The War on Drugs

So I’m obnoxious because I smoke weed once monthly or so… yet I’m uppity because I don’t support the legalisation of heroin?

By this rationale, a guy who drinks is uppity because he doesn’t support cocaine legalisation? I do however support decriminalisation of all drugs… not outright legalisation of heroin/meth/crack though

I dislike the sheer level of judgement I’m perceiving here.

How so… extrapolate here, what is occurring here that makes it so hard for you to be anti prohibition? Am I a threat to society because of what I do? Do pot smokers deserve prison sentences… individualistic judgement aside, look at the amount of HARM prohibition induces (incarceration/criminal records, facilitation of organised crime etc)

Organized crime says thank you.

I don’t believe we should attack his vested ideology, no matter how condescending and judgemental he initially came across as being.

I’m waiting for an explanation… if it’s a generalisation/judgement induced via preconceived ideologies I’m going to dismiss the statement.

However he is right about one thing… the very small demographic of the population that smokes all day every day tend to ONLY talk about weed, how great this “one strain is man… it’ll send you off bro. No, take a hit of this man, that shark rock will really put you into the stratosphere”… I’m sitting here thinking “who gives a fuck, it’s weed… it’s almost all the same aside from subtle differences… sedation vs stimulation etc”.

Not many alcoholics will obsess over their favourite bottle/brand of vodka…

My tolerance is very low.

It’s better this way… I dislike it when people make fun of others for being a lightweight

  • it’s not something one can control at times (genetic influence)
  • having no tolerance typically means one doesn’t use drugs/alcohol frequently, so if anything a low tolerance is a GOOD thing… being associated with “high tolerance” to me screams “heavy and/or frequent user”…

With cannabis and alcohol from the get go I’ve always had a very high tolerance. My cannabis tolerance is far below that of those that use regularly, but I can smoke an entire .5 g low-medium potency cannabis cigarette to myself (probably around 5-10% thc)… though I’ll be quite incapacitated afterwards, the avg occasional user I’d imagine would be absolutely floored.

You reallllly think the Govt; that sucks at everything, will successfully regulate your dope ?

Nowdays dope is typically slang for heroin… I’d appreciate an answer to my initial question rather than a blatant acceptance of the current “alcohol, an inherently more harmful substance when abused is fine… but cannabis is the devil”

Why is it so difficult to be anti-prohibition.

I rarely smoke anymore (total lightweight) but it’s legal where I live. I know plenty of people who do though, especially from bouncing.

I think it depends on how you measure success. Here in Maine were only talking weed, so not all that much is at stake if they don’t get the policy right.

What we have here seems to be a case of the legit market getting by while the black market continues to thrive. It’s not like legalization dried up existing supply chains, after all. Right now I could get top shelf weed from a legal dispensary for $10 per gram. I could also get a similar product from a black market dealer for $5 per gram.

A few more taxes placed by the state would likely sink the legal weed business. It’s just too easy to grow and sell without bothering with silly things like regulatory compliance, labor compliance or paying a cent of taxes.

I’d ban all of it were it up to me. The beast that’s the booze industry is far too massive at this point to reign in. Millions of people would lose their jobs too. Marijuana isn’t on that scale. Not even in the same universe yet.

Watching people destroy their own lives and those of others that had no hand in their personal decision to imbibe; drunk driver killed my 12 year old cousin Melissa when she was 12, shouldn’t be accepted no matter the choice of drug. I don’t want your decision to smoke dope, shoot dope, snort dope, inhale dope, suppository dope, drink until you’re too impaired to make proper decisions, etc… have any affect on me or mine or any innocent person.

I’m very sorry for you’re loss, seriously… that’s terrible

Though marijuana is comparatively less destructive comparative to booze. You also need to remember this “banning it all” is farcical, regardless of rules people do this shit anyway… what’s the best way to go about minimising the harms induced by use. Optimally, these intoxicants wouldn’t exist in society, just as cancer wouldn’t exist… congenital abnormalities wouldn’t exist etc

Yeah that’s why I called that out as a possibility.

As a weed historian, how much of that (in bud form, obviously) do you think it would have taken to give you a psych trip like Brick?

Maybe I have an absurd tolerance and surround myself with those that do lol.

We were the same age. Destroyed her parents. That was 30 years ago now.

Thanks for the kind words.

In an optimal, idealised conceptualisation of what society should be… ill health, intoxicants etc wouldn’t exist, unfortunately this isn’t the world we live in… as a result, fucked up shit like

this happens. There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel whilst impaired (in my opinion), those who kill others under the influence deserve life imprisonment. I dislike the argument of “but he was on drugs”… I’ve used drugs before (cannabis, alcohol psilocybin mushrooms, I’ve tried tobacco etc), I’ve never driven/started fights (actually I smoked a cigarette whilst driving once… and I don’t smoke, gave me a massive head rush… probably wasn’t the smartest idea). There is no excuse for misconduct that harms others, under the influence or not…

A couple puffs of Skunk #5 did it for me the first time I tried it. That stuff was incredible. People lined up to pay $50 an 1/8 for it in the mid 90s.

What is this? Some magical special farcical cannabis? (not an insult, just curious… I’ve been to Amsterdam and I’ve never heard of this)… I went into like… four different coffeeshops too

I’ve tried the stuff they sell as recreational product within Calofornia twice… it’s terrible… too strong… awful… I was incapacitated from two drags…

Haha to me this would mean things (unlaced) were even stronger back in the day. I’ve had 3 varieties of skunk that I can recall.

Big yikes. Biggggggg yikes

This is what I pay for an 8th of ditchweed… Though a quarter I can get for 70-80. Back in HS (So… last year) my group (about six people) would go through a quarter like every 2-3 weeks… Jesus Christ, it was so lame… (in my opinion)… we got nothing done when stoned… we’d sit around a fireplace (on my farm) at night, put on some music (my preference was like… deep purple, Aerosmith, Stoned Jesus, led zeppelin, king gizzard and the lizard wizzard etc) and just giggle about stupid shit for hours. Did this about once every second Saturday or so… That being said, I don’t regret these experiences, they were very, very fun

The farmland is big enough so that we wouldn’t get caught

Though this will last me many months (an 8th)… I usually end up throwing it out after a while

I’d put that particular skunk strain up against anything I’ve tried in the last 5 years or so, and my tolerance was certainly much higher in the 90s.

It’s also by FAR the most fragrant weed I’ve ever had. They didn’t call it skunk for nothing. If you had a few grams in a ziplock ANYWHERE in your house it would be apparent as soon as you came inside. One of my more memorable encounters with law enforcement involved the odor.

It was the Summer of ‘98 and we were angling out at the growers house where he foolishly threw a huge party the night before. For some reason the county sheriff came by THE NEXT DAY. There were only five of us there playing basketball out front.

Long story short, the cops kept asking to come inside, saying they smelled weed.

“Nope. Clove cigarettes.”

“Show me the warrant” was said about 10 times.

“Do two cars and five people look like a party to you?”

I’m very pro cop overall, but teenage me sure got a kick out of watching the cops get stuffed in the face of obvious weed odor.

Edit: it’s also worth noting that letting them in would have resulted in many felonies for my friend, who did nothing wrong.
