I don’t think they fully understand how much potential for parody the entire 3rd act has. I was laughing so hard at one part because I kept thinking about Pet Sematary.
The Witcher’s song is fucking stuck in my head in two langages like the most addictive Disney song ever
Ashfall (South Korea 2019)
A bigass volcano in North Korea causes an earthquake all the way down to the South. There’s going to be a 2nd one. The third will be the eruption that will devastate both countries. So the President of South Korea, obviously a closet fan of The Core like me, gets a university professor to devise a plan because he did a paper on the potential eruption 3 years prior to this and no one listened to him.
The plan is as follows:
- Send a team of Special Forces to the North.
- Break a double agent out of prison.
- Get him take them to the location where Kim stores his nukes.
- Steal the uranium from the nukes and load it into their own device.
- Drive to the volcano at the Korea/China border and detonate their device underground so the release of underground pressure will prevent the eruption.
Which, according to his calculations, will have a 3.48 percent of success. This is why no one fucking listened to him in the first place. But the president sucks at math so he gives the go ahead.
So they send a squad of complete buffoons to carry out the mission. But the double agent is actually a triple agent who makes a deal with the Chinese to deliver the nuclear device to them once it’s armed. Then the Americans send their own troops to stop them because they don’t want to fuck up the disarmament negotiations with North Korea by letting them detonate a nuke on North Korean soil.
Despite the nonsensical plot, it was pretty AWESOME because it’s a character driven movie that manages to balance drama, action and comedy with a fair amount of spectacle. The leads are excellent and the CGI actually holds up against major Hollywood productions despite a relatively low budget. 7/10
Doom Annihilation was uh fun…
That guy is a hell of an actor. I have a hunch his scenes didn’t even take that many takes.
My review is it started really good but really fizzled out. In the 2nd season, all the relationship scenes were dreadful and by the end of the second season, most everything was boring.
Just how much time did they sit in cars staring at bridges? With a good effort, they can portray how boring it is for the characters without also boring the audience.
I don’t think there will be a season 3. I don’t think their hearts are into it enough.
Gonna have to disagree. All the while, the serial killer who we’ve been following was evolving. And the guy who played Wayne Williams was phenomenal. PLUS, the third and best storyline - Brian becoming the killer, which had a huge parallel to Manson’s manipulation, has only just started to get good. The show is supposed to have 5 seasons. Season 3 hasn’t been announced yet, but season 2 premiered like 2 years after season one, so I’d say we’re in for a wait.
I binge watched Virgin River on Netflix because I think Alexa Breckenridge is a hottie, and Tim Matheson (Animal House) and Annette O’Toole are personal favorites from my twenty something years.
…turns out the Virgin River series of books are Harlequin romance novels…my man card is now missing…
I fucking loved Rise of Skywalker
Knives Out
Murder mystery with a pretty great ensemble cast. I liked it, but it was a bit predictable. Watching 007 speak with a southern drawl is weird though. I had a little chuckle every time he opened his mouth. 7/10
Jumanji 2
Took the kids to see this over Christmas break. It was ok. Danny DeVito is awesome. 6/10
Free Solo
Documentary about Alex Honnold’s attempt to free-solo (climbing alone without safety lines) El Capitan in Yosemite. It’s pretty incredible. My hands were sweating the entire time. I’d LOVE to see this in IMAX. This is a must-watch IMO.
10/10
The cinematography and explanations are great … love the setting. Fantastic doc …
Has anyone else watched The Witcher? I want to like it, but it seems like a complete mess. I’ve never played the games, but I’ve read a few of the books (which are also a mess IMO). Parts of it are really good, but others are just awful. Hopefully season 2 is better, but I’m not nearly as excited for it as I was for S1.
5/10
Watch 3/4 so far and agree … when its good its damn good when its not its meh.
Wife and I started watching it. Ceased watching due to the reason stated … it’s a damn mess
The Grudge (2020)

The technical stuff is very very impressive. The cinematography is mind-blowing. The movie is kinda… ok.
I really admire the intent to push the envelope of filmmaking by using the “one shot” gimmick, but I think it ultimately works against them here. Especially since you can easily tell there was a cut in about a minute into the movie if you’re into this kind of technical stuff. They could have just done something similar to that movie where Leonardo Di Caprio gets violated by a bear and it would have worked much better. 6/10
We watched an episode. Nope. I couldn’t follow what was going on. Too much jumbled together.
I did over the holiday break and really enjoyed it. It was like GOT with more fantasy elements, which I liked.
