I heart your midsection. Damn. Can’t get my own legs above 90 degrees.
I’m also avoiding the pull-up bar but I do negatives…I guess having more weight to lower is good though, no? Lemons…lemonade.
Alexus: What’s so interesting about the PE teacher’s comment is that another kid could’ve taken it another way. It could’ve been confidence boosting–as in a what a great runner am I. Don’t know. I do know that BW exercises are a bitch. So hard to find that perfect strength to weight balance. I’m still trying to embrace a you’re not too heavy you’re just too weak mantra…
Kimba: HLR are the shit. Get after them!
Mim: You’re so sweet. Thanks for that comment!
Masch: That’s true–like an endurance athlete training at altitude–practice heavy, max out light sounds like a good plan. And I’m very lucky to have sisters; I have two. Both quite a bit younger than me, but we’ve gotten very close as adults. Diplomatic is a nice word. I thought of just telling my daughter the standard “always do your best” line, but “best” feels culturally loaded to me. I want her to grow up empowered to choose her life. Whatever she chooses, whether it’s marked by ambition or not, it doesn’t matter to me as long as she is happy and fulfilled.
Frenchie: Thanks. I know I got to get back on the pullup bar. Take the hit. And stop procrastinating. I’ve been training the shit of the HLR lately–so at least I have those still going for me. Epileptic baboon is funny and I’m sure you don’t look like that all.
Cal: Focusing on pullups is very good for the midsection and not just because the movement works your core. I can’t tell you the number of times last year that I put down a cookie before eating it after asking myself do you really want to have to pull that up too? The pullbar is better than the scale for accountability. I hate it for that reason.

Training Saturday:
4 mile run
DLs:
barx20
135x5
145x5
165x5x2
GMS 65x10x5
GHR bwx10x5
HLR single set of 15.
Training Today:
9 mile run. Took awhile to warm up, but I felt good by the end.
I’m excited for next week. It’s my 5-3-1 week, and I’ve got my sights set on a DL and Bench PR.
Like everyone else said, you should definetely keep up with the pull-ups, whether you decide to lose weight or not. Don’t be disappointed that you gained a couple pounds for strength, but can’t do the same amount of pull-ups.
Don’t let that hurt your ego, you have a hell of a lot to be proud of, those HLRs for one!
You’re awesome for having energy after that run. When I just walk 3 miles to the gym, I feel like death for weights.
I have no doubt that you’ll get a DL and bench PR, you PR machine.
I’m still amazed at the running before deadlifting thing you can do. Very strong work.
damn i thought your lsit video was fantastic and now we have a ripped core hlr video. bravo!!
i could watch that on repeat for hours.
=+)
oh and i LUUURRRVVEEE bowzer. he’s so hannnnthome!!!

x2. i’m tired now just thinking about it.
gonna go sit in class and watch a movie.
Have you looked into the vibrams agian lately? You can get them offline also and you measure your foot in centimeters so it ends up being just about perfect. I’ve had mine for a year and a half now and i absolutely love them and they help strengthen your ankles and feet and it just feels so much better to run in except on a treadmill it kinda feels weird, but anywho, was checkin out other woman in the 5-3-1 program (even bastardized), good luck and kick some butt!
First, thanks to everyone who voted for Bowzer. It’s still a tight race with Bruno the bulldog, but Bowzer is leading now 735 votes to Bruno’s 710.
Nikki: Thanks for your words of support and encouragment.
Deja: You make me blush. I plan to kill the hlrs this winter so I’ll make you an even better video this summer.
Kimba and Cbear: I actually really enjoy running before DLing. It puts me in a good frame of mind. I’m a plow horse of a runner with a keep breathing keep going mentality, and I think that mentality serves me well when trying to pull reps on DLs.
Haley: thanks for stopping by. Yes, I have vibrams and use them to push the prowler or sprint (on grass), but I’m not strong enough or tough enough to run miles on the road with them. And you should keep a log here. I’d like to read about your 5-3-1 training too.

Training: Bench 5-3-1
Bench
45x10
65x5
72.5x5
82.5x3
92.5x9 (failed on the 10th rep). THis is PR because I never benched 92.5. I’m presently building my bench like a house a cards. Next week I will add two pairs of wet jeans to the bar. But seriously, this is a pr because on my last 5-3-1 bench day I benched 90x9! I’m sneaking up on that 100lbs. I was really nervous today. Failing on that 10th rep was probably the best thing that could’ve happened on my bench. I learned even when fatigued I can control the weight sufficiently to survive a miss.
Then BBB bench 65x10x5. Dare I say I blasted through these? Yes, I think I will. Killed em. Fuck you BBB, Cam Newton, Farley (especially you farley), Auburn and the entire SEC. I heart the undersized, underrecruited, gutsy, hearty play of the DUCKS. That’s it.
And then I did some rows. I also did some cardio yesterday while watching the game–jumping up and down on the couch and a lot of cursing. My children were impressed. No doubt, My behavior will be used against me in the future.
Great job on the bench PR - 100lbs is getting closer and closer.
Excellent benching! Last time I checked, 92 lbs. was my 1 rep max, so you are KILLING me on this lift. Great job!
Great training in here.
I saw the vid in Kimba’s thread, how long were you a gymnast? Did you compete in college or age group?
Low and behold, you got a bench PR. Knew it ;D
You got that 100# bench in your pocket.
LMAO, you did “plyos” during the game.
wow, its been awhile since I have been in here (I have been working mostly from an ipad and I cant see anyones pics/vids most times) Awesome vids of your training, you look amazing! and such cute pics ![]()
Congrats on your benching PR…many many more to come ![]()
snort “adding wet jeans to the bar…”
Congrats on bench PR.
Solid benching. Wet jeans? Never heard that one before!
You sound like me in terms of running. I’m a plodder, but I can plod for a long time. (Which reminds me, I really have to run this weekend).
By the time you actually put 100lbs on the bar you’ll be doing it for 10 reps.lol. beasty
Thanks for the bench love everyone. I’m feeling good about it.
Hi Jack, I quit competitive gymnastics at 13 before I started high school. I’ll blame boobs and boys for my downfall, but it was really more complicated than that. Right now, I do an adult open gym kinda thing about 1x a week. It’s very humbling, but I can still do a few tricks.

Training: Ran yesterday, but not well. Skipped gymnastics tonight. I have a DL pr planned for Friday, and I couldn’t risk tearing up my hands on the bars. That, and our rotten cat got me up at 3 am. His majesty was hungry.
I just want to shake you, throw you on that bench, put 100lbs in your hands and bark at you, “Bench it already!!”
but different strokes for different folks
Congrats on the PR and as Bobbi mentionned you’ll be repping your PR with ease once you hit it.
Boobs + Boys = downfall of many civilizations.
And seriously does no one educate their cats around here? The stuff I hear people put up with, no wonder they have a bad rap. Cats and dogs need rules and boundaries. Cats hard-headed but they will get it. And his majesty would not die if not fed 3-4 hours later. Tell me you threw some water at him or something? (I would be an evil mother I know)
I’m working on a haiku for your deadlift PR on Friday!
I love cats but they need to be shut in the kitchen at bedtime! It’s nice to have a cat asleep on the bed and all, but they tend to wake up at the most inconvenient times. I remember crashing at a friend’s house and sleeping on the sofa bed in the lounge.
He has two lovely Burmese boys, so I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to leave the door open so they can come sleep on the sofa bed with me? Unfortunately, they both thought it was fantastic fun to play pounce with my feet every time I moved. I lasted about 20 minutes before kicking them out and shutting the door.
