Joe, you are about the hardest worker I’ve yet seen. Marble legs FTW!
When I’m not particularly suited for something but I want to do it anyway I just try and keep my head down and moving forward. I usually do okay that way, but its never spectacular.
That is the soldier coming out in you… This is damn good to follow!
I was really lucky in that both in sports and in the Marines I got a lot of wisdom from men who kept repeating how important it was just to keep going.
Also it seems that D-aspartic turns me into an enormous horndog.
Smolov has not broken you if you still have a drive
are you taking it straight? who suggested it to you?
congrats on hitting all that volume with your PRs!

Yeah I take it straight. I read that Fishcer and a few other guys were using it and decided to give it a try. I personally have no doubt it boosts testosterone.

I’m not going to lie, I don’t know that I could do this if we had kids.

I had the same convo this week - a customer of mine was impressed by the my hours clocked in the gym and I reminded them that having no kids gives me a lot of personal time. I’m not saying that one choice is better than the other only to put it in perspective.

Yeah, I could do 5/3/1 with kids because I lift at lunch but now way I could get away with Smolov.
On a quick day of 5/3/1 I’m done in 45 minutes. A quick day of Sheiko is 90 minutes to 2 hours.
To be honest as much as I’m enjoying the challenge I do not see this program as a longterm option. I’m giving it the full 12 weeks and then I’ll do a proper pro/con write-up.

I had to scroll down a bit to see whether you were still surviving.
You should get your wife to pumice that for you. That sounds like a great valentine activity.
So you must be close to finished week three right? How are you feeling overall? Are you worn down? How are your joints?
This afternoon will be day 2 of week three.
So far I feel fine. That is to say I am destroyed after days 3 and 4 but I am recovering very quickly. I will say this though, not getting enough sleep or food makes recovery almost impossible until you catch up.
Next week I retest my maxes. In all honesty I’m not sure how much my maxes will have gone up. I am without a doubt significantly stronger but I’m not sure its going to translate to my 1RM.
I also was a bit carb blotted from the holidays when I started this and I’m leaning out just a bit. I don’t thinkk I’m losing weight per see but I’m looking a bit leaner and bigger according to observers.
I am cautiously optimistic that I will hit my numbes this week, assuming day 3 doesn’t crush me and after retesting I’ll do the two week switching phase which I think is going to really bore me. In a way I’m looking forward to the four week intense phase which has an odd loading pattern, at least to me.
I think a lot of people could benefit from just doing the base mesocycle.
