatch was very nice, the 105 a tad out front. The 107.5 wasn’t even close.

The 102 and 105 snatches from today’s training:

Edit: once again, no video, here’s the link:

On looking at the video, its not so much that the weight went forward on the 105 snatch, but that I do some kind of strange shift while standing up with it. The pull at the top was significantly closer to cog than the 102.5 was.

Kicking ass like always.
Reading and watching your thread reminds me of a spanish beauty I once knew…I didn’t know WHAT she was saying, but she was great to look at!
Super slow looks even more bad-ass than the other vids. Cool indeed, keep it up.

Thanks zildjianman.

Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 95/2, 105/1, 110/1, 115/1, 120/.5, 115/1, 120/1, 125/.75
Squats: 110/2, 120/2, 130/2, 140/1
Push Press: 65/3, 75/3, 82.5/3, 87.5/2, 90/1, 92.5/1
Clean High Pulls: (132.5/3)3

Another “good but not great” session.

Lost back position on the first clean at 120, which made for a soft bottom position and hard squat. Didn’t have the energy to try the clean. On the 125, solid clean, good dip and drive on the jerk, good bar placement, but instead of keeping upper body tight and lower body relaxed at the end (so the body can be pushed under the bar), for some reason I kept my lower body tight and the bar rebounded and broke the lock on my left elbow. Couldn’t hold it up after that.

90 1nd 92.5 are both prs in push press.

With the squats, I only tried 1 rep at 140, but made it as solid as possible.

This was the last heavy session until the competition next Saturday.

3/30

Snatch: 60/2, 70/2, 80/2, 90/1, 95/1, 100/1, 102/1
Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 95/2, 105/1, 110/1, 115/.5, 120/1, 122/1

Quick and easy, went up to opening weights as I’m planning them now. pushed the 115 and 120 jerks out front, couldn’t hold the 115.

Here’s the last c&j from Friday with the missed jerk, the 102 snatch and the 122 c&j from today.

And slow motion.

It’s like a Garfield cartoon without Garfield in it…

I wonder why videos aren’t posting?

Seems to happen increasingly often. I’m uploading them to youtube now.

I subscribed. Dunno why I didn’t think to before.

3/31

Snatch: 60/3, 70/3, 80/3, 90/2, 95/1
Clean and Jerk: 65/2, 80/2, 95/2, 105/1, 110/1, 115/1

Even quicker and easier today. No problems with the jerk like yesterday, 95 with the snatch was easier than its been lately.

One more session until the comp.

Great training Carl. Good luck with the comp. Hope you hit all the numbers you’ve set for yourself.

Thanks eco, I’m not sure I’ll be getting a 116 snatch as is the hope and goal, but I’ll do my best and attempt what I feel are the most I can do on Saturday. Right now I’m planning on opening at 102 and 122, with 5 kilo jumps between attempts. These numbers may get adjusted up or down, depending on how my warmups feel.

Carl
your last vid’s looked solid
very solid good luck on your meet.

kmc

Thanks kmc. Its to the point where I can raise my heart rate considerably just by thinking.

Hi Carl.

I recently discovered this thread and have spent the last couple of days reading through it and watching your beautiful videos.

I’m 46 and started lifting when I was 41. I’ve been mostly powerlifting (175kg sq, 125kg bp, 235kg dl, raw@~90kg), but for the last couple of months I’ve been attempting to learn the Olympic lifts. I’ve found your videos, tips and commentary helpful to that end and I’ll be following your training log.

Helgi

Helgi, welcome to the thread and oly lifting. With numbers like yours, I’m glad we’ll never be in the same age group. After this week, the focus of my training is going to switch to throwing, but there will still be a lot of oly lifting going on. I’m glad you find some of my ramblings here useful.
