I have to admit that I was surprised to see you were running squat and bench cycles at the same time. I’ve only run the Smolov Jr. squat cycle by itself and added in an extra day of rest each week.

I was very tempted to try Smolov but decided against it but it inspired me to look at other programs and then, ultimately decide to stay with the 4 week Prilipin table based cycle I’m currently doing.
When I looked at the smolov calculator with my current max, it looked crazy. I’ll be keeping an eye on you. How old are you now? I wonder how much age affects the effectiveness.
Depending on how you make out, I may rethink the insanity.
I am 44. Right now I expect to have little trouble with the base mesocycle but I have no idea what the intense cycle will be like.

Smolov for squats seems hard enough but doing a JR. cycle of bench is pure insanity… I hope it works for you but if it doesn’t do count the program as bad but try it again and only do one or the other. and let your other lifts maintain where they are at while the one you focus on grows.
Oh make no mistake, if I start struggling I will ditch the Jr cycle in a heartbeat.

I did it only because I couldn’t figure out a bench routine to do while I was Smoloving.
Joe- I am always amazed by your work ethic. I have never done Smolov because I got tired just reading it!! A tip of the hat to you sir! Kill it young man!!

I’ll be doing speed deads for sure along with box jumps but I’ll need a few more things. Maybe some KB work.
Joe training is looking pretty stellar- nice work
4x9 @ 270 is pretty aggressive squattting
nice work
smolov is crazy
Joe,
I posted this in the wrong thread “Old Boi”, sorry to screw up your system.
Joe,
Smolov huh, did you lose a bet? I try not to do anything that hard unless “Lives are in the balance.” Kudos to you though for gutting it out, when you put 100 lbs on your squat you will probably forget about how hard it is and go for another round.

Its funny you mention that but if I actually finish this I’m going to try and do another cycle over the holidays this year to take advantage of the holiday food.
I’m glad you’re posting the day and the phase. Since I’ve read a bit, it gives me a good idea where you’re at. You still sound pretty chipper so it looks good from my side of the key board.

Friday night I was pretty crushed after the back to back days but I’m feeling pretty good considering. After today i will be done with half the lifting days of the base cycle so hopefully I will continue feeling good up to the switching cycle.
I think the most important thing I’ve learned so far is to not think about anything but the next day.
Really interesting program. How much time between sets?
Nice work Joe.

It varies wildly. Not all that long between the first few but on the heavy day as many as five minutes on the last few sets
Now is when it begins and you get to temper your body and your mind.
Adapt and overcome!!
Its not easy squatting this often. Keep up the great work.
Shit I thought I was squatting alot…FACK thats a lot of work
