This is a sad day for the lifting community. I’ll keep the Marunde family in my thoughts.

Ya know, I was just thinking that. I’m sure it will surface, just as it has against anyone who has been involved in competitive sports that died young. Plus the fact that he was a strength competitor makes it that much easier to blame steroids, whether he used them or not.
Damn it all
RIP

i was just about to post this phil. horrible news to start the day! According to Selby MacFarlane on the NAS forum Marunde had a ``massive coronary’’ after doing a set of high-rep squats, though this hasn’t been confirmed by his family yet.
jesse was only 28. i’m absolutely stunned by this. i had the pleasure of training in a group with him last year. seemed like a decent guy.
Damn and crazy thing He posted just yesterday morn that he was going to have a “KIller” training session and he was nervous about it. Sad day for sure

Yes I read that post yesterday as well, something like HEAVy high rep snatches, push press with 300+ pounds for high reps, a bunch of other stuff and a I think it was 20 rep squat drop set, decreasing the weight each set, sorry if I am wrong this is all of memory as the site is still down.
This is one instance where thankfully strongman is under the radar so I dont expect much media bullcrap, internet jackass’s will still be fucktards.
I do suggest we keep this topic away from that and have some respect for his family.
I am sure there will be a donation set up for his family I will gladly contribute and would urge others to do the same.
I can’t believe it. I saw this this morning on another board and my jaw dropped! He just had a child recently with his wife Callie. This is terrible, I hate when things like this happen.

Absolutely.
Just found this.
A month ago or so some people claimed he died, but then Jesse showed up on his board and cleared things up.
I didn’t believe it at first when I saw the thread title, thinking it would be the same people doing the same sad prank, but I guess this time it’s for real.
Rest in peace Jesse.
This is an unbelievable tragedy. I met Jesse on numerous occasions and he was one of the nicest and most accessible people I have ever met. The first strongman comp I ever went to he walked up to me out of the blue and just started chatting about where I was from and how I liked the comp.
He was a consummate showman and always gave the crowd their money’s worth. This is just awful. The fact that his wife just gave birth makes this all the more tragic.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Marunde family. The strongman world has suffered a terrible loss.
I just read that you can make a donation through the paypal link on his forum www.marunde-muscle.com. The website is not currently running but will be back up soon.
Lets do what we can to help his family however we can.
Rest in Peace
God bless your family in times of deep sorrow
Wow.
Really at a loss for words. Very sad day on many levels.
I wish the best for his family. RIP.
Monopoly
I can’t believe this is true. Wow…
I only follow the StrongMan world from the periphery, but I certainly knew who Jesse was and had been awed by some of his training videos on YouTube. To see such a big man do clapping pull ups for reps really made me feel like a pussy and motivated me to work harder.
It’s terribly sad he died so soon, with so much life still ahead of him. My condolences to his family, including his StrongMan friends, of which he had many.
What a tragedy.
He had such a strong future, and I’ve never heard anything but positives about the guy. A sad day for strength athletes. I wish his family the best.

For those of you that are wanting to make contributions to the Marunde Family, you can make them through Jesse’s Forum via the paypal site. Sarge is going to be getting the site back on-line, and contributions can then be made for the family. Please keep the Marunde family in your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, Sarge and myself both feel that monetary contributions will be much appreciated by the family.
NAS and ASC will be getting shirts made to sell at the contests, and all contributions from the t-shirt sales will be given to the Marunde family.

R.I.P.
Whoah,… I just recently met him at a strongman show, my gym buddy knew all the dudes there, and afterwards, Jesse stood around and bullshitted for a while… truly a decent man.

Fucking awful.
Friends, we suffered a great loss in the strongman community last evening. The Sequim Crew was doing what they do. Training hard and particularly training Jesse for the WSM contest in Anaheim. He died quickly and painlessly.
The squat set was as follows:
230kg x 8
190kg x 8
150kg x 8
110kg x 8
70kg x 8
Followed immediately by:
600# tire flip
265# stone load
All of this was done with no rest between sets. Rack, pull, go
At the completion of these sets Jesse laid on his back, on the cold floor like normal. Breck and Sarge noticed that his breathing was laborious. Jesse became incoherent and stopped breathing. We administered cpr, called 911 and continued to resusitate until paramedics arrived. They set up the defibrillator, epinephrin, to no avail. He was worked on for over an hour between Breck, Sarge and the paramedics.
These are the facts as it happened. We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We appreciate your support and prayers.
The Sequim Crew
