The Path to Paradise Begins in Hell

You mentioned ab work for squats…I don’t see any ab work, other than HLR. You are on the right track, heavy standing ab work for a big squat.

I am having trouble deciding what ab work i should be doing other than HLR’s.

Ab roller from knees + weight = awesome

edit: Youtube link doesn’t work. No idea why. You can see it if you go to Konstantinov’s Youtube channel.

Standing cable abs
dumbbell obliques
Planks with a plate on your back
Roller abs, I like Git’s version w/chain around shoulders
Decline abs holding DB on chest or overhead

And I hate doing abs, but at least this makes a bit more fun

Joe, my HLRs look very much like yours but the difference is that I’m proud of them! I used to be totally unable to raise straight legs at all. Keep working 'em.

Thanks guys, I’ve got to take a look at some videos it looks like.

I thought HLR worked hip muscles, not abs??

We got a contract on the house we have for sale in Huntsville. Hopefully it all goes through and we don’t have that to deal with anymore.

It’s my understanding of HLR’s that abs are worked more once hip flexion has already started meaning that from a straight hang, the hip flexors work first to start the movement and then the abs become dominant. The way around that is to tilt your hips. This keeps the tension on the abdominals.

I know MANY people (including myself) that don’t bring their legs all the way back (keep hip tilt) to 180 degrees (full hang) to keep as much tension as possible on the abdominals.

I don’t really understand what you’re saying.

38 push ups
38 chins

I really need a big pressing day today in the gym for some reason.

Last night I got told I have a baby face by someone exactly half my age.

Irony.

Good luck on the house contract!

Sending vibes for a big bench PR baby face !!

When you lower your legs, don’t fully hang at the end, stop just before, think 10 degree angle and then re-raise them. Keeps tension on abs.

Got it.

I bring my legs all the way down. And then some.

Your way would definitely be harder.

Isn’t that a good thing? I would take it as you look young still. I got carded the other day and actually felt good about it.
