Thoughts on Approaching 60

After 56 years, there’s a few things I’ve learned that I’d like to share. At least if no one reads it I’ll have the fun of typing it.

(1) Check your vitamins. Copper has been implicated in Alzeimer’s. Skip the iron too, unless you like therapeutic phlebotomies.

(2) Get a reverse osmosis system for your kitchen. Copper pipes are in 80% of homes.

(3) Ignore your doctor, mostly. They mostly whore for Big Pharma. Get a yearly prostate exam, colonoscopy every 5 years, blood draws at least once per year. Otherwise, ignore.

(4) Follow your dentist exactly. Many diseases originate in our mouths. Brush 2 or more times per day, floss EVERY day.

(5) Do more anaerobic than aerobic. I do 3 days weights and 2 aerobic per week. The reasons for this are numerous and all over this site.

(6) Learn how to handle a weapon. Older people are preferred targets. They’re usually weak and have money.

Anything anyone wants to add? Please feel free.

Re copper: Back some years ago Ralston Purina(?) was putting together a new feed for turkeys. They fed 3 flocks. Each time a turkey, or any animal/bird, on test dies, it is autopsied. When turkeys on the feed died, they were found to have brain anuerisms. The feed was examined and was found to have zero trace copper. The copper was added to the feed, and a new test started. No more anuerims.

When Conway Twitty died on stage of an anuerisms, I wondered if he died of a lack of copper. To this day I make sure I get the minimum amounts of copper.

OH, aluminium has been found is certain amounts in the top of the brain stem, and is believed to be a problem. Why not attack aluminium?? It is monster of an industry, and is everywhere you look. Pop can, beer, cooking utensils…

This one reminded me of a story that hit the news about 20 years ago…

This senior couple was walking home from an evening out and a group of punks circled them and started to harass them… The old guy (had a walking cane), kept asking them to move along and let them pass, but the punks continued…

Eventually they grabbed his wife’s purse, to which he requested they return it, as he doesn’t want to hurt them…

Laughing, the first guy proceeded to punch the old guy out…

The headlines in the paper the next day read: Retired Airborne Ranger puts 8 in hospital

Apparently he served in several wars, and ended up training soldiers on gorilla warfare tactics…

he he he…

“Copper pipes could cause people over 50 to contract Alzheimer’s Disease and heart disease, a study has found.”

I am going to do some thinking on that. It will require a change in my thinking, and regimin.

Can you find the article? I’d love to read that.

(7) Except for dinner with your family, your diet should consist of walnuts, almonds, salmon, cottage cheese, olive oil, and eggs from cage-free hens. Similar items are good but that what I eat.

Bread, cookies, pie, cake = death

(8) After 56 years of age I’ve learned to admit I am no longer middle aged.

Yup. I used to go and lift with the high school kids at the school where I teach. My numbers are pretty good but now they leave me in the dust. At our age, maintaining is the goal.

I did recently switch to HST (Hypertrophy-specific training) and have put on a couple of pounds in the right places, though. So it CAN still be done.

Damn, giving up cookies.

Recently learned how true this is. I had a physical recently and despite a clean diet, 190 lbs at 6’ and weights, cardio, karate, for forty years I have bloodwork that indicates that I am pre-diabetic. Bread and 7-10 pieces of fruit need to be replaced by almonds, walnuts, and vegetables.

Really socks, but dealing with this kind of stuff is what the next 35-40 years of life have in store. Just got to deal with and push on.

(9) I’ve learned to arm myself for self defense. Just don’t heal from an ass whopin like I used to. (can’t win em all :}

Your avatar says it all. If the Austrian Oak looks like that, just imagine normal people! He must have access to the best anti-aging docs, yet looks like that.

Then again, Stallone apparently looks quite good, through the use of HGH and Test. I’m considering HGH for myself.

that’s unfair, the second pic was taken AFTER Arnold had been relatively immobilized from a broken leg he got skiing. I’m sure he’s in much better shape now.

There is an Airborne Ranger training facility just outside of my home town in N.E. Georgia. I knew a couple of the instructors there. They were both nice guys…and at the same time two of the baddest MoFo’s I’ve ever met. One of them was married to my ex-wife’s sister. Very likable…to the extent that someone 6’5" and 275lbs. (with maybe 10% of that total actually being body fat) who trains other people how to kill can be “likable”

I like your list except the cottage cheese, why the dairy suggestion?
