Thinking About my Goals

That’s pretty good shit sir. My training when I was donw to 175 included eating an apple for breakfast, playing basketball for 3 hours, having a burger patty with no bun for dinner and running 3 miles at night.

Weights were not really in my regimen until I realized that having abs but also having an emaciated look to you isn’t really attractive (to me at least, chicks dug it… wierd).

So I pretty much have made all my gains in the last year, too, considering I’ve only been training for 1. I hope I can get to 300 on the bench sometime between now and my death lol.

You will.

Good job on the weight loss and gaining some good mass. Bench is my worse exercise also:/. I find doing heavy partials really have been helping my chest lately and keep my shoulders feeling healthy.

hahha. well i really cant offer you advice for how to get there. i just finally hit a legit 300 about 2 weeks ago. it was pretty sweet. it was just a stupid barrier for me.

just eat for it. obviously we cant be afraid of food, just have to monitor more closely than others. i am not nearly as lean as i want to be, but my numbers are going up so i dont want to mess with it…

he looks like Michael Cera

you know whats awesome for benching? everything except BB flat. like flat DB’s, Inc DB’s, Decline BB, hammer strength bench, anything but flat benching and i can put up decent numbers. i use the 100’s for reps w/ DB incline but dude i can probaly only bench like 245x8 on a flat bench lol probaly even less

Haha, Michael Cera, I’d dwarf that dude, but my face is all weird in that pic haha, I do look like the bastard. Plus, he ain’t got those shoes. But I’ll try to incorporate some of this shit into my benching. There is so much shit that it’s tough to decide what I want to do, trying to find something comfortable so that I know what I’m doing and if I’m improving. Bout to chest it up tomorow, I’ll let ya know how that goes. Hopefully somewhere between great and excellent haha.

Thanks good sir. Your legs look sick nasty. What are them bastards measuring?

Do what works for you and gets you the best gains. Play around with different tecniques and different exercises. Everyones body is different.

Deffinately. I mean there are a few things that I don’t feel comfortable doing at all that some people find to be awesome. And some things I do, like squats, lunges, leg press, extensions, curls, and calf raises on leg day might be too much for some people and their legs will grow with less, but I feel like I have to do that much to get them to grow. Thanks for the advice.

So, I got 205x5x5 today for my bench. It wasn’t really easy but I think that I probably could have done 210x5x5 so that’s what I’m going for next week. Feel pretty good though, not like I did too little 205x5x5 was pretty much exactly what I could handle today.

dont forget to change up your lifts. dont simply bench heavy as hell every week, not only will this burn you out faster but it is also not the best way to increase your bench.

shy away from regular bench for a little, do some floor presses, board work, etc. if you are truly like me, you will need to really hit shoulders and back hard. i feel like even know it is my shoulders that hold me back.

When I first started lifting, I would do flat bench, and then I started talking to this guy, huge chest and shoulders, just massive. He did no flat bench, all incline and decline. So I was like fuck, I’ll do that. So, I did, for months on end, and got nothing out of it, pretty much had to completely start from scratch flat benching. Plus, my form was so far off that it may as well not even be benching. I’ve literally only had form down for about a month lol. As far as switching it up, I switch between dumbbells and bars pretty regularly. I guess I haven’t tried a lot of the other lifts due to my lack of knowledge.

I think I need to really establish a plan and guide to follow for a chest workout… There is so much shit out there with conflicting advice, I just get a bit overwhelmed and wind up just doing what I know.

Yeah I would suggest not lifting heavy as hell every week. Definitely switch up the rep range and exercises. Personally I <3 florr presses.

well you need to find a program and stick to it. you put this thread under the bodybuilding forum, yet you mention strength more.

i cant really tell you what to do if your goals are bodybuilding, but i can say, if it is more of a strength desire, look into programs like westside, sheiko, 5/3/1, etc.

if you have time, read up some of the articles on westside-barbell.com. even if you dont choose to go that direction, it is a good read and will give you some ideas.

All your posts point to you being confused on your goals. You state you want muscular gains, but then you repeatedly talk about stronger lifts. They definitely go hand in hand, you need stronger lifts for maximum hypertrophy, but don’t try to achieve everything at once.

If strength is your main goal stick to a strength program, if hypertrophy is what you want then commit to a bulking routine. Flip-flopping back and forth will only prohibit your potential. Pick a goal, commit, train hard, and find what works for you.

I am pretty confused lol. Good observation. I’m going to the Arnold this weekend so I’m gonna take 3 days off from training, draw myself up a really good workout schedule, and stick to it. I’ll post it on Sunday night so, if you guys wouldn’t mind, you can look over it. The goal is deffinately to get bigger, hypertrophy, but I really need a lot more strength in my upper body.

Anyways, I’ll do some research on what I think I want to do, and establish my workout sched. from there. Thanks for the input, and helping me realize that my head swims in a sea of mixed feelings… (props for poetry?) haha

no prob man. i do that same shit too. i would try and find a program to do instead of constructing one on your own. most people need a little time under something more structured, then they can branch out.

i am jealous as all hell about you going to the Arnold. fuck… i want to go SOOOOO bad.

Yeah, I’m gonna look on here for a program that I can try to gain some size while getting at least to a semi-respectable strength.

I’m pretty pumped about the Arnold man. I got the 3 day expo pass and I’m going to go to the show on Sat. Who you going for?

Look for a good training partner or a coach. Someono who has been there, done that.

I have a nice bench routine that could work for you (at least strenght wise). It’s the only movement you do for the chest/triceps in the week (if you have to, add some flyies after hard session), but you do it 3 times (Mon. Wed. Fri.). All 5x5. You coul do it like this
Week 1
1st 190 lbs
2nd 195 lbs
3rd 200 lbs
Week 2
4th 195 lbs
5th 200 lbs
6th 205 lbs
Week 3
7th 200 lbs
8th 205 lbs
9th 210 lbs

As you can see, you start light (you could even start lighter - very important). You progress, and take a step back. And so on. If you can’t progress further on 5x5, you come down to 4x4, 3x3… And then you max out, take break, do some high reps and come back, because this is such a good routine!

Good luck!
