The Path to Paradise Begins in Hell

2012 is going to be a good year for you…you’ve got great momentum going into it, that’s for sure.

For some reason, I’m not a fan of this program on paper (yes! I’ve read the e-book). But you do seem to make really convincing progress. I might actually give this program a go when I’m able to return to lifting . . . which is still quite some time.

In the meantime, I just love reading how you’re moving forward.
I’ll be the first to admit that I have bastardized the program a fair bit. I have what is in essense a RE day, after I do 2 boards, at the begining of the week and I also do 1-3 heavy singles after the money set. I think you really need to do those singles if you intended to compete.

The real benefit to 5/3/1 is that it keeps you focused easily and gives you goals to shoot for just about every session. That keeps the challenge up.

Thanks Kimba, I hope you are right. With a lot of luck I’ might come within shouting distance of a 1200 total before the year is out.

I figure 1200 isn’t a terrible total.

Looking good Devil Dog! 1200 would be a great total.

Joe I don’t know about you but I kinda like the farmers walks…10 laps is a ton, good on you!!
I like them a lot. I need to buy more eights so I can ramp up the laps a bit.

Good stuff Joe.
How are you liking the KB stuff?

More than I thought I would actually.

Its also a really easy way to get some conditioning work done in the evening even if the weather is bad.

Came in very flat despite the weekend of food and rest and didn’t perform well on my two board presses or my CBG. I think I rushed through my warm ups and wasn’t focused. Took a mintue and tried to get refocused. Got pissed off on the 225lb T-bars when the v-bar handle kept rotating on the handle so I just tossed it and did the t-bars griping the Oly bar handle. Recovered well but I can’t come in that flat tomorrow when I DL.

Now that I’m used to two boards I’m going to start doing them along the 5/3/1 protocol.

Way to start the year…another handful of PR’s…you are da man!! Kill the DL tomorrow!

I bet this time of year you dont have problems finding folks to hold the boards on the 2 board press, with all the resolutionists about. Great training, in spite of being flat.

Because this is a University gym the resolutionists aren’t here yet as the semester hasn’t restarted.

Genreally though people give me a wide berth at the gym for some reason.

This is why…

After I finished lifting I sat down to remove my knee sleeves. Then it seems I was so tired that I stripped off my shorts and pulled my sweats out of my gym bag and dressed right there infront of the rack.

I had boxer briefs on so it wasn’t NC-17, only R rated but still not my smoothest move. Really embarassing.

Remember?

They obviously do.

You might have a point there.

Really torqued I didn’t get 425 but I did just about everything wrong today so I’m just going to let it go.

10 x 320 is pretty sweet. Don’t beat yourself up, it’s a nice PR!

I’m kind of scared to hit my gym tonight - resolutioners are very big at that place this time of year.

Nice effort. You’ll get 425 in good time.

So I won’t be lifting on Feb 25. My wife wants to go to a concert and though I don’t really care about going thats what you do when your married.

Oh my gosh. I will so seriously miss you if you leave the boards, Brett. And this is the perfect example why.

Oh, Joe. No competing? Egads.
