Again? I didn’t see it with these Oscars because I was switching from Law and Order, but I remember seeing him at another awards show talking about the same thing.

Does he make a point to go to all of these things to talk about the same stuff?
Uh, no. He was there because his documentary on global warning was up for an award. It won, too.

I got really annoyed at the two girls who spent 2 minutes telling a really bad joke about ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ followed by them giggling on stage while introducing the awards.

Ellen was annoying but she did have funny moments.

Forest Whitakers speech was awesome

I think it is morphing into a second chin.

But I agree with your other sentiments. Who the hell are these people that they should be elevated to the point of gods? They are the moral dregs of society compared to people truly worthy of respect.

The whole green thing was a joke. They had John Travolta on as a presenter. For crying out loud - he flew in on his own private 737. And they want to talk about dedicating the Oscars to sving the fucking environment?

All the head nodding when he spoke made me sick.

And everyone that thinks this feel-good bullshit matters should be forced to live with Brittany Spears, or the Hilton whore.
Who cares about John Travolta? Global warming is a real issue. 99% of the scientists on this planet and plenty of politicians from both parties [finally] agree that human behavior is greatly accelerating global warming. It’s something we should deal with. It obviously requires some practically, and a total change in personal and industry behavior is unrealistic, but it’s as worthwhile and important issue to work on as plenty of other issues. More important than some of the stupid things politicians of both parties are focused on. Whatever a hypocrite like John Travolta does in his personal life, this was the first year the Oscar’s preparation was sustainable and environmentally friendly. There’s no reason why the organizers shouldn’t focus on whatever cause they want. Some will agree and some will disagree. There are plenty of moral politicians in both parties. But take a look at the scandals this year. I find it hard to believe that with what’s come to light anybody wouldn’t agree that some of these preeminent politicans [and ministers and Reverands] aren’t far much more the moral dregs of society than some Hollywood pieces of trash. There actual behavior is at least as decadent, debased, and immoral. And the fact that they HOLD themselves out to be paragons of virute and turn this into campaign issues and preach their bullshit [that they don’t practice] to America makes it so much worse.

These people are just entertainers. Anybody with a lot of money and a fan following is going to try to use that to push and focus people on issues they care about. It’s natural. If people are stupid enough to give weight to their opinions without actually thinking critically about the issues just because the mouthpieces are famous, that’s their problem.

Ellen was pretty bad. I like her wry sense of humor, but her jokes just weren’t funny. No one was like Billy. I don’t know why he won’t do it anymore. Even with him though, it’s hard to take more than a half hour of the Oscars. It’s just way too long and boring.

Ellen sucked, her jokes were not funny.
The presenters sucked. Their jokes were not funny.
Inside jokes are not funny and neither are the twerps they put on stage.

Anyone else find the Oscars annoying?
The “academy” awards shows always bore me… to clean and friendly. Give me the MTV Movie Awards and the MTV Video music awards of the Oscars and Grammys ANYDAY!

The presenters, performers, and the nominees are more entertaining and have a lot more edge.

I did think that parts of Ellen’s stuff was funny… like having Spielberg take a pic of her and Eastwood saying it was for Myspace, and her handing that script to Scorsesse (however u spell it)… and the Dreamgirls thing was well performed, though i waited for Beyonce to have a wardrobe malfunction… she didnt, but looked and sounded amazing… went to bed after that.

You are correct, which is why I can’t stand award shows…or celebrities for that matter.

Well, most award shows are just boring. The Grammys are ok when the entertainments good. As for celebrities, I think they’re fine if you just take them for what they are- people [well some of them] who put on a good show.

The grammys are worse. A bunch of self-absorbed musicians trying to be witty and intellectual. It’s painful to watch the rappers get up there and try to act “smart”. Then the Dixie Chick…don’t get me started.

I just wish people wouldn’t hold them on such a high pedistal. Same with athletes.

When Algore is standing on the stage with the guy from Titanic telling everyone that this year’s Oscar ceremony is being dedicated to the eradication of Global warming - and they cut to Vinny Barbarino nodding his head as if he agrees - then Travlota’s hypocrisy does indeed matter.

The minute you brought politicians into the argument - you lost. I could give a flying fuck about what politicians think about Global Warming especially since they are only in the profession for power and money.

This is probably an argument for the political forum, but most of the scientists that subscribe to humans beig at fault for the upswing in global temperatures are using junk science - that is they have an outcome they are looking for and skew data to achieve that end.

But seriously - what place does something like that have at a ceremony that is supposed to be rewarding those that make movies?

wonder if you would have the same starry - eyed love for them if the Oscars were dedicated to the abolishment of abortion.

Same difference in my book.

As a side note, how big of a pimp is Will Smith’s kid?

Plus, Mellissa Etheridges wife Tammy Lynn Michaels is gorgeous

great titty shot on national tv

I thought he was pretty funny, for an 8 yo (?). His name is too long what’s with that?

Beautifully said! And the answer is that a movie against abortion would never even be nominated.

I agree. I hate the celebrity worship that goes on, hence why I will not watch any of these fucking awards shows.

I love movies… but not all the bullshit that comes after the credits roll.

Thats why I avoid them.

I believe that Hollywood should stick to making movies.

I mean, if you are going to get behind a movement, shouldn’t the walk match the talk?
How green is a private jet?

Did you ever take the time to think that maybe he’s actually very passionate about his cause? That he really believes he’s trying to save mankind from itself? That he finds the cause to be noble?

I watched about half an hour of it. Ellen sucked. But that wasn’t unexpected, it’s not like she’s dynamite hilarious in other media formats.
Hawkson101 wrote:

Agreed. Basically the only other good speech was given by the Director who won for that Best Live Action Short category that nobody knows anything about.

He actually took a few seconds to explain what the hell his category was, which was cool.

Being a huge movie fan, The Oscars are the only award show I watch, and I only watch to root for the movies I think deserve to win, and to see the rare instance in which a winner actually seems truly humbled by the award.

“Children of Men” not winning any cinematography-related awards was a crime, btw.

Whew…!!!

I was reassured at work today that I was FAR from being the only man who thought Helen Mirrin was hot…!

(She’s got some serious “Grand-MILF” thing going on, I tell 'ya!)

Mufasa

By the way…

Did the person with the most nominations EVER in Academy history win last night? (I think he is a Sound Editor).
