Thibs New Training Questions #4

CT,

do you even have any theories as to why muscle growth occurs in spurts?

Hey CT,

I just had a couple question:

1.) In your neural charge videos, I have seen you wear the VS Dynamo Olympic lifting shoes. I actually own a pair myself, bought 4 weeks ago. I used to do squats in Vibrams before, get around 295x5. However, since using the olympic shoes, my squat has dropped to about 265x3. Is this something you have seen before or normal when switching to Olympic Shoes?

2.) Secondly, the HP Mass has been going very well for me. I’ve been very happy with my progress in my body shape for past few years, however I’ve always lacked chest size and shape. On the end of Push days, would it be smart to add a circuit of flyes? Or is this too much load on CNS?

Thanks for all the great information you put out here, learning so much from you.
1. The olympic lifting shoes have an elevated heel which changes the motor recruitment pattern as well as the technique of the squat. Yeah, at first it’s normal to have a decrease in performance especially since the difference between vibrams and oly shoes is very important.

 2. No that’s fine

Nope… it just does… sadly. Same thing with strength gains and fat loss. The only thing I can say is that the body seems to work in pulses and cycles.

Coach if one is mainly looking to add size to the arms, is a specialization approach with concentrated loading 3 days or 2 days a row good for arm growth or is the other approach better letting them rest a few days and then hit them again?
When someone REALLY want to bring up biceps size I have them do some form of curl every day… two “real” workouts in the week and one curl exercise at the end of the other workouts.

Christian, what core variables do you take into considiration when and if you add HIIT to a body-builder who is removing excess body fat.

Thanks
His diet (low carbs vs. moderate carbs… don’t do HIIT if on low carbs), body fat percentage (the higher your BF, the more cardio you need), sex (females need more cardio than males) and training progress (if strength is lost, lower cardio).

Thib, do you have any alternatives to the HPMass-style upper body pressing if frequent training is not an option?
I can train only on weekends most of the time right now. How should the volume and loading be adjusted from HPMass-type protocol ?
