Afternoon
swimming in a cement pond, not the river

Thanks for the vid hel. I’d work on that scoot , at least for a while, just to see what kind of distances you can get out of it. If it doesn’t give you what you want, the just bring it like you did, when everyone is done for.

Today

Squat
155x10x4
Leg Press
200,290,380wu,470x10,560x10
bent row

shrugs
225x max x 4
hammer curls

Healthy diet stuff. Not sure if the picture will have much detail. Back part of my property has wild blackberry bushs so we’re starting to pick the ripe ones. Should have fresh blackberries for the next couple of weeks. This diet stuff ain’t so bad!

They look good.

Oh what I would give for a blackberry cobbler…

Your weights are going up. Squats are looking good. Is your shoulder loosening up or have you just figured out how to fit yourself to the bar?

Haven’t had blackberry cobbler in years, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Got plenty of blueberries though.

Still just wedgin myself in an squatin. Shoulder still feels the same. I’m only getting the index and middle finger from each hand on the bar. The bar is still higher than I liked it for squatting “back in the day”. So far the weight hasn’t even mattered. Still doing the leg press for my real workout. Figure I’ll just keep raising the weight a little each time.

PS…great avatar, carry mail all day, just what I need, another stamp, ahhhhhh:) The days of the 24 center are long gone.

How about I change it to my great-granddaddy. He was the patriarch of a real motley crew.

Last night

Power cleans
135wu,185x6,205x5,225x4,245x3
mil press
135x8,155x6,185x4x3
Face pulls
60,70,80,90 x 10 (new, have to experiment with for a while)
Deadlift
135,225,315x5,375x4,405x2

That was a hell of a session. Nice mumbers, especially the p-cleans and the mil presses.

MP questions:
Do you lock out the MP’s at the top?

Do you pause at the bottom or touch and go?

What kind of stance/hand width do you do use?

Great workout, Hel. I think I need me some of them blackberries.

  1. Yes, always (I try to lock out any pressing movements. When throwing the shot you want full extension, “chasing the shot” and no short stroking)
  2. Touch and go
  3. Standing, legs about shoulder width, hands are slightly wider than shoulders. Slight lean back or I’d hit myself in the chin. Elbows are pretty much straigt down under the bar, can’t rack the bar with my elbows up. Try to use only shoulders/arms but if I can’t make the last rep not above using a little dip/push.

Geech, I have get to them before the wife. Division of labor. I pick, she eats.

Just a few random thoughts before work today.
I rarely watch sports, never really have. Most the sports I’d really enjoy watching don’t get much coverage anyway. But the Olympics is different. Hell, that ain’t sports that’s a religon to me. I’d watch team syncronized underwater basket weaving if it was an event. Of real interest to me this year is, of course, the throws. Men’s Shot put should be 1-2-3 for the US. Unfortunately the US will be lucky to even place in the other throwing events.

Hope everyone has a good 4th lined up. You non-US guys feel free to celebrate, too. (yeah, like Canadians and Aussies need an excuse to have a beer:)) We’re already lining up the Bar-b-ques and have enough fireworks to start a mini revolution. Gotta go carry some mail now, ya’ll enjoy.

Same here.

You know, I loose twenty more pounds and I’m having blackberry cobbler to celebrate.

Until then it is half a cup a day of berries with the protein shakes.

Started yesterday with a 0400 workout.
Bench
135,185,225wu,275x8, 295x7,315x6,335x4
Hammer Incline Machine
90,160wu,210x10x4
straight arm flyes
20,25,30,35x8
CGB
135wu,185x10,225x8x3
Tri Ext
90,110,120x10x3

Great time yesterday. No arrests and no divorces. Big brothers out did themselves on the ribs and yard bird. I out did myself on eatin them. One of my nieces brought a new boyfriend who’s a powerlifter. Big kid. Think by the time we got to the second or third keg he was totaling around 4000. That’s okay, think I claimed I use to press VWs, out swam Mark Spitz, stunt doubled for John Holmes and invented the lava lamp. After we opened up Mr Daniels we agreed to do some liftin together if we could find a gym with 1000 lb dumbbells. Time to pay for my sins now and go carry some mail. Hope everyone had a good 4th and enjoys the weekend.

So THAT’S what “jacked” means…

I wondered.

This morning:
Squats
135x10,145x10,155x10,165x10
Leg Press
200,400wu,490x10,580x8x4
Thought I’d get experimental today and try some stuff I don’t or haven’t done in a long time. First I screwed around with the face pulls and tried all kinds of different bars, ropes, grips til I finally found the one that hit just where I wanted it to.

Long straight bar with D shaped hand holds on the end. Pull to the chin. Felt them in my rear delts and traps. Keeper.
Next I did some dips-4x8xBW. Kept using the lower chest more than the tris. Finally lifted my knees to the front as a counter balance and hit the tris pretty good.

Okay so I’m cocky now. Pullups. Haven’t done these since back in the day. I can bent row some heavy weight so no problem with the lats. Right. 1…2! Grip must be too narrow. 1…flutter kick…1 1/2,…strain… 1 3/4…stretch chin…

  1. Pullup prowess seems to have gone the way of my youth. Don’t know if I really need these But it was an eye opener. Played around with all the chest and arm machines and cable thingys but didn’t find any I couldn’t live without.

Actually looked at some of the thigh machines which brought Susanne Summers to mind and said naw. Overall just a fun morning. Except for those damn pullups. Ego might bring me back to those.

Looks like a fun session! On the pullups - play around with different grips, palms facing toward you, away from you and each other. Everything I’ve read says that even if one way is easier you end up getting the same or better training effect because you do more that way.
