The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

Speaking of mental health issues, I’m genuinely sorry you have them. I hope you didn’t think I was making light of them and I would never claim to know what actually having them feels like because I’ve seen my relative do unbelievable things that I simply cannot fathom no matter how hard I try to.

All I know is that it’s the illness, which has somehow been increasing in severity over the years although everyone says it’s supposed to get milder with age, that’s causing him to such things due to a severe chemical imbalance and this was enough for me to take even clinical depression very seriously as I know it’s also caused by a chemical imbalance.

My previous posts pertaining to this subject were about how Hollywood makes absurd movies to cash in that do not reflect the reality of such illnesses.

If anyone here has Netflix, and likes kind of slow burning stuff, Criminal UK is a very good watch. I’ve shown it to three or four different groups of people at this stage and they all loved it. It’s a series about police interrogations set entirely within an interrogation room. They usually have a very strong actor as the interviewee, the first episode is David Tenant but there’s one with Sharon Horgan that’s excellent too

So I went and rewatched The First Purge. It’s one of those “so bad it’s good movies”.

A new political. ultra right wing party called “The Founding Fathers” has emerged victorious over reps and dems. This is amidst a major influx of immigrants, a second housing crisis and mass jobs losses and poverty.

When you get people to make politically driven movies, at least get people who can do basic math and shit. How the fuck does a 3rd, ultra right wing party manage to win especially when there’s a major influx of poor immigrants whom are eligible to vote amidst another fucking bigass economic crisis?

It would cause a dilution of voters within the republican party and wouldn’t even get votes from swing voters. That would lead to a complete dem walkover.

I get that they’re commenting on the (perceived) state of the rep party because of Trump but, come on, don’t go full retard.

And that’s what they do throughout the movie.

The protagonist is a major non-melamine deficient drug dealer whose guys fucking sell drugs to kids on the streets.

The NRA is supposed to be the heaviest sponsor and lobbyist of the new party. Alright, fair enough. Gun control. Let’ see where this is headed.

The first Purge is done as an experiment at a place called Stanton Island to see if really does what the prior movies claimed it does - reducing crime rates. I don’t know anything about that place.

When the Purge starts, the places goes under lockdown and the protagonist and gang only save the day because he has a fucking massive armoury of illegal weapons stashed away.

That’s right. They’re commenting on gun control, with one of the reasons against it being the right of a well organized militia right to bear arms in the the event that there is a need to combat government tyranny, while showing a well organized “militia” doing so. Gang. Militia. You can’t even claim I’m playing with semantics here.

With illegally obtained weapons.

Ok. Minor shit. I can let that slide.

But, now, tell me what the fuck would be the real reason a major drug dealer has these stashed away for?

Are you seriously trying to make the argument that average citizens shouldn’t be allowed to own firearms to defend themselves while simultaneously showing that these fuckers who sell drugs to kids on the streets and engage in gang wars are able to easily procure an arsenal of bigass ones illegally? Fuck off lol. I don’t really have any opinions either way with regards to gun control but you’re really shooting yourself in the ass with this.

Then they try to justify this by showing that the government actually planned this shit and attached body cams on volunteers taking part so they can control the narrative in the media. What they don’t show to the public are the government deployed mercenaries AND White nationalists gunning down massive amounts of the poor whom aren’t involved because they can’t afford to support the welfare system anymore because they can’t raise taxes anymore for the rich.

Fuck. You have another housing crisis that’s “even worse” than the previous one, which would imply even a significant proportion of the former middle class are now living below the poverty line, and you’re also implying that the “rich” are the ones keeping them in power?

And it STILL doesn’t explain the fucking NRA shit.

And it would make more sense logically if the rep party was already dissolved or evolved into this current party and lots of people actually KNEW they were thinning the herd this way so their own standards of living can be raised and chose to turn a blind eye if you actually have BALLS and you wanna push the idea that the inevitable development of the political spectrum was moving heavily to the far right, especially in terms of racism and unfounded glorification of exceptionalism/elitism with such a premise. Harsh and nihilistic to the extreme. But at the fucking least logical while also making a further commentary on the extremes people will accept for self preservation.

They end the movie with one character asking, “What do we do now?” and gets the reply, “Now we fight.” What the fuck are you fighting for? The right to bear even more advanced firearms since most of your guys were EASILY taken out by armed drones?

You think posting angry shit on twitter is going to prevent the kind of extreme shit that you’ve already established is going on in the movie? Fuck off lol.

You think you can even start a BLM protest, which didn’t even start when this movie was made, when you’ve already established what THIS government can and will do while fully controlling the media narrative? Seriously, FUCK OFF LMFAO!

HOWEVER, it’s pretty fucking entertaining. The way the protagonist does a Wesley Snipes at the end is worth the price of admission IMO.

Can’t rate this shit, though. It’s too dumb. The action and over-the-top deadpan silliness saves it. The latter will depend on whether such silliness entertains or offends you.

I saw half of the first purge and half of the second

Then I dropped out… Both failed to attract my attention. Somehow this has become one of the new mainstream franchises as opposed to Freddy Krueger (awesome) Michael Myers etc.

Come on. Surely the “Wesley Snipes doing a Blade 2” on fuckers in full Nazi outfits did entertain you even a little bit?

I was never a fan of the Halloween movies. But I fucking loved Freddy. Unfortunately, that character was so dependant on the performance of Robert Englund I doubt we’ll get any more movies of that standard. Wait, actually, even he didn’t manage to save Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. I can even rigorously defend The Dream Child. Can’t say the same for that piece of crap.

The Nightmare on Elm Street remake was horrific. But I may have been able to get past all the crap if Robert Englund was still playing the Freddy and they let him go wild with the improv.

Freddy vs Jason was awesome

Many disagree with me

I thought it was beyond awesome lol. Right from the start of the movie with the gratuitous nudity scene just for the fucking sake of it. It was like both a throwback to one of the Friday the 13th sequels and lots of slasher flicks of that era along with a message to the audience that they were prepared to dial all that shit up to 11.

Jason on fire throwing a flaming machete into a guy’s chest. Fucking kungfu shit going on in the 3rd act. Was laughing so hard from beginning to end.

It was made by Ronny Yu. The dude made a pretty good HK movie that’s a little overrated IMO called The Bride with White Hair. Won multiple major awards in Asia. Dude also made Bride of Chucky.

Fools!

Hope Freddy starts visiting them in their nightmares and they never sleep again!

Also had a song from Killswitch engage. Not my favorite band but they’re as metal as most mainstream people will go and they’ve got some cool songs

I can’t be the only one is really melodic, as is my curse. When darkness falls is also a cool songs by them

@marine77 I take it you’re a man of class that enjoys the finest televised entertainment has to offer.

Who do you prefer? Freddy, Leatherface, Jason, Chucky or Michael Myers

If you don’t know who these people are then you haven’t had a childhood! The original TCM scared the crap out of me when I was around nine or ten.

Netflix had a rental system back in the day when you could order DVD’s. I’d order one, check the mail rigorously to make sure my parents didn’t pick up something like Dario Argentos “deep red” or “TCM”, creep downstairs and watch them late at night.

My father apparently had a habit of doing the same thing when he was younger… I suppose the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

The one that got to him was the exorcist. The one that got to me was the Poughkeepsie tapes.

@dt79 I think you once asked me about fucked up movies when I mentioned watching the documentary “black metal veins”. I have a list of the worst of the worst if you’d like to hear them. But know this is some shit you can’t unwatch if you decide to go down that route.

My father has seen all the horror films, hostel, the saw films, cannibal holocaust. He told me there was no televised film he wouldn’t be able to handle. I said ''are you sure about that".

Well… Turns out there are films he can’t handle.

Leatherface was a whiny, tantrum throwing wuss until the remakes. I like Chucky but there’s not way I can find a doll intimidating lol.

I wouldn’t mind, but I’d like to make it clear I love “bad” movies, not fucked up ones. It’s just that there are some overlaps from time to time. I don’t mind watching them, though. Nothing can really affect me much after the movie. Reading the Old Testament when I was a kid already made me immune to all this lol.

“bad movies”

  • terror firmer
  • the taint
  • tromeo and Juliet
  • the toxic avenger
  • the room
  • Antropophagus
  • birdemic and sequel
  • thankskilling and sequel
  • poultryguiest: night of the chicken dead
  • hangar (this is fucking shocking, but also the shittest film ever)
  • gutterballs (also absolutely shocking, but terrible)
  • bad Milo (about a creature that crawls out of a guys bum and eats people when he gets mad)

Fucked up movies

  • murder set pieces (uncut)
  • the Poughkeepsie tapes (most mainstream of the lot, still quite disturbing)
  • August underground mordum (stay far away from this one. It’s pure filth for the sake of being shocking and gross)
  • anything by lucifer valentine, never got through a full film other than black metal veins. Saw the first film thinking it was a horror film but I think it was badly shot gore/vomit porn. By porn I mean XXX material, not torture porn like saw. I wasn’t into that so I turned it off only to see all of his films are like that
  • Melancholie der Engel (this one is an art film, but has some X rated stuff… Like 2 girls 1 cup type X rated. Bleak, nihilistic, boring and hard to watch, stay away)
  • salo
  • a Serbian film (uncut, but it’s too silly to really be taken seriously)
  • martyrs (new French extreme type film)
  • frontiers (another French extreme film)
  • where the dead go to die (terribly animated film. Would steer clear of this one too.)

You can look up the content advisory of a film on IMDb to see if you think a given film is too much or not. I didn’t watch all of these films in their entirety. Certain films like where the dead go to die, August undergrounds mordum etc I turned off less than halfway through.

Not because they were scary and/or too disturbing, but because I felt as if I was breaking some sort of moral barrier/code of conduct by watching trash that heinous.

Haha, I think I’ve watched half the ones in the “bad movies” list. I don’t really like the ones that are overtly intentionally bad like the Troma stuff.

I’ve also watched some of the “fucked up” ones. You gotta understand that even when I watch a fucked up movie, since I’ve done quite a bit of media production and even made one short “gore” film and had to do the “gore” props myself, I also think about the technical stuff and behind-the-scenes shit while watching them so they can’t affect me psychologically lol.

When you’ve constructed a decapitated hand out of paper mache and smelt the horrific smell of badly mixed corn syrup with other shit for fake blood because you followed a stupid recipe on the internet, the shock factor in these movies kinda lose their effect lol.

It’s not the gore that gets to me. Out of all films specified above, the only one that got to me was the Poughkeepsie tapes. The fact these films aren’t steeped in reality dramatically mitigates the impact… Until you get into the territory like lucifer Valentine’s films and melancholie der angel wherein a lot of the shit actually is real and you think “gross”.

The Poughkeepsie tapes still gave me the creeps when I went back to look at it a few months ago after having not seen it for years.

Haven’t seen that one. Will probably check it out. Thanks.

With regards to “gore”, it’s not just about that. What I was trying to say is that my mind shifts to thinking about stuff like logistics even when I watch really disturbing scenes of any kind.

For shit movies that aren’t meant to be bad

  • Jupiter ascending
  • I Frankenstein
  • hellboy remake
  • Gigli
  • the wicker man (remake)
  • superman IV: quest for peace
  • grown ups 2
  • Howard the duck
  • jaws the revenge

Hey, Howard the Duck was one of my favorite childhood movies! You take that back!

:joy:

Killer clowns from outer space wasn’t bad. But it was ridiculous

I just remembered there’s a franchise you need to check out

Feast
Feast 2
Feast 3

Like tremors if tremors was a hard R splatter film.

Watched them. The first one was alright. The rest were kinda dull IMO. I get that they were trying to make a couple of really gory flicks without being overly self-conscious but if you want to do that, you need to pull off something like Braindead or fail miserably for them to be really entertaining.

Have you seen freeway with Reese Witherspoon?

That’s an awesome movie. Sequel was exploitative trash

Nope. Will probably check that one out too.
