It definitely is, I also like some of the songs. Her work is original and the texts are refreshing. Definitely one of the best artists in pop (?) right now. But I also think there’s not that much serious competition. Still, she’s good, I can appreciate her without liking the genre.
Agreed. He was also credited with composing most, if not all, of their songs. The drumming was a great complement to the rhythm section and had a lot to do with the general structure of some of their best works. There were session drummers during the Shrapnel Records era who could blow him away easily but some of them, like Deen Castornovo, fucked up great albums like Marty Friedman’s first solo album.
Kirk Hammett sucks.
Agreed, many people don’t account for writing ability when evaluating music. It’s the biggest part IMO. Lots of people can play a rush song. Only one can write it, and very few can write to that caliber. Now lars doesn’t compare to peart, but he is good musician overall.
No, was asking brickhead.
These guys are fantastic!!
Are you conservative though? Or split down the middle? Should be noted I’m not classically ‘liberal’, more akin to centre left/split down the middle. I find both socio-political affiliations harbour highly problematic ideologies the father left/right you go. I also find both sides when passionate and purely liberal/conservative have a tendency to virtue signal and push a ham fisted agenda as a means to come across as morally superior to their counterparts. It’s extremely irritating and I want nothing to do with it.
It’s almost as if there is no more “middle ground” you’re either a “conservative waffle” (terminology patented by unreal24278) or you’re a “liberal snowflake”.
Differing situations require differing approaches. I abide by this belief with politics. As a result the it comes to scenarios such as Isreali-Palestinian relations I’m rather conservative relating to this particular topic. I don’t feel like going into this as I have to interest in debating this/being attacked over this. I’ve done my research and come to my conclusion, it’s unlikely someone will be able to change my viewpoint here. To note, I’ve actually spoken to Palestinians about this (those who grew up on the West Bank). Generally speaking I’m never the aggressor within these conversations, but I always get snarky comments about judaism/me being an oppressor or some bullshit like that. How could I be systematically oppressing your family on the West Bank when I didn’t grow up in Isreal, nor did the majority of my family.
Get that straw-man bullshit… OUTTA HERE!!!
I’ll try to respond during the week. I’ll be busy.
I think I largely am, but it depends on the topic. The main reason I can’t vote for anything that’s even mildly to the left is because of this virtue signaling BS. I hate nothing more than people being offended for other people. I can’t stand these suckers with their fake empathy.
But it’s not just that, I am a firm believer in the 3 pillars of conservatism: small government, personal responsibility and individual rights. I also believe this only works for a moral and religious people, so there’s that.
Then there’s other things that are increasingly mainstream left with which I will never get on board: Changing the dictionary every two weeks and inventing new genders which then suddenly become sexes, so doctors have to treat you like another sex. Biological men racing in girl sports and patting themselves on the back for being so brave while smothering the competition. Then the hate for rich people, slogans always are “raise taxes for the rich!” which is just pure envy. Transgender children. Abortion until the day of birth. Women quotas. Extensive government mandated social security. Book banning. Canceling people like the bachelor host for saying something non racist about a non racist incident. I could go on as the list gets longer and longer by the minute.
The problem is that many of the normal left people don’t stand up to this radical BS. They cater to it. I see so many people on the right speaking out against the alt right but I never see mainstream liberals condemning this stuff. Maybe I would be more center if the mainstream liberals would speak out against these radicals.
I see this being apparent from both sides.
You believe only religious people can take responsibility for their own actions and cater towards respecting individualistic civil liberties? Elaborate
Here’s the thing, you’re referring to the “left wing” presence seen in media/Hollywood. Such a paradigm represents a sociopolitical faction virtually alien to the rest of us. Hollywood/media doesn’t represent reality, it’s an exaggeration.
Once again, referring to a minority. Even Australia; a country of which has a relatively lax stance on abortion only allows the procedure to be undertaken up until around 12 weeks post insemination. I’m sensing tremendous personal bias here as opposed to factual relevance.
My brother goes to a fairly “left” University and not one student has advocated for transgender/gender fluid children. Even my ultra progressive family friends/family in California don’t support gender fluid/transgender pre-pubertal children.
As to adolescence/young adults… No, I don’t have an issue with post pubertal kids being transgender, although I’d be very hesitant to allow for teenagers to take physique altering hormones (estrogens/testosterone) for the take of a sex change. The data is conflicting, forcing the teen to remain “trapped in his/her body” can result in deleterious consequences… Even suicide.
At the same time, what if the individual changes his/her mind, what if they were just a confused kid? Now they’ve got titties, stunted growth, a clitoris the size of a small penis etc.
No one hates rich people aside from perhaps Bernie Sanders (lol). There is a wealth gap of which substantiates the sociopolitical divide we see today. If you’re making 1 billion dollars per year, why not pay more tax to aid in the betterment of society? You’ll still be taking in a cool 500 mil per year.
Why not increase taxes for the ultra rich and simultaneously decreases taxes for the middle class/lower class?
As if conservatives don’t rally for the banning of pornography, video games, music videos, contemporary pop culture, any books deemed sacreligious and more. Pot… Meet kettle.
Agreed, this is highly irritating. Once again however this represents a minority of the left. It’s akin to the saying “those who are passionate tend to voice their opinion loudly”. Hence it may seem as if a significant portion of the left back “cancel culture”, yet this represents a tiny fraction of progressives. Rather the people who are radical enough to back cancel culture tend to be very passionate about their cause, as a result they consistently push this bullshit agenda, media traction ensues putting them in the spotlight and everything blows up out of proportion.
I’d argue the same to be present regarding the cult of Donald Trump, catering towards bans on media/contemporary pop culture, blanket disdain towards other ideologies and viewpoints. When you stray too far to one side the virtue signalling, extremist ideologies tend to become omnipresent.
What’s more, I find it irritating how both sides are so adament they’re “in the right”. Conservatives are SO SURE they’re righteous knights in shining armour, as are progressives. Both political counterparts for whatever reason believe their opposing parties conveyed ideologies will result in imminent societal collapse. There is no happy medium anymore, both sides are being split further apart. It appears as if people are either being driven father left or farther right. Progressives believe all societal flaws are to be blamed on conservative ideologies, conservatives believe societal flaws are a byproduct of the left… Both bodies of thought are fucking absurd.
Very few mainstream liberals support antifa/far left political factions.
Should be noted both the left/right exist on a spectrum (authoritarian to libertarian). You’re expressing disdain towards the authoritarian front of left wing and appear to fall under the realm of “libertarian/right wing”.
Left wing ideology catering towards libertarianism exists too.
I don’t know if you understood my post. My point is: all of this is becoming increasingly mainstream left. The problem is not that some few people are screaming loud but that they actually fit the power to get people fired and lose their livelihoods for saying nothing, really nothing even remotely offensive (and I even if; so what?). Why? Because the mainstream liberals go along with it. This is my point. The slight left has no defense against the far left as they are using the same tactics against conservatives.
Case in point:
Liberals call conservatives racist for decades at this point. Now comes the hard left and says that everything ending in unequal outcome is by definition racist and call other not so far left people racist. What do they do? Apologize! Go along with it. Cater to it.
Nobody on the right that I know is catering to alt-righters.
This is the exact mentality I despise. Because

Never ever in history has an increase in taxes for the ultra rich led to lower taxes for the middle class. The boundaries what constitutes rich or wealthy get pushed further down until you’re in Europe and paying 60% of your income while earning less than 2000 dollars per month. I know what I’m talking about here. This game is played in Germany since the first days.
-
There’s no moral righteousness in taking money from somebody because he earns more than you. The tax system in the US and in the EU is extremely progressive. The top 1% pay more than 50% of all net taxes. They pay way more than their fare share. And then there’s people like you who come and say let’s take even more. Why? So that government can burn even more money?
Why not have everybody earning over a threshold pay exactly the same percentage of exactly the same sources? I think that would really be fair. You earn 2000$, you pay 200 in tax. You earn 2 million, you pay 200.000 $ in tax. I think that is already more than fair.
Show me one of the mainstream liberal media guys who condemn Antifa and speaks out against them. Somebody got canceled last week for saying Andy Ngos book about Antifa is readworthy. Cancelations like this don’t happen through 5 people. It’s the mainstream who kills them.
There was a poll in the US a few weeks ago, asking how many black people got shot unarmed in 2020 in the US. Right Answer was somewhere from 11-27.
The hard left said less than 100, the slight left less than a 1000 and the center left said over 1000.
Slight conservatives said 100, hard conservatives around 10.
That should make you think again about all the equivalency you try to bring to this point. There’s no equivalence here.
Who in the hell supports abortion up to the day of birth?
Yes. To politicians.
You’re using one facet of liberals vs conservatives
… In AMERICA mind you to drive home you’re point
Ask a progressive Australian how many African Americans were shot unarmed in the USA last year. The answer will almost certainly be “dunno”.
It’d be like me putting up a poll asking liberals vs conservatives in Australia “how many illigal immigrants tried to come in through boat last year”. Conservatives will probably put up a high/skewed number, progressives will probably underestimate the true number. Same concept.
There is an equivalence, rather the end result differs depending on the topic at hand
Show me conservative media gurus regularly denouncing Donald Trump. Plenty of republican congressmen/women are Qanon supporters, there was one recently caught publically/openly touting anti-semitic conspiracy theories. It’s the same concept and this isn’t reflective of reality. MOST republicans don’t support/believe in the conspiracy theories touted by QAnon.
Yes, this is extremely irritating. Though out of all the left wing people I know (many)… I only know of TWO radical enough to parrot this BS. These two in particular seem to think everything is racist/offensive (as if people are that fragile). I was called out for making a joke about autism, to which I responded “I’m autistic, I don’t find it offensive”.
Plenty of the ultra rich earn a large portion of their income though the exploitation of others. I’m not referring to the top 1% here though, I’m referring to say… the top 0.0001%.
What’s more, I don’t think it’s morally unjust to swipe a large portion of income from that of fast food chains or companies that profit from alcohol, cigarettes or cannabiis. Depending on the scenario I’d personally support it. Directly make a profit through the misery of others? Yoiiinnnk #sadtax
Because the guy/gal earning 2,000$ can’t even afford a place to sleep, is struggling to afford food… yet this individual has to give up 200$? Whereas 20,000$ or even 100,000K out of 200,000K isn’t going to impede this individuals ability to afford housing, food, healthcare etc.
The richer you are, the more inconsequential 20-30-40 or even 50% of your basic income is.
As to conservatism being the only “solid” answer as per your theory. Where should people such as myself go? People who don’t believe in religion? Conservatism relies on retaining prior societal fundamentals, of which religion played a fairly large. At risk of offending people, whilst I believe religious scripture exists to install adequate moral fundamentals I PERSONALLY happen to believe the stories from the bible/torah etc are just that… stories, akin to a fairytale.
I could be wrong, however at this point I’ve seen no evidence to prove otherwise. If conservatism/religion are heavily interlinked (as appears to be the case), is there theoretically no place in society for “heathens”, nonbelievers such as myself? I’m not an atheist, I just don’t believe the events told within the bible/torah ever transpired.
Should note as this debate is getting hot, I harbour no ill feelings towards you as an individual and respect your conveyed ideology ![]()
People tend to get carried away during political/philosophical debate as one can infer arguing about these topics and disagreeing equates too insulting or taking a whack at core fundamental values and morals. I disagree with this notion, being conservative or progressve or split down the middle has nothing to do with whether one is a good person or not.
You seem like the kind of person I’d have a very interesting conversation with at a bar/small gathering.
Satan? (joking)
Donald trump is not fringe. He is mainstream conservative. Anytime he said some BS, at least half the conservatives denounced it. I can show you at least ten, first that comes to mind is mainstream conservative Ben Shapiro. Other politicians like Mitch McConnell did on a regular basis.
You are talking about MTG here and that is also a perfect example because every and I mean every republican denounced her words. It is something different though if you strip somebody of committee rights before they ever worked on something. For example Ilhan Omar was not stripped of any committee rights by her own party and she says antisemetic stuff all the time.
There is no equivalency here.
Good, that’s what we need. I once said to someone asking me what the job of gonvernment is “Security and the rest will be handled by the free market”, I was over exaggerating but he completely lost his shit, called me disgusting and left. One reason why I never discuss politics with anyone besides the closest people.
Agreed, it’s difficult to ascertain as to whether an individual can handle conversing about subject matter when opposing beliefs are present.
Most appear to resort to totally irrelevant ad hominem attacks. It appears as if people aren’t interested in hearing what others have to say, rather they’d prefer to metaphorically jerked off (excuse my crude analogy, but it’s correct), surrounded by those who harbour identical beliefs.
You are misrepresenting here, I clearly wrote “above a defined threshold” this threshold would be regionally different so one can afford the stuff you mentioned.
Look, with taxes it’s not about making the most profit for the state, otherwise taxes would be way lower. It has been shown that of you tax too much, like right now in the US,EU, revenue for the state will go down. Barack Obama was asked this question in 2008 “Would you increase taxes even if you knew revenue for the state would go down?” His answer was “yes because of fairness reasons”
That is the lefts position on taxes. And I can tell you something, I don’t think it’s fair or decent to take 50% of what one earns no matter how much you earn.
If I earn 1.000.000.000 $ per year and you as state take half of it, that is not right. The state didn’t work one hour to get to that point. They even hinder the most people from rising in class and then when you are earning more; they earn more and more.
None of the top ten rich people in the US are as far as I know cigarette sellers. And even if 2 of them were, then your argument is let’s tax the shot out of everyone?
How much money is moral to take if you make a billion? 999 million because hey, you still got a million? What is your point? There’s no fairness in this. Fair is, everybody above a threshold pays the same, what I could get on board with is a slightly progressive tax system, but it wouldn’t be fair nonetheless.
I also read I have to reverse myself here. Donald trumps tax plan did this and the left screamed bloody murder about it. Because it’s not about taking more from rich, it’s about taking more from everybody.
Disagreed, will add more… very busy at the moment.
I mean, he’s made numerous attempts to undermine democracy.
Don’t bother this will go nowhere. I have seen enough of trumps words misrepresented and deliberately misinterpreted. Don’t want to have that conversation again. He is mainstream, he is the second most voted for president in history. He would get at least half of the R vote if he ran third party.
