This Pope...
VATICAN CITY?Following Pope Francis tolerant remarks Sunday about homosexuals and the Catholic Church, Vatican officials reportedly went into crisis mode, announcing that the Pope’s thoughtful message of understanding was clearly taken out of context. It is not the official stance of the Pope or the Catholic Church that all people of good will who seek the Lord, especially gay people, should be accepted by Christ, a visibly nervous Vatican spokesman told reporters, adding that the Holy Father was clearly tired after his long trip to Brazil and never meant for his comments to sound caring or realistic.

Homosexuality is a disorder. And this in no way means that, going forward, the Catholic Church will be an open-minded, more sensible organization. I assure you we are just as prejudiced and backward today as we were yesterday. Thank you. According to an anonymous source close to the Vatican, the Pope is currently being yelled at by Church officials, who are telling him, You don’t just go off script like that. Who the fuck do you think you are??
I knew when I heard the Pope didn’t say something inflammatory toward gays people would be pissed. Luckily some of the lunatics on this forum are delivering. Hate on dmaddox.
I did not hate on gays. I have nothing against homosexuals. I do have things against leaders in the church actively living in sin. If you are gay and you allow your sin to live in your house with you how hard is it to resist temptation?

I was only make a observation on what the Pope said. The statement seemed encrypted on actively gay priests still having a leadership roles. I was just trying to get clarification.

It must be the extreme skeptic of anything religious in me that instantly thought, “This Pope must be gay.” When he proclaimed no judgment on gays.

And to which I don’t care btw. People’s sexual preference is of no concern to me.
Neither is it to the Pope, as he said he cares about if they have accepted the Lord and if they have goodwill. Which would mean they don’t act on their sexual preference whether it be heterosexual or homosexual.
I never said it was. And having a girlfriend does not directly correlate to not being homosexual. But I am sorry the Catholic church is one of the most corrupt institutions ever to exist. And still is.

This Pope seems like a pretty good egg though.
Says people who don’t really know much about the church.
Says someone who is blinded and takes the word of the church at face value. I know plenty about the church’s history. If you think the Vatican has not been profoundly corrupt since its inception, I feel sorry for you.

Here let me remove all your sins just say 15 Hail Marys… Oh and slide me some money for your soul kk thx.

I wonder how many god fearing people who talk about the sin of gays have committed adultery. My guess is quite a few.

Most religious people just pick and choose the parts that they like from the Bible anyways and use it as a tool for hatred/judgment. The fact that this pope might not be doing that is a welcome change from a “church” leader and certainly beats the praying away the gay crowd.

Mmm, yes, bring your Catholic hate. I devour it and grow stronger!

Mad at the Pope? He didn’t say anything new…

There’s still people here who think this was news? I thought that was already cleared up.

Is this directed at me both of you? I have made it very clear on this site my sins, and that I struggle every day with them. Adultery is not one of them.

I will agree that there are a lot of church leaders that have committed adultery. One of my pastors growing up did. He resigned from his position. This is what I am talking about. Take responsibility for your sins. Do not hide them and definitely do not allow them to stay in your house to tempt you. You can not hide sin from God. Look at Genesis when God was walking in the garden looking for Adam and Eve.

Church leaders are held to a higher judgement than lay people. That was all I was saying, and I am in the same boat as Sloth. I just needed clarification on the statement and that has been cleared up. Lets get back to the topic.

Let’s continue to make false generalizations. I’m sure those religious folks you don’t like never do that.

I’m pretty sure there are only a few people in America who haven’t committed adultery. My guess, why does it matter? Wrong is wrong, eh?

Wrong is wrong agreed there. I live in the “Bible Belt” and religious people tend to be the most hypocritical self-centered judgmental people.

And I am not some Atheist by any means. I believe in a higher power just not all the BS stories and writings of man declaring what one should and should not do. People need to worry about themselves and their own problems and we would all be better off.

From my experience, it is usually not the church leaders, pastors, priests, etc that are judgmental, but the general members of the congregation who are the worst.

I will share a story with you. I have a best friend, since we were very young. He had an older brother and sister who were twins. A good bit older than him by about 13 years. The older brother was a PT and the sister was in medical school at the time 3rd year (drop dead gorgeous too btw). Anyways after a movie one evening, as they always had a twin night just to hang out as brother/ sister, they stumble upon a man beating a woman. Like full out punching and kicking her. He goes to stop the guy. The guy pushes him away and promptly pulls a revolver and shoots him right in the chest. She had to hold her own twin as he passed away in her arms.

One thing led to another and she got hooked on pain killers then eventually cocaine. She ended up in rehab for 6 months. Never really dealing with the grief from her twin’s death. Got straightened out and came back home to get her life on track. Now, her father who was a sheriff and also a deacon at the church. A very large church in Texas with a pastor who I am sure everyone has seen on TV. That particular pastor showed up at their house upon hearing she was back and living there after rehab and demanded her parents not have anything to do with her as she would never amount to anything and was a depraved lost sinner. Due to her drug use… Yeah he is a complete asshole and deserves everything bad that happens to him.

Long story short her father told him to shove his bible up his ass. Quite the church and hasn’t attended one since. OH and btw she is now a practicing OBGYN and one of the kindest least judgmental people you could ever meet. Because shes been through the shit and to the bottom and knows how easy it is to get there no matter where you are in life. I could go on and on with shit like this. Exactly why every organized religion can go fuck itself.

And maybe I am generalizing or making false assumptions, but I have to go on my experience and those around me. And 99% of it is bad when dealing with churches. I like logic, reason, and facts, which most churches shun when it doesn’t fit their religious agenda.

The diversity of christian denomination stemmed from the complete corruption of Roman Catholicism. And lets not even get into the widespread cover up of pedophilia exposed in the catholic church, which had the Vatican excommunicating priests for trying to expose it along with numerous other priests silencing those who tried to call out members of the clergy.

I guess that isn’t part of the history though. And you do realize most research is done now via the internet as scholarly articles are all scanned and in PDF now. Libraries are nearly obsolete. But nice meme.

That is horrible, and my heart goes out to your friend for that loss. I hope that pastor asks for forgiveness from that family and I hope they forgive him. I would say rot in Hell, but I do not want anyone to go there.

I have my issues with organized religion. Why you ask? It is run by people. People are fallible. We are sinners, and sinners make mistakes. We put our foots in our mouths all the time. We try to take the Bible and use it as sledge hammer. We point one finger at a sinner, and with that one finger 4 are pointed right back at us. We are hypocrites. The difference is we know it, and that is why we need a Savior. Some people just do not know how to love.

I have been burnt by pastors, deacons, elders, and many other people in churches. I forgive them, because that is what a Christian is suppose to do. It is not for the benefit of the person that wronged me, but for myself. I personally am not going to judge the creator by a fallen creation. God created us perfectly, but it is us that corrupted that perfect creation.

You never know who will end up in heaven.
