With that in mind, would many of you advocate pulling heavy (above your PR) with straps to get your body used to the heavier poundages? Or gradually increasing your poundage sans straps (like I’ve been doing)?
Others have disagreed with me already about this, but since you don’t compete (do you?), I say why the hell not. Use straps occasionally, but don’t become dependent.
In fact, my grip didn’t really start improving until I started using straps more often, but added more grip work on separate days.
Just pulled an easy 495, and the lat feels fine. Not too bad for having a bout with food poisoning last week. I’m going to hit the DL hard for the next 8 weeks and hopefully I’ll hit 575-585 by that time, setting up for 600 by mid summer.

Sure, I’m in. Best in the gym currently is a 525. My first power lifting meet is Saturday, some I’m hoping to boost that number a bit.
These 600 lb threads have been here before, but they always die out. Let’s keep this one going. Anybody made any progress in the last couple weeks?
No noticeable progress yet, but I haven’t given up, failed 560 at my last contest but I got another one coming up (the tactical strength challenge being held internationally, deadlift max, weighted pullups and 70 lb kettlebell snatch for reps in 5 minutes), going for 560+ again. Wish me luck
I’m not near a 600 lb. dead yet, (current pr 425) but it’s a goal of mine. Like new2training said, I’m going to just sit back and see if I can learn something from ya’ll. Hopefully I’ll be around 600 soon.
Great thread, I’m In. I would really like to see what other people who lift over 500 are doing for their workouts to progress to 600. My current PR is 545 at 205 that was done last November raw, no straps or hitching. I have always trained in a powerlifting, low-rep style except for the past 3 months I have moved completely away from a powerlifting training style to a high-rep, supersetting, single leg, blah, blah, blah (all the stuff i have never done before).
I haven’t squatted once for 3 months and have only pulled a few times. In one week I am back to my old powerlifting style training. I am interested to see if my lifts go up after completely changing my training.
I have only deadlifted from the floor in a traditional stance. I have never tried rack pulls or other deadlifting styles. I am going to deadlift this afternoon and will later post my workout so i can have a starting point for the goal to 600.

How did it go?
I got 530, but barely missed 545. My back was fried and I tried to lean it back too much, and lost my balance at lockout and took a stutter step back.

You’ve definitely got 545 in you on another day. We have very similar form, that lockout kills me too, but you had pretty good speed. What are you doing to help with your back rounding and lockout?
A couple of my older videos, I don’t have anything recent:
525
550 miss
Most of my deadlift gains have come while doing Westside variations. I have always done a lot of singles and rarely any rep work with the DL, so right now I am doing a 10 week Ed Coan program with sets of 2 and 3.
I have always had good luck with pull throughs with regards to my lockout problems. I also do a lot of lunges and split squats, they really seem to help me get that initial drive and speed.
I’m won’t be hitting another heavy pulling session until after my competition on the 19th. I worked up to 465 for 4 singles on April 2nd. Nothing great, but I just wanted to have one more pull session from the floor.
For the next couple weeks it will be only farmers and tire flips for me.
I’m sure this is crazy of me, and probably stupidly insane, but I will jump in on this, currently i have a 355 max, but i havent done deads much in my life. The stupidly insane part is that im training for a half marathon also. Well wish me luck, i am gonna need alot of it and hard work to pull this off.

Nice work. If you hadn’t said you missed 545 I would have been surprised to see you miss, it looked like it was moving smoothly.
I hit 535 about a week ago relatively easily. I attempted 550, and probably could have gotten it, but I wasn’t in the mindset for a balls-out max, so I let it go about a half a foot off the ground. I pulled something in my groin during lifting on Friday, so I’m probably gonna have to take the next 2 weeks off from lower body work. My next pull will be at a meet in Des Moines, IA on April 26th. If all goes well, I will hit 550 while I’m there.
I pulled 375 today, still along way to go, but i have gone up 30 pounds in the last two weeks. I am beginning to think, I might have a chance at this, but it will be balls out for the next 40 weeks or so. I think it helped that i started putting a 1.5" mat under my feet for an increased ROM, but when i maxed i removed the mat, maybe just a mental thing but it worked.

If you pulled it raw, 600 at 181 right this very second would put you at #7 nationally on powerliftingwatch.com which ranks people across federations.
