Alright fellas, how’s everyone doing? I stopped deadlifting as much and started hack squats. Then I took a week off of lifting altogether. Today when I went to lift I added 20lbs to my dead for a PR of 425!

Since this last post I have lost 10-13 lbs. and haven’t been doing DL’s, instead going for pull-throughs. I have been lifting light and usually glycogen depleted.
Today I went in and pulled 455 twice! Almost there.
Nice, man. I had a scare this past week thinking I reinjured my shoulder. I’m not sure if I did or not, but I’m going for an MRI next week just in case. Anyway, last week, pulled a PR of 460 standing on a 4" box. So regular dead is probably 470 or maybe 5 or 10 more.
That sucks about the shoulder. A few hours after that pull I am thinkning about an MRI as well, for the knee. It’s not that bad, but it probably needs to be cleaned out a bit with a scope. Injuries suck!
Ant, thats an awesome goal. How much do you weigh at competitions, and what are your other numbers like?
Beebudy, amazing that you are losing a significant amount of body fat and gaining a good amount of strength. What’s the secret?
Unfortunately, deadlifting did not go to well for me tonight. Got a little overzealous and went from 455 straight to 500, which I missed. Then dropped to 485 which I missed again. I have the videos and commentary in my blog if anyone wants to check it out.

Slowly but surely.

Matt,
Hope your shoulder is ok. There is another push/pull in MA, coming up in May if you are interested, and healthy. Might be a good time to go for 500.
I think 460 off a 4" box is probably closer to 500 than you think.
I’m thinking about shooting for 550 on my second attempt at that meet, and taking it from there.

Weight = 230ish at comp. so that puts me in the 242 lbs or 110 Kg class.
Squat’s around 530 shooting for 600lbs… Bench 385-405 depending on shoulder… going for 455+

Really, now? Could you PM me the details or put em up here if anyone else is interested? I’m scheduled to leave for NYC on the 14th, but maybe it’ll work out.
Thanks buddy.

EDIT: By the way, thanks everyone for the concern with the shoulder. It’s feeling a lot better, but I’m going for an MRI monday just in case.

Matt,
I PM’ed you the info, but if anyone else is interested, go to aausports.org. The Push/Pull meet is on May 19th in Scituate, MA. I’m doing AAU since I compete RAW and haven’t seen any other federations around here that have an unequipped division.
Set up didn’t look bad. I notice you don’t take the slack out of the bar before your pull, that might help. Also might want to try the staggered grip, 500 is crazy heavy with an overhand grip.
I think you would have had 485 for sure, if you hadn’t just failed at 500. Keep chasing it, it’s not too far away!
Great thread, just found it! Last week I deadlifted for the first time in several months. Did quite alot of volume with 3 plates a side then worked my way up to a single of 190kg’s (418lbs), going in fresh I feel I could probably get 200kg.
Looks like I need to get 227.5kg’s to join the 500 club.

523.5lb deadlift at the push/pull today. Definetly had some more left in me.
Anyone else make it there yet?

congrats man, that looked way too easy…600 soon. good story about going to the wrong club, talk to you soon.
Thanks, buddy. Looking forward to seeing your 500 any day now.

yea, I was going to go for it this week, but I think I’m entering a weightlifting comp on sunday, so I’m gonna push it off until next week if that works out.
update: Empire State Games New York City Qualifers turned out to be saturday, and I lifted. Made the qualifying total for my weightclass, but missed some attempts I should have made. Hoping to make up for my lackluster performance at saturday’s competition, I went for a max dl today (not one of my brightest ideas). Anyway, failed at it again…new pr of 485 though. I’ll upload some videos of satuday’s contest and sundays attempts soon.
Btw, the bar was misloaded, so my final attempt was actually 512.5. The thing that pisses me off was that 523.5 definitely would have been possible. Oh well, I’ll just have to do it in the gym before my next meet.
