I need to get another set of 45’s that aren’t angled. The Iron Grip plates are sturdy, but they’re a bitch to deadlift for reps with. A set of bumpers would be perfect, but don’t fit in the budget right now. I’m going to have to jerry-rig something with cinderblocks and platforms so I can have the bar sit still when I set it down and still have it at the right height…

I’ve been thinking of buying some bumpers. I searched around on the 'net, and found some fairly inexpensive bumper plates. Are they all a standard diameter? I think I read somewhere that one of the brands were all slightly larger than a standard iron 45# plate.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s the case. I hope I’m wrong. I know that 45lb Olympic plates come in many sizes as I have some different brands myself. It may be that bumpers conform to some international standard, though.

How’s that for a definite maybe?

the bumper plates that i have are probably a 1/4 of an inch bigger than regular 45’s. if you are in the market for a couple, i think i could swing you a pretty good deal. i have connections:)

Cool. Okay if I hit you up in about a month? Got a big vacation trip to pay for, but after that I’d like to get summadoze.

For this first day of the deload wave I’m choosing to do…

Absolutely nothing.

Nah - I’ll do bench tomorrow. There’s just literally no time today…

5-21-2009

Found some time after all…

Cycle 2, Deload Wave
Bench Press

Bench (5 sec eccentric w/pause)
115x5
145x5
160x5
170x5

Close grip Bench (touch above nips)
135
15x2 sets

DB row
105’s 8x2sets

Right triceps rebalance work

Done-O

Was going to do three sets of DB rows, but they felt heavy so I stopped at 2. It’s a deload cycle, after all…

Looks like a perfect deload, Skid.

Following the prescribed protocol - with my own little idiosyncratic twists, of course.

I am still feeling fragged after wave 3. I’m going to have to squat today as I won’t have time over the weekend and I think I’m going to keep that stupid simple. I can feel my body wanting to make new muscle - just gotta give it the calories.

perfect timing, deload during Whiskey Weekend!

Cycle 2 Deload Wave
Squat Day

Squats
135x5
210x5 (forgot to put a 5 on one side)
230x5
250x5

Front Squat
205 5x2 sets

Everything felt heavy, but got easier on the last set of back squats. Really trying to keep form and not just get the weight up.

And your form is improving!!

Who knew about those pesky elbows, right? sheesh…

Periodic insatiable hunger?

Exactly.

Unfortunately, I don’t drink, so I guess I’ll just have to substitute sex…

Sex has many beneficial qualities after a good lifting session.
Not to mention all the fun ones.

sadly, thats why I drink…

You go from pumping iron to laying pipe. (or, widdling wood if you’re alone…)

Sex has many beneficial qualities, period!

2009-5-24
Cycle 2 Deload Wave
Military Press

MP
barx15
100x5
110x5
120x5

Pullups
BW 6x4sets

seated DB press
55s 8x2 sets
55s 20x1 set

Light is right. Where I kept close to previous intensity, I dropped reps.

Feeling really tired. Everything went up ok but it’s harder than it ought to be.

Sounds like the deload came at the right time!

I don’t drink (much) or get laid. Jesus. It’s no wonder I’m kind of bitchy.

Wife is out of town this weekend, so I lose there, too. Drinking lots of coffee and watching Monty Python reruns is a piss-poor substitute, I must aver.

Glad you got your deload. I just did my scheduled rest and reset my baselines this week. There are times that it just needs to be done. Today I was just trimming trees, cleaning up the yard and now off to the garden shop after a good shower. Lot to be said for a good shower.
