Yeah, I agree. It’s a lot more common in some parts than others. And making a few bucks on a pack of smokes is not the primary purpose of hanging out and selling loosies.

I get what you’re saying of course and I’m sure you see a lot of bullshit with people getting away with stuff so it’s frustrating. But I think part of what comes with working to enforce the law is absolutely being held to that higher standard with regards to the law. She stole taxpayer money, and lied, and who knows for how long. She should be fired, fined for that money, and given a sentence appropriate to that- even if it’s just probation. Any company that you steal from will recoup it and prosecute you. The only difference is, stealing from a private company isn’t as bad as stealing from taxpayers, IMO.
Just guessing, I bet she knew (or the Feebs thought she knew) something about someone they wanted to prosecute – and so threw everything they had at her to turn her into a cooperating witness.
Our local federales were convinced I knew about meth in the area (apparently because I am a well-off Indian, and that means drugs to them – and, sadly, that’s not an unfair stereotype sometimes). Well, I knew zero. I didn’t even know the names of the people they were talking about (although I had met them in a social situation related to horse racing).
Anyway, we got all sorts of OSHA and other investigations with people looking for crap that had nothing to do with what they were investigating. We gave them everything. And they found nothing because I run a seriously OCD tight ship, and there is nothing to find.
But, in hindsight, they were clearly fishing around to try to coerce me into lying about people I didn’t really know.
I’ve been extremely disgusted for a while.

Of course not, but I’m pretty sure she’s a felon now. And I’m not sure if she was double dipping. The actual act that she committed was giving her part time boss a ride with some supplies during her shift.
Funny you mention that. She was the someone. She butted heads with a Deputy Chief who used to be in charge of Professional Standards. I think our department was dirty under the previous Chief (he held the spot for like 15 years). The guy she pissed off knew all the dirt on everyone and initiated a couple federal cases on people who pissed him off.
I made this during a Photoshop battle with me and a couple buddies a few years back (it just popped up on my fb timeline).
TL;DR: Dolts who speak with authority without first attaining the knowledge.
So, there’s this girl…
At work who is a fucking moron. She works at one of the divisions (I work at corporate) who sends an email essentially stating a course of action ought to be taken to correct a problem that’s already been identified and the solution is currently being developed with clear plans for implementation.
She sends this email to the group of people who have been involved in the solution’s development for the past month and are aware of the progress. There are 2 of us up here at corporate working on it and we both just gave each other a look of what amounts to a tap of the nose.
Not only does she do this - stating a problem exists - but she offers no damn solution but only asks the audience for suggestions. Yea bitch, I gave the suggestion a month ago and we have already started developing it, Thanks for keeping up.

I’ve known people who seem to have made a career out of this. I used to work at a very large multinational that somehow decided to promote a lady whose only discernible skill was repeating terminology to sound competent to people who didn’t need to understand the terminology, let alone the actual work.
Running a Data Standards and Management team doesn’t require a genius, but an understanding of relational databases, field properties and basic business concepts would be a start.
She replaced a guy who was fueled by cocaine, so the bar wasn’t all that high to begin with.

Oh he got a LOT done. He worked crazy hours and often seemed to be resentful of people who did not. Not an easy guy to work with…
Meanwhile his marriage was collapsing and he was a complete wreck. But he got that promotion AND he was high on cocaine, so he had that going for him.
