The Christian Agenda Continues

While all the bible thumpers bemoan what they see as a “gay agenda”, and lie awake at night trembling over what they surely believe will be a super gay apocalypse, I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread discussing the “christian agenda”. Personally, I think that there’s a certified shit-ton of christians out there, who would LOVE to see this country declare itself a christian theocracy, and throw off what they see as the chains of secularism.

Thoughts?

Oh, come on. A little theocracy never hurt anybody.

This etymology seemed especially appropriate for this thread, especially considering the picture I posted, and the tread this was created to counteract.

faggot
late 13c., “bundle of twigs bound up,” from Old French fagot “bundle of sticks” (13c.), of uncertain origin, probably from Italian faggotto, diminutive of Vulgar Latin *facus, from Latin fascis “bundle of wood” (see fasces).

Especially used for burning heretics (emblematic of this from 1550s), so that phrase fire and faggot was used to indicate “punishment of a heretic.” Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a faggot on their sleeve, as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved.

The oft-reprinted assertion that male homosexuals were called faggots because they were burned at the stake as punishment is an etymological urban legend. Burning was sometimes a punishment meted out to homosexuals in Christian Europe (on the suggestion of the Biblical fate of Sodom and Gomorrah), but in England, where parliament had made homosexuality a capital offense in 1533, hanging was the method prescribed.

From my perspective, I think if people want a “live and let live” then just let it be that. You can go your way, and we can go ours. Don’t infringe on us, and we won’t infringe on you. Everywhere I’ve been so far in my life, when you talk to people, they all feel this way when you get down to it. We just want to be able to live.

And on the same token, I think all forms of PDA are just inappropriate, gay and straight. I don’t want to see a guy with his tongue down his girlfriend’s throat dry-humping any more than I want to see two guys, or two girls doing it.

It works both ways. If you want to have your right to freedom, you should allow people who disagree with you to have the right to not like what you’re doing. People are entitled to their opinions, even if you don’t agee with them.

I wouldn’t mind an organic Catholic monarchy in America. But, even if that was the case I would fight against making Christianity the state religion.

IDK Man, you never hear the term ‘‘Quran Thumpers’’, yet they are WAY more Anti-Gay and Islam is
the fastest growing religion in America…and if one thinks Christians are Anti-Gay, if you’re gay, go ahead
and try to ‘out’ yourself in a Muslim Country and see how tolerant they are toward you because you just may be
beheaded before noon.

I’m a great admirer of Martin Luther King so I will leave recent historical ‘‘Christianity’’ alone because IMO he was probably
the best example of a Christian America’s ever had, but YES there are many so-called ‘‘Christians’’ today that
that have gone off the rails and are hypocrites that need to straighten their shit out.

I’ll go with a Venerable Fulton J. Sheen before MLK.

Malcolm X could kick Martin Luther King’s ass.

Sheen was cool…Good memories of watching him at my grandparents house years ago.
The reruns…I’m not that friggin’ old.

Alice Cooper…and he still does those crazy shows…I saw his cameo in DARK SHADOWS on HBO.
lol.

Why is this called the Christian agenda when it should be called the “conservative” agenda? I doubt Jewish folks, Muslim folks, etc. support the “Gay Agenda?”

Why target just one… or call it the “Religious Agenda?”

That would be racist. Everyone knows you have to take down the Catholic Church before you can go after other religions that preach against your immorality.

Brother Chris, I just can’t take you seriously… we all know that the Hulk, whether Incredible, or just credible, would never wear glasses… HULK SMASH!!!

I dunno, BC. The Catholics may have the numbers and the history, but the Westboro Baptists could give you a run for your money in the enthusiasm department.

So I was curious about Islam being the fastest growing religion. A couple of years ago I had heard it was being adopted by a lot of inner city folks out of rebellion (this was the theory anyways). But that aside, supposedly non-denominational Christianity / Evangelical was the fastest accelerating.

Apparently according to the Huffingtonpost, Mormonism is on the rise as the fastest growing out West. Soon we shall all have multiple wives!!!

Pardon me, I’m on a heavy dose pain killers, my ardor is down.

I however don’t believer ardor merits truthiness or benefit to civilization at large. Plus, have you seen how crazy Catholics are in Brazil right now? Even WBC thinks we’re nuts about our religion.

It’s a Christian agenda, not Catholic or any other specific denomination at this point because for the most part, in order to get into most forms of political power, you need to declare yourself a Christian, otherwise good luck getting the votes. The anti-gay rights, or religious agenda could only be powered by those in power, so correct me if I’m wrong, but that seems to mean it’s a Christian Conservative anti-gay rights agenda, not religious agenda in general. As most of the political support for things like Marriage equality are Liberal/ Democrats, who are self declared Christians. Liberal Christians were also primarily the ones who politically pushed for what Martin Luther King wanted…

Korado, for someone who likes Martin Luther King so much, how do you feel about the Conservative Legacy with Civil Rights? You see the writing on the wall don’t you? 10-20 Years from now your children, grandkids aren’t going to give two cents about gays being Married by the state, and they will rightly equivocate things like civil rights to gay rights, because they are the same damned thing.

You misunderstand me. I wasn’t referring to religious ardor in a general sense, but rather to the very specific and targeted enthusiasm that the members of the Westboro Baptist Church has for their anti-gay agenda. You know, the folks with the colorful “GOD HATES FAGS” signs. The Catholics haven’t had anything quite so overt in a good long time. Best look into it.

I think maybe Catholicism realizes their papal history of sexual deviancy and corruption precedes any efforts they could make to campaign against that sort of thing. Westboro is just another Jim Jone’s special in the making. Every group is certain they are right and everyone else is wrong. “Those who speak, don’t know. Those who know, don’t speak” - lao tzu

Mormons don’t do that anymore, it was officially (conveniently perhaps) changed by the church in 1890 so as to acquire statehood for Utah.

It is still practiced by the splinter group church called the FLDS, but they number only in the 100’s.
