The Oscars SUCK!
Beowolf wrote:

Why should I? I didn’t tune in to hear some dickhead that flew in on a private GS5 tell me to save the planet.

What the hell am I saying? I didn’t tune in at all. My wife had the damn TV on, and I was forced to hear that bullshit from another room.

Algore owes me. I think I am going to change the oil in my 73 superbeetle and let the old stuff drain out on the ground.

I was in another room, but when I heard the grating noise of Al Gore making a heart felt plea for everyone to go green - I thought I was going to puke.

Thats why I avoid them.

I believe that Hollywood should stick to making movies.

I mean, if you are going to get behind a movement, shouldn’t the walk match the talk?
How green is a private jet?

Did you ever take the time to think that maybe he’s actually very passionate about his cause? That he really believes he’s trying to save mankind from itself? That he finds the cause to be noble?

If he did believe it he would reduce his carbon footprint.

He could have stayed home and delivered his speech from there.

Instead he flew himself, the secret service and his entourage to the Oscars. This act alone emitted more carbon dioxide than most people will in a year.

He comes across as a hypocrite.

I cheered for Martin Scorsese. He’s a brilliant film maker and his time was long overdue. Was worth it just for that.

I think Peter O’toole was robbed, and it made me a little ill inside to see him so old, with such a good body of work behind him, and to lose…AGAIN. It should just be a crime to fuck with an old man like that. Bastards. Forrest had an inspiring speech sure, but he should’ve been the one pulling the crying game.

Celebrities are held in high esteem. Yes there are every day heroes that never get recognised for their humanity, never win an award. It’s backwards as all hell. Lawyers get paid more than teachers. Criminals sympathised with more than victims. Athletes who make billions.

Art is important. Through movies we see these stories brought to life. Those people who make documentaries, they try to show the world the atrocities that exist, some of them. Just some. Scorsese shows human struggle. He tells stories… of humankind yes. It’s not all lost, if somebody is pointing the camera into the human heart.

Helen Mirrin

It’s funny, Zap…

You know me and pics! If there is one to fit the thread, I’ll post it!

I really couldn’t find many that really showed Mirrin as sexy as she was live! It’s probably a combination of how she carries herself, and how pics often don’t do us justice.

Anyway…here’s a pic!

Great actress!

Great post, Molotov!

Who cares about John Travolta? Global warming is a real issue. 99% of the scientists on this planet and plenty of politicians from both parties [finally] agree that human behavior is greatly accelerating global warming.

When Algore is standing on the stage with the guy from Titanic telling everyone that this year’s Oscar ceremony is being dedicated to the eradication of Global warming - and they cut Vinny Barbarino nodding his head as if he agrees - then Travlota’s hypocrisy does indeed matter.

The minute you brought politicians into the argument - you lost. I could give a flying fuck about what politicians think about Global Warming especially since they are only in the profession for power and money.

This is probably an argument for the political forum, but most of the scientists that subscribe to humans beig at fault for the upswing in global temperatures are using junk science - that is they have an outcome they are looking for and skew data to achieve that end.

But seriously - what place does something like that have at a ceremony that is supposed to be rewarding those that make movies?

wonder if you would have the same starry - eyed love for them if the Oscars were dedicated to the abolishment of abortion.

Same difference in my book.

I could give a flying fuck what the cause the Oscars are dedicated to, to paraphrase you. I support abortion in SOME form but could give a shit if some entertainment awards show aligned themselves against abortion. Interesting that you’d automatically assume I’m in support of abortion though. Shows your own prejudices and that you only see things in black and white. I think you really need to take a look at the science again. The junk science is the SMALL, SMALL minority of scientists who claim that human activity hasn’t accelerated global warming. The scientific methodology of those studies are flawed if you look at them, as anyone who’s taken a Research and Methods course can plainly see. And they can’t even get them in peer-reviewed, published journals. And these scientists have even more of an agenda to show prove that global warming is not impacted by human activty. Have you even taken a look at excerpts or the various studies the majoirty of scientists studying the issue have published? Or did you just decide that it was junk science because you heard Pat Robertson say so. Your own biases and desire to believe global warming’s acceleration doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter blinds you to this.

I never assumed anything. I never said you were pro-abortion. I did, however say that this particular subject is one for the poitical forum.

Anyhow - my point escapes you. I’ll simplify it: No politics period. Global warming is nothing but a political issue.

Until someone stops China from polluting, it is nothing but lip service, and and attempt to punish the US.

But like I said - this is a political issue and should be discussed there.

I mean why fuck up Mufasa’s and Zap’s lust-fest over Ellen’s squeeze?

I’d agree that global warming has been made into a political issue. But everything is. Doesn’t mean they’re not legitimate concerns even though the politicians use them to polarize and attract voters. But you’re right that this is a debate for the political forum. Let’s let the thread’s focus go back to what it should be-hot grandma’s…assets

Awesome acting from Nicholson, Wahlberg, DiCaprio (who surprised me), Damon, Baldwin, Sheen, etc. Cool, intriguing story with lots of twists, especially towards the end. They let Jack be Jack (although a Bostonian version of Jack), which fit perfectly in the film. Even the music kicked some ass, if you remember that Irish-themed metal-type tune they played at certain times.

Very, very cool flick.
Leo has also surprised the shit out of me as well. I hated him for years after watching The Titanic over and fucking over with stupid fucking girlfriend after stupid fucking girlfriend. After The Departed and Blood Diamond, I’m convinced that he’s a for-real, no-bullshit, damn-good actor.

Mufasa,

The answer is no. 19 nominations and counting. I think his nomination this year was for “Apocolypto” which probably meant it didn’t have a snowballs chance.

2 reasons why the oscars don’t suck:

I learned on the Baba Wawa special right before the awards that Helen Mirren was in Caligula back in the early 80’s. That alone qualifies her as too sexy to play Queen Elizabeth II. We just watched the HBO film on QE I - also played by Helen Mirren -this weekend. She won an Emmy for that one - and rightfully so. In her early days, she was known for “dropping her kit” as the Brits say it…gotta find some of those old movies!!

That can’t be right. John Williams (composer) has gotten 40 nominations and 5 wins since 1967.

You haven’t seen any of the other films he’s done in the 10 years since Titanic? He’s a very talented actor, always has been. It’s unfortunate that so many people still can’t seem to get the “Leo craze” out of their minds and appreciate the work he’s done. He’s a good actor whether the media hypes him up or not.

Ya know, it’s just an honor to be nominated - yeah right!!

I was listening as they said how many times the winners had been nominated and how many they had won. There must only be 30 guys in all of Hollywood who do that - and they all get nominated at one time or another…at least they don’t get relegated to the scientific and technical awards party - one starlet and a bunch of techno nerds in tuxedos - woo hoo!!
