This Thing We Do

First, I was off the internet all yesterday cause ole’ unfaithful, my computer, finally gave up the ghost on me. Momma bought me a new one and I’ve been getting it all set up.

Go some vids of me benching on my cell phone and as soon as I get some programs that only work in XP updated for vista I’ll try and get them off my phone and upload them to YouTube.
Really did enjoy talking to a Dr without all the bs jargon and the “oh don’t do that’s”.

Kmc, I carry my bag with the strap around my neck, right to left. I keep using the term scar tissue but the muscles actually are a little shorter because of the damage done by the bullets. Same in my hip. (he could have taken that in to account for my lousy squats!)

They shot horses don’t they Barry? Besides, I had a broom to defend myself with. Would have swept the room with him.

Good workout hel. I’m trying to relearn my whole damn training! I know the bench thing is a challenge. I’m struggling with better form as I try to move away from a “body builders” bench press.

Been lifting alot. Throwing stuff, too. Working on new form. Flat back but still listing to one side when benching. Pissing me off. Need to spread legs wider and get a better base. Cell phone video.

Cool vid hel! You throw around 315 like it’s nothing.

I was thinking the same thing…

In that video it looks like you could throw that weight over the uprights for distance.

I call hollow plates.
Hel you are an animal.

Thanks guys but I was pretty pissed off when I came off the bench. Somewhere between the 3rd and 4th rep I lost my form and the right shoulder blade came off the bench. I finished up lower on one side than the other. I was working on sets of 8 but didn’t get it on that one. Anyone know if there’s a standard bench width required in competition or if it’s just what’s provided at the meet?

Been shying away from cleans cause of my thumb so easied back into some shoulder work tonight after work.

115wu,135x6,155x6,185x4,4
Standing press

Thumbs still a little stiff but going to try and start hitting the deads heavy again in the morning.

Early yesterday

DB Reverse wood chop

Went out and threw the scotish hammer in the rain. Looks like there may be 2 more highland games I can make. Seems this year may be more highland than T&F. More time in drag.

Good strong pulls Chief!

Good sessions Hel! Lol @ “more time in drag” comment.
How did the thumb feel after deads?

Some nice consistent lifting combined with a variety of throwing…what more could a guy ask for??? I enjoyed the video, watching you play with taht weight…even though you found fault with it, the strength is definately there, your form can be improved as you see fit!
I guess your thumb “passed” the DL test with flying colors…now on to the cleans & you’ll be back in the saddle again. Good luck with everything!

I like the vid too! Real strong benching. Glad to see the thumb is coming along.

The mobility in the thumb is still a little off. Still can’t bend it all the way around the bar. Getting some real got finger grip work out of the deads, though. Truth be told, it’s such a wussy injury. There’s just no real manly sounding way to use it as an excuse. Take the following conversation,

“You’re going a pretty light lately.”
“Yeah, just had an operation.”
“Shoulder, pec?”
“Naw,thumb.”
“Thumb?”
“Yeah, see.”
“Wow, that looks really, really…minor.”
“It get’s in the way a lot, affects the grip.”
“Yeah, yeah, man. I had this hang nail once. Hurt like hell, too. And then one time I got this wicked paper cut.”
“Ok, I’m going to over to the pink dumbell section now.”
“Hey, maybe you should like get a handicap sticker and parking spot.”
Ok, not a real conversation but it’s what I imagine everytime my thumb comes up.
Squats tomorrow. Need to kick up the level on the zerchers. Caber weighs more every year.

How much does a caber weigh, and how long is it anyway? I deal with a lot of logs living in the woods and all, but I rarely try picking them up any more unless they are down to about 8 feet long, much less throw them.

90 to 120#, 16’ to 20’ in length. Trick is the balance on the sholder.

Love the vid. An inspiration to us bench challenged folks.

I’m sure everyones lifting good. Last couple of mornings all I can get on most threads is the white screen. Hit last and the lastest I get is December.
Last night

It’s spring break here for the school kids so the vacations are maxed out and we’ve got a couple of mail carriers down for other reasons. What’s it mean? Mandatory 12 hour shifts all this week. Work, gym, bed, work. Next week the wife, her sister, and a niece are headed to the Philippines for 2 weeks and I’m on vacation for the same 2 weeks. Got some remodeling to do in the kitchen but other than that I plan on 2 straight weeks of lifting and throwing.

Your squat looks great.Bet you can nail 405 now!Have a great day.

Lifting looks great! I’ll bet those 2 weeks off will go by fast… Plus we know the dogs are going to be living it up too
