The War on Drugs

Right, there’s a black market due to government not making it a fully legal substance and/or taxing the hell out of it.

The incentives for a black market exist because of government regulation and taxes, that’s my point. Absent those things, with true free enterprise, that scenario would not exist. For example, there’s no black market for weed in Holland.

There is… it’s just very small. They have like direct to door delivery weed services

But then majority of the weed purchased is either from “coffeeshops” or grown for personal consumption

We can split hairs but it’s de minimus, if the US had a similar system it would be the same.

Well if the dems win you probably won’t have to worry about cannabis prohibition anymore, I assume the age will universibly be 21+ unless states are allowed to set individualistic ground rules. In the ACT (they legalised it there) the age to grow/consume is 18+

In which case New Zealand will follow then presumably Australia, given our politicians tend to be sheep that follow Americas every move… and there’s tremendous public pressure here to legalise cannabis, but our spineless government isn’t budging

You’d think there’d be progression, at the very least decriminalisation first… but no, I believe it’ll one day go from “outright outlawed” to “legal”

They tax the hell out of everything, what do you expect? If there were no laws then nobody would break them, that is true.

Honestly if they taxed weed and made it 30$/gram id still rather buy it in store comparative to supporting a black market dealer

… I don’t support dealing

Let’s say it was taxed comparable to alcohol. Nobody buys bootleg liquor. Can you understand that concept?

Yes they do.

Well by gods good man, it sounds like you’ve solved it. Never sleep on the Dutch!

Whoever is buying up all of the weed being grown by the Mexican Cartels in California will surely gravitate to this Dutch model.

How does that work, exactly? Forgive me, I’m a mere high school graduate. Explain it to me like I’m a child or a law enforcement officer.

What gets the cartels to stop growing weed in California?

The cartel doesn’t sell booze. So if drugs were legal and not taxes more than booze, the cartels couldn’t compete with big pharma or big tobacco ,(who may grow cannabis, coca, etc.). Simple enough for you?

Thanks for the laugh

You believe that people dont buy bootleg booze?

I’ve known lots of people that buy moonshine and have had it a few times myself.

Isn’t that potentially poisonous when not professionally manufactured?

Booze, smokes… I stated that earlier and he moved the goalposts. It’s huge here in Missouri / Illinois. Illinois cigarette taxes are highest in the country. Missouri, the lowest. But nobody is transporting cigarettes across state lines…

Yes but that’s where the fun is.

When has that ever stopped anybody from anything?

I mean, we were just talking mushrooms moments ago.

You know how many toxic look alikes liberty caps, big laughing gyms, and San Isidros have?
(I’m also a mycology hobbyist)

Last I knew some research was showing potential benefits for long term depression with psychedelics but I haven’t looked into it in a while.

I know ketamine has also shown some promise when looking at severe depression.

I seriously considered something like that a few years back.

I’m a mushroom…

But I suppose. I firmly believe unless you’re a botanist/mycologist, going “mushroom picking”
is incredibly moronic

There are considerably few cases of psilocybin mushroom poisoning’s yearly within Australia, within crude ethanol distillation one needs to filter out methanol

Methanol can make you go blind, is far more toxic/potent than ethanol… I suppose it’s cheap, available and easy to acquire though. Esp if you’re a kid and this stuff is being sold down the street…?

I don’t think moonshine is sold here in Aus, we have something called absinthe, it’s disgusting

Esketamine has been marketed for treatment resistant depression… but I can’t see this working… have you ever tried ketamine? It’s incredibly incapacitating… furthermore it increases HR and BP quite a bit at subanaesthetic dosages (and anaesthetic dosages). Irreparably damages the bladder following continual use… tis quite neurotoxic… I just can’t see it being a decent candidate
