That’s a nice workout man! Good luck on the weather gods. If you figure out how to do the “nice weather” dance teach it to me.
Up here everyone is doing rain dances to recover the central part of the state from the drought, so my quiet hopes of “warm and sunny” are going unheaded.
But I guess since NC is fast becoming an urban state like Fla, its ok…
OPPS…My political commentary damn near became a hijack…sry 'bout that!

Pole twists - concentrating on keeping my right arm high for discus release
Really working on setting a PR in the Discus my next meet. Don’t mind getting beat, just don’t like getting beat when I didn’t do my best.
QT, really, really good to hear from you. Glad you’re doing better.
j_willy, pretty much has been for me.
bunny, them greek fellas knew a thing or 2 bout throwin’ the discus, too.
Hulkazoid, it’s a throwing thing. Basically I’m not bringing my arm up high enough for the release and “throwing from the hip”. Pole twist are just doing a bunch of discus spins back to back with a pole on your shoulders and arms stretched out on it. Getting use to keeping my arm up high.

Here’s my favorite quote:
“My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate… at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in a maze of mediocrity. I won’t give up, shut up, let up, or slow up.”~ Robert Moorehead
After work yesterday I went straight to the throwing field. College is pretty much over for the year so I’ll be having the field all to myself for the next couple of months. Worked only on form. Trying to do it right, slowly, and every practice speed up a little maintaining good form. Hard as hell to resist the urge to throw as hard you can. Hopefully I will be building muscle memory (do our muscles get alzhiemer?)with each session.
Hel320, I just noticed this in your last workout log: “Hyperextension 3 set time max”: Maybe because you are a thrower you are more agile and sure than I, but I am not sure how to imagine you do this – as fast as possible? Or is the number of reps not the point here? Thanks in advance.

Maybe I phrased that bad. 3 sets x max reps. Not me but this is the same machine I use. I just come up as fast as I can as many times as I can until I can’t do anymore. Speed is more important to me right now than reps. When training for strength I usually hold a 25# weight to my chest and do sets of 10-15. A lot slower.

You’ve got a glute ham machine? Lucky dog! [/quote]
Damn Skid, you’re right. I really never thought of it as that and I’ve never used it for those or even tried them. Never seen anyone at the gym use it for those, either. May give them a try after the season. Work on the tush a little.

Hel, how long did it take you to learn the shot rotational style? You look good in the video. I’ve been practicing with my old slide technique and tried rotational a couple times, but it’s pretty pathetic. Then again, my slide is nothing special - I can still throw 2 feet farther with a little side skip across the circle. Please tell me you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
Hey Billy, you know what Brian oldfield said about us mature guys, “old guys should just scoot across the ring.” I first learned the rotational style back in the 80’s when Randy Barnes was setting all the records.
My first year in master’s competition I used the glide and went to the spin last year. The technique isn’t that hard, it’s getting the speed back into it and not stopping your momentum in the transition (middle)that’s a bitch.
I’ve got a long weekend off. Just got back from throwing. Long practice. Shot, disc, and hammer. Sticking with my plan. Working the form, then the speed. Was reminded why hammer throwers don’t bench much. Throwing the hammer last. Go into the spin and my right pec cramps up big time.
I’m hopping around the field flapping my arms around like a wounded duck. Decided to quit practice for the day. Note to self, don’t throw hammer after bench night. Ah, the price of glory!
Tomorrow I’ll be doin some heavy plate liftin and carb loading at the family BarBQ. Everyone is coming. The women already making up the sides and I’m already hungry. Everyone have a good Memorial Day.
