I have a katana sharpened to cut paper better than a pair of scissors. plus the real soldog: a lab, husky wolf mix with a voice that will rattle your bones. The guns haven’t been out of their cases for years.

So there you go: Throw the dog at the intruder, put a piece of paper on the gun box and cut it with the katana, then attack the intruder with the sharpened piece of paper.

Funny DCA, that arrow is pointing right at you …
And it is still apropos.
I don’t own any guns - spouse has a phobia. I will, however, flip a couch onto - and beat to death with a cheap dvd player - anyone who would enter my house unexpectedly.
Some projectiles aren’t as fast as others, but they’ll get the job done.
I hear those 2.5 and 5 pounders throw pretty accurately and distract them long enough to use the bar appropriately…
I threw a 4 kg dumbell at a burglar one time as he was leaving the apartment I was living in in Japan. Hit him, too, but he got away. I think a gun is much more effective.
An effective tool of divorce in my case, although it might be worthwhile testing that boundary at some point. MEANING that my wife will not stay in a house where there’s a gun, smarty clown, not that I will shoot her.

My wife was almost to that point…terrified of them. That didn’t work well, since she married and ex-cop and into a family that had…well…a few firearms here and there.
One holiday, while visiting family, we all went out to a range (I used to be a firearms instructor, as was my Dad), and we let her shoot a .22 pistol…then a .38. Then SHE WANTED to try the .45. When she saw my Mom (all 5’1", 100# of her) shoot the .44 Mag, she wouldn’t let herself be outdone. Funny thing with my Mom and the .44 Mag is that someone had to stand directly behind her whe she shot it. She is so small it would knock her on her backside. Someone had to play backstop.
Long story short, we still have guns and she has adopted one as her own. It was amazing the difference being shown how to safely use one,and the fact that it wouldn’t jump up on its own and start capping folks, made in her view of them.

Really?
Let’s do a calculation of overhead press as a percentage of body weight…

see, now this is just mean. just because you can military your body weight, and I can only do half of mine… Are you making fun of me for being fat, or for being weak?
Don’t mind me here. I’m just munching on popcorn and enjoying the show…
I woke up ravenous today, which is very a good sign for me. I think I’ve hit the sweet spot on volume for the time being, wherein I stimulate the muscles to grow but don’t overdo.
My abs hurt pretty good from yestiddy.
That was a pretty serious pulling day…
So I’m heading out tonight to get that heavy duty bench.
100 miles round trip but the bench is only $25 - $35 if you count gas. I think it’s a good deal, though I’ll really know when I get there and futz with it.

My New best friend

Another view. Does this count as powerlifting pr0n?
yay for new toys!! ![]()
Nice catch, DCA. Looks like it will hold you for at least a little while…
I hate you
more you for the rack.

Nice bench!
I assume the bench declines? Let me know what you think of the height and how it affects bench performance.

Nope. I don’t have much use for declining benches. Dips work better. The bench is about 20" high. I was hoping for something a little lower, because I think I could get a better arch on such, but the height will work fine. The seat is thinner than the old bench and the foam a lot sturdier so it’s going to be more comfortable. The main thing is that it will last for years and won’t flex when I press. The other one was bowing when I’d actively press and I think it’s only rated for 400 lbs. I can hide under this one during an earthquake.

Cycle3 Wave 2 - Bench
Bench Press
barx15
135x5
185x5
200x3 (paused)
215x3 (paused)
225x8 (PR +1 rep)
Close Grip 2-board press
225 5x3sets
1-Arm DB row (strict)
125 6x4sets
Better session than I was expecting as I was feeling somewhat drained… Really didn’t feel like getting a PR but I just kept going. The last rep was slow and the right arm started drifting, but I got it.
is this all on your new bench?
you bastard.
you garage is looking like a jack lalane grave yard of stuff.
nice work.

That’s some nice benchin’, Mr!
