The Path to Paradise Begins in Hell

You were just a teensy bit out of your groove on the 285, otherwise you’d have blown right through that sticking point. 275 looked really solid.

Squat Test day or how much I suck.

Squats

5x135
5x185
5x225
3x275
1x315
1x350
1x395(+30 lb PR) did not hit record button on camera in my dumbassery
0x405* dumped it
1x395* tried to get a vdeo of 395 and choped it high.

Just about everything that could go wrong or that I could fuck up happened today. Underate, work stressed, had to fight to get camera set up, just a shittastic day so of course it was testing day.

To make matters worse I did not stretch or foam roll on my rest days which meant I was a lot tighter today than I thought I would be. It didn’t bother me in the least until I hit 395 but it was a big effing deal then.

Will use either 385 or 395 as new max for Intense cycle calculations. I have the two week switching cycle to decide.

0x405

1x395

Hey Joe, the bench wasn’t bad at all, yes triceps lockout work…

The squats, sorry but you seems to hold the bar a long time before squatting, just a bad day? or are you making sure you look good in the mirror? Just j/k man.

Yep, held the bar way to long. For some reason I had a bad case of heartburn and it made breathing really uncomfortable.

Joe, did you do the entire cycle with knee wraps? All I can think is yowee on the feet. That must have been really hard.

That was a long bar hold. Do you find you get light headed when you hold it that long?

Sort of, I had to use my wrapped max numbers because I didn’t have a raw max so I wrapped for the working sets but used a very, very loose wrap so that I could fully bend my knees.

I held the bar way too long. It was a combination of not being bale to breath and being uncertain about the lift. Next test I’m going to just dive bomb the hell out of it. I am 100% sure the first 395 was good though.

I am really unhappy I didn’t hit 405 because it felt okay going down despite all of the ways things went tits up today.

I’ve gotten perceptably stronger but the testing did not go quite like I had hoped.

I’d say a 30lb PR is a perceptible increase. You must be quite pleased with that.

I am really, I was just hoping to break 405 and get it out of the way. It seems like more a psychological barrier than a weight one at this point.

Awesome! 405 is very close.

catching up on your posts; looking good man

I really freaking hope so, I’ll be all sorts of unhappy if I don’t bust it after this intense phase.

THIS^ You commit to the lift and I’ll bet you nail it.

I agree, I’ve looked at my Switching and Intense phase numbers and the truth is that I should hit it easily if I am able to complete the intense phase squatting. Honestly I’m going to be pretty angry with my self if I don’t hit 415-425 after the next six weeks.

congrats on the PR! now go get that 415

Friday- Non-Smolov lifting

T-bars from floor

crap ton x not much

12" box squats

worked up to 205 and I think that will be my speed box squat numbers for the switching phase.

Smolov Switching Phase

Week 1 Day 1

Speed Pulls- Sumo

Warm ups

5x135
5x185
5x225
5x275

Working Sets

12x2x300

Smolov Jr Bench Cycle

Warm Ups

5x135
5x175

Working Sets

6x6x190

I got tired and I “think” I did seven sets instead of six. Speed pulls weren’t so speedy on last couple of sets.

You can be forgiven for getting tired at the end of that session. Just reading about it makes me tired.

How can you be tired?

This isn’t even your intense phase yet… :stuck_out_tongue:

Strangely I’m still tired.

Glad to see you around these parts.

Dude I come back after a week and you a hit a bench PR, an unplanned deadlift pr and a 30lbs squat PR!

You’re doing it right. Next time find a few minutes to stretch and role before testing those squats, you’ll hit that 405.
