This Thing We Do

Last night went swimming at the indoor pool. Chlorine sucks.

I’m off work for the next 4 days. Got some projects around the house but plenty of time to lift. Going to see just how hard I can lift for 4 straight days. Going to the gym real early so I can have everything to myself. On the 4th day I will be repeating the first days work out so it should be the real indicator of fatique.

We survived the ghosts and goblins last night. We sit out front with some of the neighbors and just hand out the candy. Wife kept catchin me samplin the candy. She didn’t buy the “I need the energy” line. Candles lit all over the house today and the wife is cooking up a meal for the dead. Philippino tradition.

Been on here one year now so thought I’d regale and amaze you with some words of wisdom. Also, wife’s at a meeting, already been to the gym, TV sucks, and even the dogs are ignoring me.
Random thoughts.
Some on this web site continuously bemoan the vanishing “serious lifter” from our midst(not on this forum). Being a “Serious lifter” to me has nothing to do with the poundage you’re moving or the shape you’re currently in. It’s that you’re pushing yourself to exceed your present capabilities and continually raising your expectations of what you can accomplish.

Next, noticed a lot of people “our age” don’t post in this section and really have no idea what people their age are doing. I always remember this one from some thread; and I quote, “you wouldn’t, say, go to the over 35 lifter forum to read about how to get your bench to 315, would you”? Kind of like, if I go to the over 35 section I’ll be admitting I’m old. (you are, so what?)
Whether it be knowledge of general lifting, sports, nutrition, MA, OL, PL, BB, anatomy, physcology, sexual innuendo, or just plain morale support, everyone posting in this forum brings something to the table. We’ve been a remarkably homogeneous group and troll free. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Ok, nothing profound. I’ve truly enjoyed interacting with all of you for the past year and can safetly say I think all the regulars have made gains in their chosen areas. I’ve learn a lot here and not just about lifting. Look forward to sharing my witty repartee with you and providing insightful and scientifically backed advise for another year.

nice post, hel.

x2.

I wear “Over 35” as a badge of honor. There’s some real work being done in these old, decrepit folk’s threads. I’d put our logs against any other logs on the site and pound for pound I think more work is being done in this forum.

Kudos to you and my fellow old men (‘old’ in years only, not in spirit or strength)

4th day in a row of heavy workouts and Im not feeling any lack of strength or energy. Some DOMS in certain areas but that seems to clear up as soon as I start working out. Haven’t been working either so not sure how the added walking would have affected my energy level. Going to try and keep going until I feel worn out.

This morning:
Bench
135wu,245xMax x 5
Incline (smith machine)
245xMax x 5
Hammer Incline

Ab thingy 100x Max x 5

…nice to have 4 nice workouts in a row, eh??
Being off from work, in spite of chores or projects, lends itself well to guaranteeing great workouts in my experience. Take advantage of them while you can.

Your words of wisdom kinda hit home with me; I think you have quite a talent for stringing your thoughts into words!

Hel320 revealed!!!

I was in the store the other day, and who comes around the corner heading right to me? Mr. H himself, at least, I thought it was. Unless you where in Denver the other day, I’d swear it was your twin! Straight out of the avatar pic no kidding.

He turned out to be a little smaller I think, but dam it was close. Made me laugh the whole day. Looking good with the training, I hope to get back up to speed soon.

Last time I was in Denver Lowry AFB was still open and I had some fun times. I was there for some training but did manage to take in the local nightlife. Think it was down on East Kolfax? Used to be where all the off limits joints were so we naturally headed straight there.

Yes, so the max gets lower as the weight goes up

So you gonna post a pic of you doing a “most muscular” pose?

Nice work hel…those squats are really coming around for you.

Thanks DZ, I’m about ready to start raising the weight and lowering the reps. Been working on getting my feet out wider and more into a PL type stance.
Skid, last time I tried taking a pic doing a most muscular pose looked like I was trying to give birth. Facial expressions are a much under appreciated part of posing.

I’ve been put in charge of “logistics” for the Vet home for the upcoming Vet Day parade. This means I get to herd a bunch of cantankerous old GIs into a bus, get them to their designated spot, keep them from wandering off, load them back up and get them back to the home safe. Their list of special requirements for the trip include," bottles of hooch, the good stuff", “stopping by a whore house”, “lots of broads with bigguns”,“box of stogies”. I think I’ll borrow a cattle prod.

Thank God for Viagra…

hel, you gonna try low carb? If you can stick to it it leans you out very quickly. You don’t feel as hungry either. I’m trying my best to stick to it.
