I think it’s only classified that way because it ends with the suicide scenes. If you really study it though, it comes off as satirical in the same way as something like Vonnegut. The whole thing is utterly ridiculous.
As far as Shakespeare goes, IMO Romeo and Juliet is his worst play by far regardless of whether its a tragedy or comedy.
Off topic to this thread but it would be way better to focus on Hamlet, Macbeth, or even Midsummer Night’s dream.
