The War on Drugs

Yes, it’s common for fathers/sons and all around family members to drink together like that. Sometimes the drinking will start young at around 14-15 (with encouragement of the family)

It’s so obnoxious, I can’t understand why people are proud of this. Are you proud of the times you’ve hypothetically racked cocaine from various places. I would think not, the amount of energy and time we as a society put into glamorising alcohol intake astounds me. I’m not proud of any of the stupid (yet fun) antics I’ve gotten up to over the years and I certainly wouldn’t make it a talking point of initial conversation even if it were more societally accepted. It’s not something I consider remotely important, and it’s really just not that interesting to hear about that one time a while back I hypothetically took LSD on my farm and watched the sun set while listening to stairway to heaven on repeat

If there’s a story behind it then perhaps it can be interesting. I have a few stories that relate to travel, meeting new people and exploring cities overseas. Those stories can be nice to share, particularly if the vice isn’t the main aspect of the story.

Seriously? That’s actually quite hilarious if you think about it from an outsider’s POV.

“Come on son. Drink up. You wanna hang out with the cool kids or not?”

I’ve never been able to procure the real shit, actually. It’s VERY hard to find it in South Asia. I hypothetically may have tried it in some kind of combo concoction in Thailand but I don’t know what it really was. Could have been meth for all I know.

Again, I dunno man. I don’ really feel that strongly about, nor put much thought into this drinking thing. It’s just something people do. I don’t drink unless I have to only because I get nothing out of alcohol. (I think you have the same “problem” IIRC.)

That’s because you weren’t around back in the 90’s man. Let me tell you what, it was unlike any kind of weed you can find anywhere today. I saw through time and went to the rural Indiana equivalent of the Virgin Islands, which were just islands when I was done with them.

I still enjoy the smell of actual skunk discharge to this day, as long as it isn’t actually sprayed on me or my stuff.

Anyway, long story short, it’s best to avoid drugs and alcohol.

It’s another one of those substances that is or was needlessly glamorised but in reality it’s REALLY bad for you, tends to turn people into impulsive, overconfident assholes and leaves you with an empty bank account if you have the means to procure more with fast notice. Other than that I will give no comment, I suppose you were looking to try it out of curiosity.

Cocaine is quite addictive, you never know whether you’ll get away with being a “social” user or a compulsive buyer until you try it. It’s a “hard” substance and ought to be treated as one. The acceptance of cocaine as a party drug in Europe actually astounds me. It’s just bad news… It’s one of the few I think supersede alcohol in terms of consequences associated with use.

I think it’s because I’m around it on a near daily basis, therefore as it’s so enveloped within my social environment/living quarters I think about it more often

You guys should just go compete with China Persons(lol). I had to (purposefully) consume alcohol daily even on off days when I was entertaining clients several times a week just to improve and maintain my alcohol tolerance.

Are you joking? I can’t tell if you’re playing with me or not? Are you sure the cannabis wasn’t dipped in PCP. I accidentally consumed spiked cannabis like this on my second time trying it.

It is a nice and distinct smell. Though once the flower is combusted I no longer like the smell. I like the smell akin to how I like the smell of gasoline

Are you pro or anti cannabis legalisation?

I dislike the notion of alcohol being imperative to business transactions. Work and recreational drug use (also encompasses alcohol) doesn’t mix.

Well, it’s reality. You can’t change it. China clients would do shit like add sugar to a class of Chivas and make me drink it just to fuck with me and/or test out my resilience before signing contracts.

Nope. Not joking. The weed was Skunk #5 and it smelled EXACTLY like a skunk. It tasted really sweet though. Very, very aromatic with an overpowering odor, whether you’re growing it or possessing a perfectly-cured batch that’s 8 months old. You could smell it in the front door if you had an 1/4 ounce in an upstairs room sometimes. Just extremely pungent and very tasty. All bets are off if you smoke it, you will reek of this odor for quite some time, as will all of the surroundings.

It is still the best weed I’ve ever had bar none, and I’ve had a few samples of what is considered “top shelf” in Maine, where weed is legal. I really do enjoy the whiff of a not-too-near skunk, and I’ve yet to sample a strain that comes anywhere near the expertly-grown and cured skunk #5 I had access to.

I enjoy the smell because of fun high school and young adulthood weed smoking memories of some incredibly fantastic weed, which we lucked into a big supply of. It always reminds me of some of those fun times as a young hooligan.

It definitely wasn’t laced. Just really good.

Very much pro and I’ve had this position my entire adult life. It is legal where I live. I’ve sampled some great stuff but nobody who was doing as good of a strain as well as a start-to-finish product as that supplier of my youth. I don’t smoke very often these days, but I will in the right setting with the right people.

I’ve gotta admit I know balls about weed other than “it’s weed”. This shit is so hard to procure because of the laws here we just took what we could get but heroin was easily available.

Why bother with weed when you can get this! I hear heroin is the BEST; what could possibly go wrong?

Australia will get on board seventy years… after every single secular developed country has followed suit with what will presumably soon be America. Or not, government bodies here refuse to budge and give way to any kind fo progression despite landmark enquires giving recommendations in stark contrast to current policies in place. Various governments put in billions here hoping for the outcome to back a “tough on crime/harsh penalisation route”. This didn’t amount, so they ignored all advice given despite having spent billions and billions of taxpayer dollars on these enquires. We might end up more like Japan/Singapore regarding our cannabis policy… The ACT legalised it though.

We are getting worse, the government is trying to further tighten travel restrictions when citizens are already banned from travel even if vaccinated because apparently funerals off close familial members aren’t a good enough excuse. The federal govt has stated once the populace is fully vaccinated travel will still be off limits, with int borders STARTING to open by mid 2022 at the earliest. So while overseas nations open up, Australia will become a reclusive hermit nation that jails it’s citizens for leaving.

From looking at our annual budget reports our economy is being decimated by this unsustainable approach, yet our governments can’t get past paranoia and a “zero case” mentality, no matter the cost. We have aimed for elimination, and even with vaccination and all it appears our utterly pathetic and incompetent government is unwilling to alter this aim

Our government has kept parliament shut for over a YEAR, now they keep pushing through draconian, authoritative and invasive legislature. I’m looking into getting out as soon as I can and perhaps never coming back, this is not a society I want to be a part of anymore. The arguments people use to justify the government taking this kind of action are ridiculous. I’ll detail some soon, but I’m going to class now.

I assume it’ll be at least 2-3 years down the line. I can hypothetically make Aliyah, problem is I need a doctor to prescribe the medications I require to live a normal life.

The newest ridiculous law… L plate drivers (16-17) who get behind the wheel of a car without an adult may face mandatory jail sentences.

Another one… Going to new Zealand (travel bubble), then leaving new Zealand, coming back to New Zeland and quarantining there for 2-3 weeks before coming back here equates to getting 5 years in prison

Be thankful for all the good your crusty old conservatives are doing. Stopping the Marxists, preserving your 2nd Amendment rights, your right to speak freely and the right to slaughter every animal on the continent. Hit those precious conservatives over the head with enough good arguments and they’ll come around or eventually die off.

I don’t know enough about Australian politics to comment on that, but if you can somehow find some skunk #5, roll up a big ol’ hog’s leg of a joint and smoke it inside of a 1983 Cadillac Seville with a lovely and friendly gal, well, you should try it at least once.

As for the rest, it seems as though you’re beset by bad laws, unrelated to my expertise in the at-hand subject of smoking weed and hanging out around drunks, stoners, junkies and criminals in your late teens, enjoying all of the good parties you got invited to because of it. Then there was round 2 when I took a job as a dive bar bouncer in my mid-30’s. Same kinda stuff, different decade.

I’d say vote for the closest person to Donald J Trump your society can produce.

Not happening in Aus lol. Owning a gun is considered a privilege, the police/government decide for you as to whether you are competent enough to own a gun. Now I can understand why you wouldn’t want say… Someone with untreated schizophrenia owning a gun, but barring someone over stupid shit like one too many traffic tickets has me in fits of laughter due to how nonsensical such a ban is.

We do have this though. Despite strict gun laws, rates of gun ownership per capita aren’t exactly low. Hunting for sport and property defence if living on a farm are common uses for firearms. Plenty of people owned guns around where I used to live in Aus.

There are flyers promoting Marxism/socialism around certain areas of my college. It’s not something you’ll commonly see, but it exists. I tend to believe those who attend these seminars and preach such ideology aren’t aware of what socialism/Marxism actually entails… Or maybe they do yet still somehow believe this is the way society ought to be run.

Noted

I didn’t like Donald Trump. Quite a few of his policies didn’t align with my beleifs. Through anecdotal evidence and documented transactions his business practices were questionable to say the least. As an individual I abhor his vested sense of morality… Or lack thereof.

He was good for Isreal though. Even then it’s difficult to ascertain who is the good/bad guy in the Isreal, Palestine conflict. The only certainty in my mind is that Hamas needs to go and current media sensationalism paints Isreal in a overtly negative and skewed light.

They aren’t saints, that for damn sure but the “ethnic cleansing” narrative and comparisons to the holocaust I keep hearing are bogus (in my opinion).

People are jumping to illogical, emotion based responses when they see this conflict on the news. You should see the extensive anti isreal sentiment on Reddit, these guys act as if the Palestinian authority and Hamas are composed of absolute saints… So the government with a martyr fund for those who have lost family members to terrorist attacks, the government with an atrocious record for upholding women’s rights, LGBTQI rights, freedom of press, speech and religion coupled with widespread allegations of corruption is the one we should be advocating for to liberate the Palestinian people? Hamas is even worse, they abduct, torture and kill political rivals…

The Isreali government has its fair share of flaws too, but when I bring up a criticism of Palestine due to the one sided nature of the argument on Reddit I’m called a… I think it was a hasbara shill. Which means people believe I’ve been hired by the IDF to promote pro Isreal propaganda… Because apparently people are THAT fucking stupid…

Come on, what do have to lose electing a reality tv star with a limited vocabulary and who probably isn’t a billionaire? It did wonders for the US.

The news keeps emphasizing shit like babies getting killed when they should be reporting about the issues surrounding the conflict itself. While this is sad and I have no intent to make light of it, motherfucking DUH, of course children die when shit like that happens. You might as well tell me water is wet.

It’s why I can’t be bothered to read news articles about it. Half of these articles are devoted to either children getting killed or dissing Trump or BOTH before they get to anything with real substance. Yes, Trump did lots of stupid shit. Children fucking die when ROCKETS are fired at targets populated with civilians. The sky is blue. I don’t have the time nor inclination to wade through all this repetitive and exploitative nonsense.

It makes me wonder how dumb their readers are. Wtf? They think kids are somehow immune to all this shit because the movies they watch don’t show them getting killed?

EDIT:

It reminds me of 911 and the news was going on and on about, and constantly showing footage of civilians being injured by US bombs as if they were fillers because they didn’t have enough information about any real developments going on pertaining to the situation and wanted to rely on the shock factor to retain public interest. It was just cheap and exploitative IMO.

I was still in the military at that time. While I’m not making any statements with regard to US actions because I can’t be bothered to get into any exchanges about this shit, every time I stepped into the officer mess, people watching it on TV who had seen actual combat would be getting irritated and saying, “Why not show people the injured people from the World Trade Center? Show them what people look like after they’ve been burned alive. Let’s see what they have to say after that.”.

A great way to commence an addiction, during a teenagers very much formative years.

Then when presented with any kind of stressful situation, said teenager will turn to the bottle rather than a friend/family member… and a potential lifetime of substance abuse is the outcome. Very sad.

Happens quite a bit here. Even within my family I frequently see people turn to alcohol to deal with work related stress, stressful familial dynamics etc.

It’s seen as an appropriate/healthy pastime or way of mediating stress. Interesting as to how our government has demonized the hell out of tobacco but every fifth advertisement or shop on the street probably sells alcohol (and tobacco albeit tobacco can’t be advertised or displayed in store).

I have nothing against teaching an adolescent that alcohol isn’t an inherently taboo construct. So a sip of wine/a glass of a shandy at like … 14-15 probably isn’t thaaaaaaaaaat big of a deal if done occasionally. Plenty of European cultures advocate for this kind of practice and it works out reasonably well.

There appears to be two extremes. The one extreme is to demonize the subject matter, creating a taboo allure. When kids reach college they go overboard and have no idea how to self regulate. The US would be somewhat of an example, albeit the US is culturally diverse I’m going by legislature and my anecdotal perceptions.

The other extreme is to facilitate drinking as if it’s a healthy, normal past time no matter the nature of intake (Australia, UK, arguably Belgium etc). In-betweens exist, I’d advocate for an “in-between” approach. Drinking isn’t healthy and shouldn’t be treated as a normal past time. At the same time, sane consumption, even if getting a little bit drunk once in a blue moon isn’t that big of a deal to me. I have an issue with the frequent binge drinking coupled with an engrained societal mentality that alcohol consumption is okay no matter the context because it’s legal/culturally engrained.

Just woke, emotional and looking for something to be angry about

In Australia (as we know being aussies!) Tobacco and Alcohol incur excise for the producer so the government gladly accepts this payment. So it’s a ‘legalised poison’ if you will… then throw in the longer term implications/costs on our healthcare system though… (a future government’s problem, in the meantime kicking the can down the road another 4 years…)
