The Open Boat

A 100-lb. raw bench. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen that. And only once.

90 for 9? Shit. Your 1 RM is higher than you think.

And yes. Pullups for pullup sake are perfectly reasonable. I got a little hung up on the abs focus.

Hey Nadia! Just catching up. Lots of great training going on in here!

Looks like you’re getting PRs on all your lifts - kudos!

Interesting re: the weighted chinups. I didn’t read that article, but I’m like you - I do pullups so I can get better at pullups - altho i still don’t find the need to weight them just yet. HAHA! And yes, i too want n8tives pullups!

That is a naughty kitty! But with a face like that she’s forgiven

And you’re girl is too cute. HAH! Saying her goodbyes…silly thing.

You’re benching is quite good. I’m quite jealous. Great work in here!

If you got 90 for 9 you have 100 easy.

Easy.

sounds like a dramatic time in your household.
Husband and I are sick also.
My take on it is better now then next week.
falalala.

Yes, she’s a machine I tell ya!
Great work Nadia, as said, you’re hitting PRs every day!

And that cat is precious. Ah, if only cats liked me, I’ll have one now.

Cal: You’re right. Grinding is good.

Kimba: Yeah I expect a lot of myself–probably too much sometimes. But, I agree triple digit benches for us in 2011 are very reasonable goals. At your bw, a 100lb bench is so close to that much coveted bw bench. Super impressive. We need to get you signed up for a 5k and a powerlifting meet year!

Snap: Thanks. Hopefully, we’ll be both be repping triple digit benches in 2011! I was initially really reluctant to weight my pullups, but I got good advice and loaded the shoulders really slowly. I started with just 5lbs and worked from 3 sets of 3 up to 5 sets of 5 before I added another 5 lbs. That progression, not including deloads takes 9 weeks. It actually takes more like 18 weeks because I only do pullups 1x a week and weighted every other. It’s worked really well for me and helped me build my BW pullups. I missed my first weighted progression ever, very recently, when I failed to get 3 sets of 4 with 30lbs. It’ll be a long time before I pull up a plate, but I intend to get there.

Thanks Masch: Yes both my kitty and my little girl are too cute for their own good.

I’m not sure where you are with your pullups–I know you have a goal for 10 before the end of the year–how are you doing with that? I really like doing weighted pullups. In some ways I find them easier because you can drop the reps and the volume. They also really set you up on your bw days–you’ll find the first few bw pullups after a weighted session absolutely effortless.

Bobbi: Your vote of confidence means a lot to me.

Frenchie: Hope you’re feeling better.

Nikki: Ha! I love being called a machine.

++++++++++++++++

Nice 6 mile run early this am. Hoping for a strong DL day later today.

Would love to have a nice run - I’ve not run since my 15K. Was hoping to go out today but it has snowed heavily again. Grrr.

There it is: an official goal for 2011 is a triple digit bench!

I’m not really interested in a powerlifting competition, but perhaps I could get talked into a 5K. Heck, I did that today.

Very ballsy scheduling a deadlift session after a run.

Ah you doubt?
She’s done it before, she’ll do it again.

And got PRs after the run… only machines can do that. Hmm-mm.

Kimba: If I’m not pushing the pace or the distance, I don’t find the running to be interfering. I’m pretty adapted to it. But, even if it is counter productive to some degree, (and I realize most people say that it is) I’m okay with that. Balancing activities comes at a price.

Nikki: You ego stroker–I love how you so easily found a way to call me a machine again. That’s going to be my new mantra. I’ll grip the bar and, in my mind, the words, I am a machine; I am a machine, will repeat over and over again as I grind out rep after rep and hit pr after pr. Yes, I think that could work!

5-3-1 DLs yesterday

135x5
145x5
165x3
180x11 (rep pr + 4). My husband is a pick it up and its all good deadlift form kinda guy, but even he told me that I was high assing them a bit much. I also hear Snappers voice in my head telling me I need to reset after each one to help with that. But, I’m going to push the reps my way until I have to reset my max again. I really want to bust through my 185x5 wall and see if I can’t work my way up to pulling 190 (and dare I say 200lbs) for reps. After that, I’ll work form. This is my brutish strength phase.

Boring but big because I’m a machine and I love a good back pump

DLS 135x10x5
GMS 55x10x5
HLR 10x5

Training today: 5 mile run

I hope it’s a melodic voice you’re hearing and not me nagging your ass.

Why am I always such a critic?

High ass DL PR 180x11

If you can pull 180 x 11 after a long run, then clearly you aren’t affected by the running. Nicely done. Run on!

I just want you to know how much I appreciate your advice. I feel like a shit for not following it because I know you are right. And I don’t want you to give up on me. I’m going to come around and focus on form, but I really need this period of boundary pushing recklessness.

No worries. There’s no giving up on anyone here!

I just fear for your back. Your DLs are essentially RDLs or what I would call stiff-legged DLs.

You obviously have the capacity to pull a lot of weight for your size.

gotta agree…they are RDLish in nature.

I bet you have killer hammies though!

From what I’ve seen in her other vids, she does.

Muah ha ha, I LOVE IT!

Not only did you get a PR, but a 4-rep PR?!?! That’s crazy.
Am I shocked? No.
But was that jaw-dropping? Definetely.

Yeah, I can easily slip into a comment how machine-like you are.

For instance, you bang out PRs like you were programmed to do so.
See how easy it is?

Ha, you pull the same way I do. All back.
