Thib's Q&A

Thibs,

I have a question about your recommendation of ACV and cinnamon. You said not to add the acv to the shake was that just because of taste or does it lower the effectiveness?

Right now I add protien powder, BioBasics (vitamins, minerals and fiber), milled flax seed, and milk. Can I just add an ounce of ACV and teaspoon of cinnamon to that?
LOL

he did say and I can haplily confirm that ACV tastes much better on salads rather than shakes… eewww try man!

Do you just mean a natural muscle building product or something natural that closely follows the action of pregnolone?

Janda sit-Up:that of thoughts?

Wouldn’t recommend the ACV personally. Just take a swig and chase it with something or mix it in green tea or another drink. The cinnamon would work in the shake because it tastes good. Do you really think that 5 seconds difference between when you take it is going to matter (in the shake as opposed to before)? I don’t. You don’t digest food and drink that quickly.

Hi coach.

Does “volume endurance” has anything to do with muscle fiber make-up?

While following the “shredded in 6 days” WO I was able keep the same weight in the romanian DL during all 7 sets (only going down in reps, from 15 to 12), while in other exercises like the military press I had to come down to almost 50% of my initial weight (rep range 15-20). Does that say something about my fiber makeup?

I’ve also posted some questions about this program on its own thread. Should I ask them here also (in case that thread is not followed anymore)?

Thank you for your hard work. I really like how every answer is based on a logical reasoning.

Hi guys, if the coach is too busy, is there any experienced user that could answer 2 my question?

Hey Coach!

First of all, thank you for your continued service and dedication to the world of weightlifters and bodybuilders.

Now that I finished kissing your butt and thanking you for answering a question still yet unwritten, I Do have a problem I would love it if you’d address:

I recently had an accident on a zip-line up in the mountains here in Co. I broke five bones in my foot (about 12 fractures or more) and am getting everything pinned back together on Friday.

If I’m lucky and everything goes well, this may not affect my life as much as I had first been told, and I may be able to walk again in three months.

But, my question to you is how can I continue along the path to my size and strength goals while being on crutches? I know the upper body is fair game; I can still do chins, presses, and arm work.

Is there anything I can do for my already shrinking lower body? I realize leg extensions and leg curls may be my only option, but, being that you are such an authority, I thought you might have some ideas.

Thank you

Midnight

I like to pretend I’m experienced so I’ll give it a try. I’m assuming this is your question"

Hy coach, here’s a short summary of my problem, Reading the article on “Reality show mass circuit…”, do you think I can start the season with this circuit (and if you think so, how long do I use it) or do you think is better if I start with a traditional (for example 5x5) strenght routine to “adapt” my body before moving to the circuit?
Hard to say without knowing your exact goals, but I guess you want both strength and conditioning. If that’s the case, why not do both? Do one day of pure strength, e.g., 5x5, then one day of the mass circuit. In fact, if you go back to the article and scroll through the discussion threads, I believe CT had one of his clients do something similar.

CORRECTION: The article itself, not the discusion threads, shows two sample weeks of combining max strength, the mass circuit, and metabolic work.

? for CT, or everybody,

Is it dangerous or ineffective to do a floor press on a raised platform, increasing ROM?

Obviously unlike in the flat bench press, you can’t use your legs to brace yourself, and form a safe arch if necessary.

I’m sure it’s not safe when doing maximal weight training, but for a more-than-6 rep range or as the second part of a superset, is it a reasonable substitute for a flat bench press? A lot of trainees like to do one workout at home.

Thanks for your opinions,
Brian

CT, is doing 15 minutes of bike sprints followed by 15 min steady state going to be catabolic done first thing in the morning after having some whey and BCAAs?

I eat a total of 100-120g. of carbs on most days coming from 1 scoop Surge a ton of veggies, and some fruit.

I follow the HIIT with BCAAs and then a meal of usually a tiny bit of fat, some protein and some lower GI carbs like a few berries and some green beans.

Coach: I read somewhere that when on a low carb diet the body recognizes all fats as the same, is this true in regards to body composition?

Thanks Mike, I got to read again the article 'cause I missed that part.

Hey CT,

I have recently changed my PWO shake from the Protein, Glutamine, Glycine mix you recommend to 2 scoops Protein (54g protein) & 16 ounces Pinapple juice (60g carbs).

Sometimes I throw in 10g glutamine and 5g glycine. Is adding the glutamine and glycine to a carb based PWO shake beneficial?

Hi Coach

i’m trying this workout for Hardgainers

Glutamine, not really in that situation since it is mostly used for its neoglucogenic properties, which are not veyr useful when you have carbs in your shake. If your shake had less than 30g of carbs, I would see a use for it, but not at 60g.

Glycine will be useful for its cortisol-lowering properties.

No… for example saturated fats (with some exceptions) DECREASE insulin sensitivity (bad) while unsaturated fats (especially the omega-3s) INCREASE insulin sensitivity (good).

Omega-3s are anti-inflamatory while omega-6s and saturated fats are pro-inflamatory.

While all fats will have the same caloric/energetic value, the type of fatty acid they contain will have different physiological effects.

Coach I have question about exercise variation in your Beast building 3 article.

I am doing one of your programs right now that are emphasizing some of the same exercises as in your BB 3 program. Would it be okay to switch out some exercises with other exercises with equal value. For instance, I’ve been doing preacher curls and incline db curls during my current program. Do you think I can switch them out for standing EZ bar curl (for preacher curl) and say seated zottoman curl (for incline db curl?

Thanks for your help

hi
i am trying to minimize fat gain
and will start HSS-100 program
what about control days here? (i was thinking on intervals and slow cardio)

Hi Coach,
I’ve been working out for about one year now. I always did a body-split (mon: chest/back, tues: lower-body, thu: shoulders, fri: biceps/triceps) program and went from 154 lbs to 176 lbs at 6’ 2" and body fat at around 12% all the time… now i found T-Nation and learned so much new stuff that i’m pretty overwhelmed… my goal for the next 6 to 9 months at least is gaining muscles only, would you suggest to continue with a body-split program and if so which one?
Thanks a lot!

Thib,

I enjoyed your latest article on program dominance, but after reading the volume dominance recommendations they seemed to contradict your approach in the HSS program. For the HSS program you recommend a high number of sets per muscle group while also utilizing supersets and special techniques even during the intensification phases, however in your latest article you state:

“Lastly, when you’re using a high-volume approach, you shouldn’t use intensive techniques such as drop sets, supersets, and the like. This is sure to put even the freakiest genetic phenom in a state of under-recovery and stagnation.”

Have your philosophies regarding volume training changed since HSS, and if so how would you change HSS?

Would these volume dominance recommendations change according to somotype and would these also change the approach taken when using HSS?
