I tribute video Sean Hatley made
I fell much the same Monoply yesterday was a very rough day of training, it makes you stand back and think more about what you are doing.
Todays training was a lot better though, I don’t think Jesse would have wanted anyone to quit training. We should all just be a little more aware of what we are doing.
One of the greatest, both as a competitor and a person. He had a recent birth in the family too, with Callie giving birth to his son only one month ago.
I had never met Jesse, but have talked to him over the phone and internet. He had gone out of his way and made great donations to our upcoming contest. Having taken 3rd at the vegas after coming off a knee injury, I had him as my pick to win the wsm. I was hoping to make it to sequim in order to train with him next year.
Dia duit.
The Marunde family and the Sequim crew, including Callie (his wife) and Gigi (his mother) continued training, even the day after his death.
I can’t imagine the strength it takes to fight back the tears and squat, but you’re absolutely right.

A tragedy. I too, can’t believe the strength that it must’ve taken for his family to train in a situation such as that. Peace, Jesse.
We should all be so lucky to die doing something we love.
That being said, condolences to the family and it’s a damn shame.
He had a bright future ahead of him.
Absolutely shocked…
I want to see what the autopsy results are. Got to wait a month they said though, right?
I was up in Sequim 3 months ago with some friends one of which knew Jesse well. I honestly don’t know what to think about that guy. I’ll just leave it at that.
How shocking and sad.
This is horrible. Jesse seemed to be a fantastic guy, and was an awesome strongman. I fully expected him to one day win the WSM. I for one will miss seeing him compete.
My condolences to the Family of Jesse Marunde…
I don’t know what the exact causes of the death were but what I do know is that efter a very intense bout of exercise like that what jesse had done…it is best not to stop immediately and lay down as this will put even strain on the heart…this is probably what happened from what it sounds like
R.I.P Jesse. My thoughts and best wishes to the Marunde family.

I would suggest that since the few people on this thread who may be doctors were not actually THERE WITH Jesse when he passed, and do not have access to his medical records, that we keep the baseless speculation off of the thread.

Agreed…
I can’t believe I didn’t see this thread before.
This is shocking. I never met him, but I remember watching a lot of his videos, work outs etc, and just being amazed at his strength and tenacity to get through some incredibly grueling work outs. He was definitely an influence and an inspiration and it’s such a shame he passed before he was able to realize his dreams in the sport for which he had so much passion.
My condolences go out to the Marunde family.
Very very very sad. I’ve been struggling with this since I read it on Iron Mind. I didn’t even mourn my grandparents passing and I loved them dearly. I guess it is just that he was so young and he seemed to be a man of character.
R.I.P jesse, you’ve been an inspiration for me since JV Askem introduced you many years ago. You died on my birthday…
