Your new avatar brought some questions to mind. Found your vid it was from. I start in the up position and do them as squats. I can see where starting them in the down position would be a lot harder. I also watched some by a Matt Hastie doing 405 for reps. He’s doing them from the floor but almost as a GM. Using much more lower back. I’m so confused. Not really, think I’ll try them both ways. Matt Hastie is a mutant with a steel-belted spine tightly wrapped in kevlar, kinda like that Wolfertine mank with the claws.

I noticed from your avitar that you use some sort of padding for the Zerchers. What are you using? Thanks,

Just an old kitchen carpet doubled over - spreads the bar pressure a bit without making the bar diameter too large to hold. I like having the imprint of the pike in my forearms.
I actually need to get a pair of elbow sleeves, but I’m cheap.

The “pass-out” pad on the wall is a nice touch also. Bad ass as always.

I took it too far the last two sessions and went out of the sweet zone. I can tell after tonight’s training that I’m going to have to take it easy on Zercher’s day after tomorrow and maybe just take one single. Might just blow it off and do the 5’s set only. Incline bench is still in for full ride. I want to save something for full conventional deads 2 days after that anyway.
I put 4 plates on last night for the squat, got scared looking at them and took 1 of them off each side, replacing them with 35’s and a 5. Is that ridiculous or what? I need more mental rehearsal so I quit getting freaked out. Happened on the MP’s too. Totally bugged out on a weight just 5 lbs heavier than what I’d just doubled.

Frickin’ head case, I am.[/quote]
Put 5 plates on and then take off 1
Or have someone who knows how to lift and train load the bar for you and you just train.

Not a bad idea. If they start growing any of those guys 'round here I’ll definitely do that. I’m wedged in tight with the Kurls n Kalves Krowd unfortunately. There’s one bodybuilder that works the desk, but his form is so atrocious on EVERYTHING that I have to leave the room to keep from smacking his eyeballs loose. Oh - and I’m bigger, stronger and 2 times older than he is, too.
Mental barriers can be tough to break. One of the guys I trained with just broke 405 on the bench for the first time a few weeks ago, it had taken him a year. Now he is already at 440.

I have known quite a few like that. I mean, I am all about grooming, and am not a fan of back hair, hence my ‘nair for men’ addiction, but arms/chest/legs? He is looking at a lifetime of getting crabby whenever it gets a 1/4 inch long…

I am the same way. If I could get my head out of it all my maxes would probably jump 20#.
