The 'New Year Crowd' Has Arrived!

For cardio[/quote]

Heheh, I love you.

I take pictures at the gym using my iPhone, which I also use for tracking my workouts. It looks like I’m just sitting there texting…but really, I am preserving your idiocy.

I’m so happy that most of the resolutioners are afraid of “mega racks” as I call them in my gym. As long as they stick to the machines and cardio equipment, we’ll be just fine.

What makes me laugh the most is watching an overweight person train another overweight person like what their doing is actually working for them lol.

So glad my gym for the most part has real hard working people old and young. When the owner actually looks like he lifts regularly it helps set the atmosphere.

We have one power rack. Last night this chica strapped the bar to the safety bars with resistance bands. She then laid on her back (on the floor)…and proceeded to do “floor pull-ups” in the power rack…

She left the bar strapped down like that for about 30 minutes. She also tied up the leg press sled for that same time period…as she alternated between the two.

Ugh.

Before I was able to do regular pull-ups, I would do the fat-man (floor) pull ups using the smith machine.

Once, I got kicked out of the smith machine cause someone wanted to do squats and had to finish them in the power rack.

Anyway, if no one was waiting to use the power rack, I don’t see a problem.

  1. I wanted to use the power rack but couldn’t.
  2. There is a pull-up assist machine.

My noob encounter last night left me in a quandry.

Adorable girl, early-mid 20’s, jet black hair, cat eye glasses, naked pin-up girl tat on her upper arm, little dinky t-shirt on.

Type of girl that you just KNOW is wearing leopard print panties. Totally channeling Diablo Cody and Betty Page which, I don’t know about you all, but I think it’s sexy as hell.

However,
She was Doing cardio with more makeup on than a geisha.

I was confused by the hotness being mixed with that ridiculous makeup and still felt out of sorts long after I left the gym.

I’m going to give her time, if she sticks it out she’ll understand that she needs to not wear the makeup.

I hope.

Pull-up assist machines suck. Fat-man pull-ups are a legitimate exercise.

Did you ask her how long she was going to be? I have never once had a problem when asking someone how long they were going to be so that they know that someone is waiting for the equipment.

Thanks for the advice Christine, but I just went about my business elsewhere.

To me, the whole “show” was a little much…what with strapping the bar down and all. To me, it made curling in the rack look like a legitimate use of the rack. Where does it end?

If she was a regular I could cut some slack, but she was new…and she had her cute little “New Year’s” printouts.

Ah well…

Two more:

  1. The classic ‘guy who stands right in front of the dumbbell rack doing curls’ so nobody else can get a dumbbell without interrupting his set.

  2. I just saw ‘mma/kickboxing guy’ stand in front of the mirror and shadow box for 20 minutes. Then he jump roped for 10 minutes and went home. To each their own and all that sh!t but – if you just spent several hundred dollars to join a gym and all you’re going to use is the mirror and a piece of rope… wtf are you doing?!

She has the right idea, but somebody needs to let her know those horrible workout pants have got to go.

I think we should be encouraging to new people, we were all there once. Having said that I want metion a incredible annoying situation about a month ago when I was working out. I work out at an La Fitness, mock me if you must. I was doing incline dumbell bench, and this guy and girl are doing laterals right next to the bench while I am trying to bench.

Now it wouldn’t have been a problem, but if any of you know La Fitness they have their benches bolted down so you can’t move them. So instead of moving a foot to the left, these tools continue to do their lateral raises. What I had to do is ask them to move, and the guy seemed to be annoyed. Mined you I was there first and all ready in the middle of my workout. Some people have no clue. Also unless you are a doctor on call, please leave the cell phone in the car.

ah, hmm, yess…i too had to wait for someone to finish their power-rack curls today…i think they flock to the rear of the gym because less people will see them in their noobness

hearing lean and lanky boys talk about going on a salt restricted diet and wearing sweat-suits to help them lose fat…always brings tears to my eyes

My friend well not really a friend has that mentality. He’s all about the ambercombie and fitch look. He used to always do bench press and curls everytime (same weight to everytime)I brought him to the gym with me.

I introduced him to squats and deads and the importance of strong back/legs. What do you know he no longer really goes to the gym with me. Some just aren’t cut out for the “real” work it takes to see real changes in your physique.

On Monday I was squatting and the rack next to me was occupied by a trainer and trainee. The trainer was interested in what I was doing and was asking if I did PL. I said yes and the guy spent most of the time watching me and barely paying any attention to the guy he was training who he had doing very rounded back deadlifts with 135. I felt sorry for the boy because that’s the reason why people say deadlifts are bad for your back. I was going to offer to demonstrate but decided to mind my own business.

I saw one guy doing rounded back squats with 135 on the bar. I was going to use the rack after him, so I figured I’d give him some advice. I told him that he was leaning forward and bending his back too much, and he responds with: “It’s too heavy to use proper form anyway”

That reponse made my day.

Probably tomorrow too.

At least he’s putting up the big numbers though.

Valentines Day Hypothesis:
Before you know it, Valentines day will be here. These people will have been dating with their new found confidence for several weeks now. Valentines day, for many implied reasons, will bring a sense of security to their new relationships. By this time, no longer will their relationships be based upon their slightly less fat appearances…No longer will they need to clog up our gyms.

Submission of Corollary to Valentine’s Day Hypothesis:

With new found confidence and security, the approximately 6 weeks from the New Year and the food reward earned, the Resolutioners will gorge on Valentine’s Day chocolates and take the first step in putting back on the 5 lbs they lost, plus a little more by the end of the year.

Well Done.

thats the majority of college kids at the gym. out of all the people i live with the only ones that have big gains seem to be the ones who incorporate legs with their workouts as well.

This evening when Court and I were on a field trip checking out a new gym, we had a boy with gloves and everything come over when we were benching to lend his advice about how we shouldn’t bench with arched backs, it’s bad for us and will hurt our backs. Oh rlly? Thanks.
