The Path to Paradise Begins in Hell

So I’ve been reading on Smolov and finding it interesting, in a masochistic kind of way. Spose to be a program to help work up to a meet and blow through some PR’s by about 30lbs or so on squats. And as we know, that can translate to deads as well.
Now I’m a believer, but I think Dr. Smolov is probably six feet under by now cause that program looks like it will bring out the beast in most people.[/quote]

Have you read abut the other Smolov levels? The one I’m doing is the most common one but there are advanced Smolov routines for more advanced lifters. The most advanced routine isn’t even written down as much as it is a vague outline. If you finish it you are a Master of Sport.

And an enormous badass.

Nice work in here Joe. Glad to see you’re surviving Smolov.

Don’t know if you get these, but I laughed at the title.

Late as always but big pat on the back for all your many PR’s the last few weeks. The 7x5@315 is just madness.

Great work Joey, and congratulations! can’t wait to hear what happens Thursday

Yeah that was the worst day. The 10x3x330 the next day should have felt harder but didn’t.

I’m going to retest my bench today so hopefully I’ll get the ball rolling to big lifts on Thursday.

Beastly Joe ! Can’t wait to see how the Bench max goes, have a good spotter okay?

any tips I should know about for Ronda’s meet? You can PM me
I think Friday night we’ll practice kneewraps so we know how tight to wrap.

Joe told me you would threaten the life of my cat if I didn’t make my Max lifts :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah I can never thing of anything awesome to write in here. I’m more of a cheerleader than source of useful input so um YAY!!! PR!!!

Yumm cherleaders… errr sorry about that.

Smolov Retest Week

Bench retest

5x135
5x185
3x225
1x260
1x275(+5 lbs)
1x285* miss just off chest

6x225
4x225

Bench felt really slick and I couldn’t dig may ass into it so I felt unstable and never got set right. On reflection I wish I had tried 280 when I tried 275. Live and learn.

1x275

0x285

6x225

Nice work Joe, with regards to your bar path, how low are you touching on your chest, do you think that possibly you are losing some power on the press by going that low on your chest…maybe its the vid but it seems as if the bar is touching very low on your chest.

275 looked easy. That 285 is right there.

I’ll see if I can’t take a look at that.

I hope so. I have decided to start another smolov jr bench cycle next week when I start the Smolov switching phase.

nice work on that 275 looked like a feather

285 is so there

Agree that you will own 290 in no time. You probably would have had 285 or 290 if you did it before the 275. Triceps seem to run out of steam pretty fast on the lockout. Best to catch them fresh for 1RM. That’s why I like dips, they seem to build endurance in the Tris.

You are borderline low. I think keeping your head on the bench will cure that.
Do you try to squeeze your shoulder blades together before taking the lift off?
Great job!

Yeah I try, but try being the operative word.

The weighted dips are making a comback for tricep work after Smolov is finished.

nice bench pr.
