Fair enough, we can agree to disagree

This is a very important distinction that I hope people don’t overlook. That’s all I have to say on this subject.
Sorry… Misinterpreted this given the 2,000$ statement. In which case I can get behind this. Though in Australia we more/less have this. Those who earn under X amount of money yearly don’t have to pay tax. Taxation escalates based upon income.
I don’t quite agree with absurdly high taxation, though with “fuck you” money it probably doesn’t make a difference to the individual paying tax. With specified brackets, I don’t believe someone earning 50-75 grand/year (a cozy amount) should be taxed akin to someone making 1 billion/year.
Do I believe tax should be 50%? No… But should it be higher than the bloke earning 50 grand/year… In my opinion, yes.
I’m not particularly well versed on this topic. The end goal for me to be comfortable with any approach regarding taxation is for our state and federal government’s to acquire adequate revenue to support and build infrastructure, educational facilities, roads/freeways, housing/support for those hopelessly out of work and more. If this can be achieved under you’re proposed model I’d be okay with it.
Sorry if it came off this way. I don’t know if you will, probably not, but it eventually will probably go down this route
Then we are on the same side of this. We probably differ in how much the government should pay for and be involved but as I understand it your position is revenue based instead of purely social justice based
Also i didn’t want to have a conversation about DT but about how people on the right ostracize and condemn bad behavior and people on the left are too scared to stand up to their radicals/radical messages.
Tend to disagree, I believe this is your narrative. That being said, we probably aren’t going to get anywhere with this discussion, primarily because I’m super tired and don’t have the energy to continue this conversation (nothing to do with you, has to do with work/studies and whatnot). I know quite a few people who harbour similar ideology to you, that is “the left are the source for many of the world’s problems. The left are unhinged, unchecked and spineless”. On a topic by topic basis I’d tend to agree regarding foreign relations AT TIMES.
Otherwise, I believe this is an instilled narrative that by/large can’t be adequately backed unless one is to take certain elements from various events and conversations out of context (akin to what you’ve said people do with DT).
Actually I believe those of the autistic persuasion ought to be given 100 grand (untaxed) per year in addition to whatever they earn for… Social justice!
Moneymoneymoneymoney #justice #equality
He is a lifelong democrat. Mainstream conservative? That is a term seeking a definition.
At least half? 50%? You are either ignorant of the facts or just being silly.
That would support your assertion if there were no more than 20 conservatives.
Focus on trying to earn that much money before worrying about having to pay taxes on it.
Morality is irrelevant.
No. Fair would be they pay lower taxes and also lose their influence on public policies that affect everyone. I doubt the super wealthy would want that. What’s the point of being wealthy if you have to stand in line like everyone else?
What would Jesus say?
I think about half of the quotes here are from Unreal. I think it is a weird double quote issue in T-nation.
My sister in law had a $100, and I said she should give it to me. She asked why, and I said Jesus would want it. She said what?! I asked to see it, and asked who’s picture is on it, and she said it was Benjamin. I said give unto Benjamin what is Benjamin’s. It somehow didn’t work.
As far as taxes go, I am not opposed to a system that attempts to tax based on an individual’s disposable income. This is a pie in the sky idea as it would be difficult to implement. I would like to see that if you have more kids the block of tax free income is bigger. If you are in a high cost area, that block of tax free income is bigger.
With our (the USA) progressive tax code, I think this is achieved somewhat (doesn’t account for area, but does for children). I don’t have an issue with evaluating the current tax code, and seeing if the percentages and levels make sense.
I would not call DT a conservative. I think he is right wing though.
True, definitely made a mistake there. He’s a right winger, I’d say the equivalent of a Bernie sanders. Populist.
No, the quotes zecarlo highlighted aren’t from me
Sorry man. I was thinking it was something he had quoted from you. Not all, just a couple things I thought came from you.
I don’t think that. The left is by and large not responsible for the worlds problems. The left is spineless, I think and sometimes unhinged, but both depend on where on the spectrum somebody falls. I think cancel culture is an example of that. And again, I don’t see people on the right having the power to cancel people like the left does.
The example of MTG was brought up, where this is definitely Fact. Also, Trumps stupid comments have widely been condemned by people in right wing media and also, depending on the topic, more or less politicians. But I don’t know why everybody wants to solely focus on a man like trump who was known for talking out of his ass before becoming a politician. Trump is also not fringe. He doesn’t compare to my assertion.
I’ll give you some examples:
“ What did the bill propose?
Under current Virginia law, third-trimester abortions are only permitted if the risk to the mother’s life is “substantial and irremediable” - language that Democrats wanted removed.
The Democratic bill sought to allow for late-term abortions if the mother’s physical or mental safety were at risk .
The procedure would also have required sign-off by only one doctor, rather than the three required under existing law.” from BBC
Lawmakers and bystanders stood and applauded a law that legalizes abortion all the way up until birth, for any reason.”
USA Today 2019
These are laws instead of just support. I got to say though, Americans supporting abortion until the day of birth are ~10%. But law makers seemingly are more than that.
This law to my knowledge is already in place within Aus… what do you propose, prioritising the life of an unborn foetus over the mother? If the mother dies, the foetus dies too
Better to have one death as opposed to two no?
Yet conservatives still rally behind him. A golden statue of Donald Trump was unveiled at a conservative convention in Florida. The POTUS got away with inciting a coup, tax evasion, obstructing congress and more. Yet… the left are unhinged.
I’ll admit, the reason as to why I haven’t deviated further left on the political spectrum is due to cancel culture, forced political correctness and the likes. Objectives like zero emissions targets, finding a viable alternative to fossil fuels, rights to bodily autonomy, LGBT rights, low rates of poverty/homelessness and ensuring employment opportunities are available for those who need jobs etc are of pivotal importance to me. At the same time I believe one should be able to own a gun (within reason) provided they’re not a danger to society, I believe immigrants from countries known to have high crime statistics ought to be screened prior to immigrating to a country (Aus just let in a dude from Lebanon who married and fathered children with his 12 y.o cousin… whaaaat. We also have a sudanese/lebanese gang problem.) and I believe the Iran nuclear deal ought to be scrapped entirely
Finally, I don’t believe having a religious upbringing is particularly important, rather I believe it’s the element of community/comradery between peers via religious activities that bring people together of which is important. One can replicate this societal element absent of religion; religion contradicts itself far too much/at times installs unhealthy beliefs (guilt about sex for example) that I don’t think is healthy.
I’m not conservative, but I’m not a big old leftie either. The reasons I don’t like Donald Trump are because
I happen to actually know someone who was screwed over by DT (yes… seriously), though I’m not comfortable detailing it on here. Shoot me an email if you’re curious.
I can agree with this. It doesn’t make it correct for the left, but IMO we see plenty of spineless and unhinged behavior from the right as well. In the US, the GoP is more unified than the Dems (this is a good thing in a Machiavellian sense). There is more in fighting among the Dems. They very often don’t agree with policy from their own party. I don’t see that with the GoP (other than a few exceptions like McCain).
They just call it a boycott. I grew up in a conservative bubble. Many families in the circle wouldn’t support Target or Disney because of their pro LGBT stances.
I support aborting a pregnancy (not killing the child, that is separate in some cases) up until birth. I can’t think that we have a right to bodily autonomy (which trumps right to life in every US law), and not the right to abort a pregnancy (I believe thinking this would either be inconsistent, or special pleading).
We have gone through this though. Just thought I would chime in again.

actually… we’ve never talked about this before

@mnben87
Thoughts on Isreali/palestinian relations and Isreal/us/foriegn relations? I have fairly strong (relatively conservative) beliefs regarding this sub-topic, I’ll detail them if anyone is interested in starting this convo
Also @brickhead, is that avatar you currently? If so, you look amazing! Very lean, fantastic legs and triceps (is this sustainable?)
I’d argue it’s plausible you could step on stage (professionally) if you were to consume these special sandwiches

Here we go with the misrepresentation about DT
