The 'New Year Crowd' Has Arrived!

Are you sure you weren’t doing too much weight to use proper form?

If you mean me, you could be right. Now I feel like I over reacted when I strangled him with my wraps. I think I have anger issues.

I hope you didn’t just chuck him in the dumpster…would be a shame for all that protein to go to waste.

My gym has stayed surprisingly at the same level of activity going into the new year.

I expect tomorrow night and the weekend to be much worse, but my gym is never super busy. I think I only waited a few minutes to get on the squat rack…and the guy coming off it was was doing squats too!

LOL

We were all noobs once. If you see some of these people still there around april give them a pat on the back.

Our newbies are mostly more cute than irritating so far. On Monday there was a big group of high school kids who had all just signed up. They were polite, and it was nice to see energetic people excited about working out even if they were a little lost.

I’m just glad the gym’s making money. I like my gym and I’d like for it to stay open and hopefully improve. If we get the occasional douche, I can deal with that.

my gym was packed tonight! The owner sure looked happy.

The normal stacks of plates were a mess. No order drives me crazy.

I did start smiling when I noticed new people finishing a set and immediately proceeding to leaf through a copy of flex magazine or a workout they printed out of the internet.

Nah, he knew the risks of going up to someone in the gym. It’s a well known fact that if you talk to people, you run the risk of be strangled.

I can mostly deal with the overcrowding since I don’t use any machines, save for my pressdowns and leg extensions.

But…I felt some serious rage watching a group of tools bouncing the swiss ball like a basketball the other night.

I dont really have anything to contribute. Just love this guys avatar!!

You would think he’d know better. Truthfully, I’m pretty sure he was manufacturing any excuse he could to come over and hopefully leave with Court. Sadly, after he left, we watched him do crunches with a mouth guard in.

I don’t know how to react to that. I thought it was bad when people were on the elliptical trainer with weight lifting belts. Maybe he was worried that instead of strangling him, you were going to punch him?

I just joined Bally Total Fitness yesterday. I was planning on only trying the 2 week trial and have been touring different gyms in that fashion. But they roped me in for a 3 year contract! I feel like I got suckered, but it real was the best gym I’ve seen so far (and the scenary was amazing), but its also an extra 10 miles out of my way. Oh well I guess I’ll make the best of it.

I was also wondering why there were so many people there last night, now I know why…

First off, Ouroboro, that’s disgusting. I’m pretty sure if he was well-balanced and could stay still long enough I could squat him to warm up. I like a bit more muscle/meat on a guy.

Chimera… O was thinking of punching him in the balls. I would have thought to dropkick him in the teeth, so maybe the mouthguard wasn’t such a bad idea. However I still don’t understand the need for a mouthguard and weightlifting gloves to do crunches, but maybe that’s just me…

Noob story Day 2.

Guy in the power rack with a bar loaded with 2 10lb weights. Starts doing deadlifts from the pins in a down 2-3-4 up 2-3-4 count. To his credit he kept a nice straight back. I know when you lift a Q-tip it is not that hard but it gave me a chuckle.

Vet story on Newb Day

Guy I have seen around for quite some time is doing curls in front of the dumb bell rack. He walks down the rack decending in weight as he hits failure. Around to 10lb mark I come over from deadlifting to do some standing DB presses with the weights beneath where he is standing. I am a little reved up but also pissed off because I am an angry person. I walk up next to him and wait. he turns his head and says - WHAT? - I pull my headphones and and politely tell him - You are in the way.

Maybe it was how I said it but he took a few sheepish steps back and stayed away from doing his sets in front of the dumb bell rack. Maybe he learned something.

Two cute little Asian girls are in the cage. They load the bar with 15/side, and then try to get under it to squat. It was too high, so they start fiddling with the hooks to try to figure out how to move them.

They didn’t realize you need to take the bar off the hooks before you move em. I went over and helped them out.

Even though they only did a set each of 1/4 squats, I will do whatever I can to encourage the proper use of the cage.

I am starting to agree with the DOMS theory stated earlier in the thread. There seems to be a big difference in the amount of people that were there yesterday versus monday. It was very quiet.

I will have to see what happens friday to further test this theory. Other than that I have no noob stories. I did get a few stares while doing pulldowns and bent over bb rows though…don’t know if it was the weight or the strange “strap thingies” hanging from my wrists

That’s what I am talking about… Not just the proper use of the cage, but actually doing squats properly. Who knows, you may have encouraged them to stay with it instead of becoming discouraged so quickly. Nice job!!

Similar story but I’m confident this dude was a pure noob.

He was standing in front of the dumb bell rack doing tricep extensions with a 30, right in front of the empty 75 slots and rockin’ his tunes. I had the 75’s for seated shoulder press. Wasn’t a big deal until I went to re-rack them and he kept standing there, grinding out his set.

I calmly stood there still holding the dumbs until he finished and then I looked him in the eye in the mirror and mouthed “move.”

“AWWW SORRY DUDE!” (tunes were loud)

And he stepped back.

Pretty sure he learned, we’ll see.
