The War on Drugs

Regarding an earlier post on the Phillipine drug war… I was looking at statistics of use, there seems to be a slight decrease in usage rates… but vastly organised drug networks, the amount of shipments pertaining to methamphetamine going in and out of the country have remained unchanged

I should state there’s a huge difference between oral methamphetamine hydrochloride (desoxyn, a prescription medication that I personally believe should’ve been phased out years ago but it nonetheless still available) and crystal meth… crystal meth is far more potent/damaging

The death toll from the Phillipine drug war has been enormous, potentially up to 75% of Thomsen consisting of civilians. The war is lawless in nature, an execution is allowed over suspicion (think Salem Witch Trials) so police brutality/corruption and personal vendettas can lead to executions

The Phillipines is currently ranked as the fourth most dangerous country in the world due to this war on drugs currently present. I personally don’t think it’s the right answer, given there are still millions within the Phillipines (statistically) that still use drugs

Yeah, the way they are going about it is messed up and I saw stuff where people are killing their enemies and planting drugs so that there is no investigation, things like that. Anything where extrajudicial executions become the norm is a recipe for disaster, but apparently things were real bad there before Duterte came along. Also El Salvador, formerly the highest murder rate in the world, new government had police killing gang members on sight and now crime and murders are way down. It’s fucked up and against all international norms and human rights, but desperate situations call for desperate measures.

Anyone who believes that any drug should be illegal is a retard. You’re just enriching organized crime. If drugs, gambling, and prostitution were all fully legal organized crime would be bankrupt and scrubbing toilets for a living.

I don’t believe all drugs should be LEGALISED… for harder substances I advocate decriminalisation, perhaps government mandated programs designated to handing out said chemicals to addicts beyond all hope (so long as they can still holding down a job, contribute to society in some way, shape or form)

I wouldn’t say “retard” either, everyone is free to have their own opinions here, but attacking the credibility of others based on you’re own harboured ideology is not a good way to get you’re point across

My father would agree with you. Whilst he is what you would consider right wing (Trump supporter… somewhat, still thinks he’s a clown though) he believes (for you’re exact same reasoning)

  • facilitation of organised crime
  • government revenue
  • incarceration
    Etc

That all drugs should be legalised, when I press him regarding “what about heroin/meth” he tells me it’s a very complicated subtopic… what to do with these harder drugs, still advocates legalisation though, whereas my brother and I disagree with this

My brother despite having never used anything besides alcohol (to intoxication) believes in cannabis legalisation and overall drug decriminalisation on the basis of a harm reductionist approach. When I approach him regarding the legalisation of MDMA/psychedelic drugs he states “I don’t know enough about them to make a comment”

Though I wouldn’t want to argue with him… he’s skinny as a rake, tall… but extremely aggressive, he will get up in you’re face, shout loudly (he appears to have an issue with aggression)… It’s a shame, he’s very weak… I worry one of these days he’s going to get punched (I think he will). I’ve warned him about this, his response is typically “go ahead, punch me… see what happens”.

When we were fifteen I did… in fact, lose my temper and punch him… he literally flew about ten feet, couldn’t breathe… then started screaming at me whilst we all went into a resteraunt for a meal… made a huge scene, swearing and shouting… everyone was looking

He isn’t a bad kid at all, just has some issues when you piss him off. I worry he’s going to get beaten up one day and I won’t be there… he will be defenceless at 5’11 55kg, skinnyfat etc

EXTREMELY intelligent kid though… one of the smartest I’ve ever met

When arguing with him I typically back down quickly if he starts shouting… it’s not worth how condescending and nasty his tone becomes…

Thanks.

So let me ask you this. Where in article 1 section 8 is the drug war authorized?

I’m super behind on my PWI reading due to work lately, so I’m 100+ posts behind in this thread, and have every intention of catching up because it’s an interesting discussion point.

Fun anecdote. 7 years ago, in college, I had my wisdom teeth taken out (impacted, so knocked out for minor surgery). After the first few days my right side developed dry socket, which doesn’t really do anything except hurt like a SOB and force you to use that stupid syringe to rinse it out more often. I walk into my oral surgeon’s office, and the Dr met me in the lobby with his RX pad, as I had called ahead that the generic tylenol 500s they gave me weren’t doing shit. He write me a script for 40 Vicodin on the spot.

4 days later I caught myself about to take one, not because my mouth was hurting, but because my 8 hours were up since my last dosage. Freaked out and flushed the rest of the bottle and sucked it up.

Back home in WV, Dr driven aspect of the epidemic still shines in a few areas. It’s not hard to find out what part of WV you need to hit up for ‘more lax conditions’ to get a script.

It’s 2020, not 2030. We’re a decade away (minimum) for starting to give Drs less shit for their part.

This kind of shit just forced people to pay attention when prescribing.

It’s called being crossfaded.

It’s very very likely you had laced pot. The amount you’d have had to smoke of clean 1997 bud to get psychedelic after that would make me uncomfortable.

That being said, you could also have any number of differences in your brain chemistry that made that a YOU response, instead of bad pot, so staying away is probably a safe bet.

I was the malt liquor kid in HS. OE, St Ides, King Cobra, Colt 45.

Edgy

Did you want to address anything I said? I’ll ask the same thing I asked the other gentleman: where’s the flower war authorized in article 1 section 8?

Actually now that I think of it… there’s a decent possibility I’ve had laced pot three times… twice with hashish (same batch)… the other time the PCP story… it was extraordinarily psychedelic from .2g or so. The time when I was tipsy and experienced “environmental distortions”… I don’t like talking about this shit because it’s incriminating and I don’t wish to be judged… but I was almost caught with said hashish, I wasn’t entirely sober… so I ate the rest (about .75g)… a very strange ensuing 8-10 hours followed, the substance wasn’t even deoxycarbolated… though sometimes during the hashish manufacturing process I believe heat is used… the trees around me were wiggling around… had some very strange spontaneous sensations. I know for certain the first time the substance was laced with phencyclidine, the experience regarding the hash was very different in terms of feeling… but didn’t feel like cannabis… I wonder what it could’ve been?

I don’t smoke much anymore, but towards the middle/end of high school I fell in with a crowd that smoked frequently… so I’d typically do it on Saturdays provided a test wasn’t coming up (so probably every second Saturday… but not at all for the last six to eight weeks of school… I regret this, as it led to my last year of school (in terms of what I did outside of school) being relatively boring, unproductive… I have no problem with smoking cannabis, so I didn’t mind… Just thought it was boring, didn’t understand why we couldn’t go bowling, catch a movie, go on a hike or something fun… Made a very good friend through this group though, but I couldn’t see what he saw in cannabis… I just didn’t/don’t get it

Unrelated to pot I ended up not taking school all that seriously, doesn’t matter… I got into biomedicine regardless (that was my goal, I didn’t bother sacrificing my entire life that year in order to get into medicine undergrad… considering I’m not even 100% sure that’s what I wanted/want I didn’t see the point)

It’s an interesting feeling. Though probably not one I’ll experience anytime soon given that I don’t really drink anymore.

What does any of this mean? Is this booze? Drinking during school time is incredibly detrimental, I got drunk during the schoolwork once when I was still in high school (I’m still jewish), so around Purim I showed up for the party… EVERY single secular jewish teenager gets smashed here, the Torah states " One must drink on purim until that person cannot distinguish between cursing Haman and blessing Mordechai"… it’s literally a blessing to binge drink… the ensuing hangover was so bad (and how far I went that night) it caused me to not touch a drop of alcohol again for six months.

I no longer live in America, but I assume you’re talking about powers granted to congress… the drug war isn’t authorised within article 1 section 8… what are we talking about? The drug war has and will always be a failure, inducing farm more harm than it does good. Cannabis prohibition was initially based upon racism/hatred of immigrants (look up Harry Anslinger)

Anabolic Steroids… at the time of scheduling the WHO (if I recall correctly), FDA, Congress etc opposed the ban.

It means I brought 40oz to parties.

How much is that? Is that a lot?

In litres how much? I hear that slang every now and then (in Archer, pam states she’s drinking a “40” a few times…) I always thought she was referring to a beer, though perhaps one of the slightly larger bottles

It tastes good and I have one occasionally. But not 40 Oz!

Blech… I’m a Miller Low Life drinker now. Or Sam Adams. Or Coors…Busch… Pabst (fucking hipster scum) Stag

About 10 inches tall and really large diameter

I wouldn’t go that far…

Hi. I’m twojarslave, weed historian.

While pot has undeniably gone up in both average potency and availability since the ‘90s, it was still possible to get weed that is every bit as potent as today’s “top shelf” strains you find in the dispensaries.

Nobody was slinging this in your typical flyover country high school but if you had connections to growers or lived in/near a major metro area (like @BrickHead and I) you could get the good stuff.

Skunk#5, Jack Herer, Northern Lights, White Widow and a lot of other good genetics we’re available to me in the 90s.

It’s quite possible Brick was/is just a total lightweight who wouldn’t last two hours hanging out with those Indiana boys on an Indiana night.

Don’t know what any of this is. Here we have VB, Coopers etc

How does… no name strains sold with leaves/stems in a plastic/brown paper baggie sound? I actually prefer this… less potent… less incapacitating

Though I don’t really buy cannabis anymore.

Like my sophomore year of high school.

This thread reminds me how hard it is to be anti-prohibition. Especially when it comes to marijuana. Marijuana users tend to be about the most obnoxious users of any intoxicant(not as a result of marijuana, as far as I can tell). I’m not sure any marijuana supporters support even decriminalizing all substance, so they come off as uppity.
