The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 2)

Probably?

There’s no doubt.

Very few reach his level of enlightenment, and the fact we have not hurts our feelings.

Note that it’s a white guy saying this. He has the privilege to explain to black people how they should feel.

That’s not privilege; it’s superiority. Blacks should just be thankful a man of such intellect is on their side.

I guess I’m too dumb to have taken offense.

Correction: You(and I) are too dumb to have known we took offense. That’s why we must wait for enlightened folks like him to let us know why we don’t support certain things.

There it is, I can feel my fragility starting to crumble.

I am in the middle of a book by Luther Standing Bear, who was part of the last generation of Lakota people to live “traditionally,” going on buffalo hunts and living in tipis, stuff like that. He wrote that it was a given that most people woke up at sunrise or slightly before. To still be in bed by mid morning was considered lazy and was looked down on.

I guess he missed the memo that the practice was racist.

Hopefully this link works (linking to IG reels seems iffy here).

For those that thought the Florida book ban would only affect “explicitly sexual” material.
These massive bins of books are being removed from public schools in Florida.

Edit: link didn’t work but apparently you can generate a QR code now

Books removed include ones on: black people in aviation, Lewis and Clark, Presidential speeches, nazi history, Pocahontas, and more.

This is how you get dumbass adults…start it at childhood.

This reeks of Jussie Smollett level bullshit. Libraries get rid off books that aren’t being checked out all of the time. Considering the teachers unions are strongly democrat, they have an obvious motive to attack Desantis with rage bait like this. And if the liars who posted this get fired, that’s just more rage bait for people to jump up and down about.

Most of my four year old daughter’s books are former library books. I promise you nobody banned “Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros?” or “Where the Wild Things Are.” And yet, at some point, a school library sold off those books and hundreds of others that I scooped them up cheap off Ebay.

“ A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” When this gets debunked will you post the counter argument too, or just move on to the next thing?

Are you in Florida?

It’s definitely happening. Teachers aren’t allowed to have in classroom libraries anymore (source: my kids attend public school as do our friends kids)

They aren’t just purging those books to simply be rid of them.

It’s not the teachers pulling these books out of the libraries as some weird ass form of protest.

If it gets debunked I can post a retraction (as I have done for other of my posts). This one video is not an isolated incident.

I will give you that maybe they are exaggerating as these may be books that need to be “vetted” by the state law (which really just means “deemed okay” by a bunch of DeSantis appointees in line with his agenda). But take that thought further based on the images in the video. Why would you need to vet a book full of past presidential speeches, or a history non fiction book on black aviators? Nothing controversial about those topics (or at least I wouldn’t think unless you are raging racist).

Bro, everyone in that video strikes me as being a Republican voter.

If you don’t think dumb shit is happening in Florida that goes against the US constitution this was a legitimate bill that was proposed in the Senate (thankfully it died)

Basically, if you write a blog post about a Florida elected or appointed official and your blog generates ad revenue - you would have had to report that to the government or pay a fine. Clearly and impediment on free speech.

I wouldn’t trust or believe a single thing that guy says.

I don’t live in Florida. That’s irrelevant to my evaluation of this video. Here are some screen grabs from the clip:

Doesn’t look like a hateful right wing book ban. Maybe these books haven’t been checked out in years. It’s nearing the end of the school year, maybe this library is being prepared for renovations. Lots of possible benign explanations.

If this wasn’t happening in more than one location I would probably agree with you. Usually when libraries get rid of books they replace them with new ones. I doubt that will happen too.

My son is in high school and they removed 75% of the books from the library there. There are no plans to renovate that space any time soon and they definitely aren’t ordering the amount of books they have removed to take up the space.

I don’t trust any single person either, but this is one of many videos from across the state.

It’s Florida, they’re replacing them with coloring books based on the Bible.

Yeah. For me, seeing is believing but seeing a video and seeing firsthand are not the same.

Especially with everything being emotionally supercharged lately.

We’re in the age of weaponized confirmation bias.

White fragility in action!

I blame this entire era on that blog from back in the day- “Stuff White People Like”.
