Ever Had to Really Keep Your Cool?

Have you been in a situation where someone has pushed you so far, or has with their stupidity pissed you off so much, that you could have easily torn them a new one, but didn’t?

A few years ago, I was sat with cousins and childhood friends when I went back to pakistan to visit them. Conversation turned to politics, at which point they started slagging off jews, claiming that 9/11 was an inside job, and generally chatting shit about western women.

A whole load of cliches packed into one fucking room. I was about an inch away from slitting throats but somehow managed to keep my cool, and thus avert getting a beating.

It took a great deal of muscle control. More than you can imagine.

Have you had moments where you’ve managed to curb it? And in hindsight, are you happy that you did or do you wish that you could go back and smack someone?

PS. If you mention this thread as an example of a moment where you had to keep your cool, fuck you. I’ll eat your pet.

Politics + Religion = Fist fight.

A few months ago I ran into some kid who was giving my then GF problems, and somehow brought all that over to me. I’m a personal trainer so I’m up at about 4 AM every / every other day, and this kid would spam call me all through the night with restricted numbers, talk endless amounts of shit about me, talk shit about me and my (then) girlfriend, borderline stalk us, etc. etc. I normally don’t let people get under my skin, and normally am pretty level headed… But there was something about this kid that made me want to punish him…

One day me and a buddy went to a deli, and low and behold I recognize this kids quite fairy looking physique. He walks by my car not thinking I know what he looks like, and I give my obligatory macho comment, close to ‘Still have shit to talk?’. He starts running his mouth about how I’m a pussy, so I step out of my car and get in his face. I was so close to ripping this kids limbs off and beating him to death with them, but kept my cool. He proceeded to call me a “faggot” as he got in the passenger seat of his mother’s Honda Civic, as she drove him off.

Looking back on it, I wish I smashed his face in because it would’ve felt great… But the jail time wouldn’t of… So I guess I made the right choice, as hard as it was to control myself.

Yeah, when I was much younger and my buttons were easily pushed.

i have a horrible temper and i really can’t harness it well. so, no… i don’t have any examples where i held back

WELL i work at an IT helpdesk for a branch of the government and get to deal with some less than pleasent people… but its never personal

I almost got hit by a truck driver here in Taiwan, now I’ll tell you this is a little courier-type truck and the guy was small, but I didn’t want to hit him anyway…I reached through his open window with the intention of taking his keys and throwing them in the sewer, but couldn’t find them so I broke off his turn signal switch.

So I guess that’s one where I didn’t really keep my cool, but at least I didn’t hit him.

Yeah, now the driver won’t be able to signal, and may end up hitting someone.

but almost no one uses turn signals here.

Not using a turn signal is one of those things every city in North America complains about but here it would be number 68 on a list of dumb shit people do here when driving.
I just saw car/moped collision number 10 (maybe 12)on Tuesday. That’s within the 9 years I’ve been here.

Why do you live there, Nards?
Serious question.

Have you seen his co-workers? Serious question.

Come spend a week or two with me where I work, a college bookstore, and you will relearn the meaning of patience, control, and centering one’s self. The people that come in here very often are straight up morons. They try to portray themselves as the smart college student, very often a college know it all hippie, and think you are beneath them,…not realizing that between me and the other 4 guys who run the stores, we have 20+ years of university training, 4 degrees,…etc.

There are times when I have had to help someone and then walk outside and punch stuff, scream and have a smoke, and I dont smoke.

Yeah, the co-workers are great.

I teach English here. It pays well, about $25US/hour considering back in Canada I’d be fixing cars or working for Boeing or some other sort of greasy manual labor.

here’s a pic from a buddy’s birthday party. They’re part of the reason it’s fun to go to work. And the skirts they wear.

I see your point, Nards!

Let me have another glass of bourbon and I’ll post a pic of a coworker and her daughter when we had lunch.

I swear to God this double post was not due to Wild Turkey.

here it is.

The nicest thing anyone’s said to me in a long time is when her daughter asked if I had a son after she said she wanted to meet a handsome foreigner.
I take the compliments ( no matter how obtuse) I can get.

This thread is now about all the Asian pussy Nards has slain.

Sorry magicpunch, I’ll give you a “cool story bro” and we’re movin’ on.
