What did you all think of the winners? The program itself?

I was definitely more entertained this year than last, Billy Crystal plays it safe, but it was still a serviceable broadcast. Not realy surprised by any of the winners, and the folks I was really pulling for didn’t get a statue, as usual.

Here’s some advice, though.

Don’t see the “Beginners” just because Christopher Plummer won the Oscar for it. It’s tripe. Slow emo overthought and overwrought tripe with his performance being the only singular standout in an agonizing film.

Other than that, I’ll play catchup on the nominated films I haven’t yet seen.

I saw some of the show. Billy Crystal is a big old bore, IMO.

I haven’t yet seen ANY of those films EXCEPT “Midnight In Paris” which was extremely entertaining and charming. Probably one of Woody Allen’s most complete masterpieces.

Looking forward to seeing all those films in the coming months or so.

Is it bad that I’ve never heard of any of those movies?

Definitely a lot of movies I want to see. I’m sure they will re-issue some in the theaters. Some I had never heard of, maybe they aren’t out here yet.

I think some of the women needed to eat a hamburger or 2 …Curves are sexy a bag of bones in a dress is not.

I saw The Help, very good, but not great, movie. Unfortunately, it flirts with the “Magical Negro” school of film-making, but was otherwise very enjoyable.

I saw Hugo 3-D with the kids. See it, see it, see it! Gorgeous film with a very touching story line.

I saw The Help as well. It’s a really good movie, not anywhere in my particular wheelhouse but I’m glad I saw it.

Oldman was robbed. Still, at least he got his first nom and maybe he’ll get more lead roles off the back of it. We’re likely to see George Smiley again, so maybe that swayed the Academy’s decision.

It was cool to see Nat Faxon win best screen writing for “The Descendants.”

Wonder how full his inbox will be today. He’s a dude that shows up in commercials and bit parts in film and TV, had no clue he was a writer. So much so that I announced “Hey it’s the Beerfest guy!” when he went on stage.

I was shocked to find out that this was his first nomination. Seems like he should have been nominated long before now.

It was weird that Scorsese made a kids movie. How old are your kids, may I ask?

I agree.
Even in his first film, “Sid & Nancy” (1986), he was SO good it was truly hard to distinguish Oldman from Vicious in many scenes.

I only recognize one, maybe 2, movies in that list. Meh.

It was sweet what Natalie Portman said about him, considering he killed her parents and was going to kill her too. Good thing Jean Reno saved her.

I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a kids movie, although it’s certainly appropriate for them.

My kids are 7, 8, and 9 (no Irish twins, though)

He beat out Daniel Day Lewis to play Sid. Not bad for a guy who auditioned for RADA and was told he should forget about acting as he wasn’t good enough.

Lol. She probably didn’t recognize him.
