Russian Peaking Program

Week 2 Day 2

Deadlift

5x135
5x185
5x225
5x275
5x315
6x4x345
1x365

Calf was cramping so I shut it down here.

Just curious here, why are you singling up after the work sets? Reason?

Please be careful after all the tonnage you move and then going into an above 90% of 1rm can wreak havoc on your CNS.(esp week after week) Esp. if the lift is slow or a grinder. Ie: Deadlifts.

Hell if I was to do singles I would go down to 70% and do speed reps like 5x1 - you can guage your confidence on the lift by your power/speed/control/form.

All russian coaches always prescribe to move the bar as fast as possible at all times on the the concentric phase to help “coach along power”.

FWIW I hope this helps.

Good training BTW.

^^^ Also, coming off Smolov and rolling right into another peaking program is brutal. Great work in here, Joe, just be careful!

The only reason I do the singles is that I fnd if don’t the increasing weight “shocks” me when I’m doing reps. I have decided I’m only going to do one from now on though.

Yeah that was where my earlier bar speed question was going. Grinders are hard on old guys. But you are moving some great weight.

Week 2 Day 3

Squats

10x185
10x225

1x350
1x370

Bench

10x135

So I’m an idiot and I’ve been using the wrong squat number. I was supposed to use 320 instead of 330 fixed it today and dominated it.

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt for doing the wrong exercise and/or wrong numbers. Just laugh and move on.

Solid work Joe. You’re an animal indeed!

So you squatted 330 but was supposed to do 320 instead? How awful. : )

how did the 370 feel after the shit ton of squatting before hand?

Surpsingly light. Had I not need to get out of the gym by then I’d have taken a long rest and tried to put up say 385-390.
